Rock Returns: SNLxNH; WW; and Strawberry Haze

Hiya folks, been a while til i posted a log, this will be a combo-log.

The new grow:
Sour Northern Lights x Nevilles Haze
4 lil girls in week 6,
1 in week 8
and 2 White Widows in week 6.

The 2 on the right are the WW
Q is the older SNLxNH

I will also highlight some Arjans Strawberry Haze that are almost done.

a peek in the flower room.
these girls have suffered a variety of issues.
on hindsight, there were a couple distinct problems, which have been or are being resolved.
1- heat and ventilation. ventilation was not optimized and temps were regularly in the 80's for weeks.
2- nutes/soil. the soil used is "recycled" basically, some new but much old soil has been used. It is depleated of all nutes, and this was overlooked until a few weeks ago. once a full nute regimine was re-established, they responded very well.

all these issues slowed growth to a crawl over the past couple months, but thats all changing for the better.
Addidtionally, the clones are small, almost bonzai, but flowering. they will go another 3 weeks or so.

on to the current pix

the large one is ASH1, currently in week 21. and geting the axe this weekend.

the 3 smaller ones next to ASH1 are the clones of ASH1.

the other small one is a split clone from Galina. (blue russian)

all are in week 11, and likely looking at about another 3 wks.

they will have very small yeild, but that is due to malnutrition in veg.

Hey Whiskey, thanks and welcome. this one should be a 'fun'-log.
some stuff finishing out, other new stuff starting, which i hope will be fun and productive.

I think I may have finally made enough mistakes over the past year+ that I might be able to replicate the outstanding results of 2 grows ago,,,or even better;)

Ive heard it said, and it may be true,,,

"an expert is someone who has already made all the possible mistakes in a given field"

starting week 8 for all but Q which is entering week 10.

W, (one of the widows) is much bigger than the rest and will likely go to flower room next weekend.
My goal for this grow is monsters, so, i'm veggin a lil longer than recomended.

Full battery of FF nutes being used with their feed schedule, strength reduced, and used every 2 days. also using LL at the rate of 1 teaspoon to 1 cup water. my drainage is extreme.

that THING as you so accurately described is what became of my 1st ASH,,,,yeah, the one that started,,,,back in,,,,MARCH!:wtf:

several issues plauged that poor girl thru the grow.
1-heat
2-lack of vent
3-lack of nutes in veg and early flwr
4-bleaching of a majority of leaves from LL used near full strength in veg

I am now convinced my soil was N depleated, due to recycling the old soil into my pile and not adding/replenishing enough new soil. Had I realized this, I woulda given more N nutes in veg, which I now do.
I am also now disposing of my 'used' soil.

the buds are weird
stringy, loose, light and airy.
but, very crystally and do the job:jointsmile:

im disapointed with the fragrance, not nearly as strawberry as when growing.:(

actual dry weigth around 30-40+/-, not too awful considering she almost didnt survive. i even almost considered culling her out about 1/2 way thru the grow.
I now know i was more to blame than she.
this seems typical of many male-female relationships:wtf:

i've been having trouble with my internet and loading pix.
i will update when that is resolved.:thumbsup:

I have had plants befor that grew like the 1 U just harvested.

see! the more a person grows there herb the more they learn about growing and the better there weeds starts turning out.

thats how it was for me. and each time I grew the herb I learnd a little more about what to do and not do. and I am on my 36-40th grow over the past 10 years and am still learning new growing tips all the time.
now my first time outdoor plants R looking dank as hell.:D

couple things "overlooked" last disaster grow.

1-added more, new fresh soil to my "batch"

2-following the complete FoxFarms feeding dosage chart, using EVERYTHING Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, Big Bloom, Open Sesame, Beastie Bloom, and will use Cha-Ching at the end., starting from Veg to the end, BUT only 50-75% strength,,,BUT watering/feeding every 2 days.
*one recent observation: i recently cut back to feeding every other watering, instead of every watering, and they are a lil smaller. I am resuming low dosage every watering immediately.
I was controlling the water/feed PH, but am trying to see if i really need to as much.( plus i'm out of the "Ph UP":( )

3-every last bit of overflow is drained off each watering. There is no "puddles" for them to sit in. I used the tubes from the hydro and got more lil tubs and made a drainage system to do it.

4-summer is over. temp has not exceeded 78 during the day:thumbsup: and i'm prepping for improving temp control.

hey rock, nice work in there. you said something about them sitting in puddles. Ive noticed a good indication of a strong root base is the water in the tray being pulled back in to the roots of a period of 10 to 20 min. if the trays dont dry in that period, then yeah, definitely pull out the water.

Wanda (white widow), back left corner is doing great.
she's in week 5, after 8 of veg. and seems to be stopping vertical growth without a screen,,,at approx 3 ft, with 4 strong top arms, that i hope become fat colas.
all 7 have shown hairs this week,,, so the name game begins.

ok, one last addition to the setup.
its obvious a screen will be nessessary for the SNLxNH

found this cool plastic fencing, thin, but strong, 1 inch holes, and i can customize with a scissor.:thumbsup:

i measured-
the space is officially 41x48 with approx 36 inch screen ceiling.

i was messing w the cam settings to compensate for the new light.
some colors are a lil psychedelic, its just the camera, plants are a beautiful deep green.

the black pots are Wanda clones (W1,W2,W3), cut 5 weeks ago, tipped about a week ago.

the 5 cups are various SNLxNH cuts (Q1,Q2,U1,T1,T2) taken 2 wks ago (there were 6 originally. U2 didnt make it).

in the dome is V-1 (ww) and S-1 (snlxnh) taken today (they were low, had no flwr yet and woulda been a waste on the plant, plus i couldnt resist it):wtf:

this now sets me to move up to 10, fully prepped girls for the next round in 6-8 wks.


one note-
The results of Wanda and her clones make me want to Mother one of these clones and maybe Hermie one as well. This is an amazingly hearty plant.

I remember Rock starting the hydro journey.....at exactly the same time he got a new job and his time was extremely scarce so he really had to work to keep the hydro up......not to mention he was new to it at the time.

Some folks schedule just work better for soil. Rock worked VERY hard on his hydro project but just didn't have all the tools he needed.....mainly extra time on his hands to learn it because if I recall correctly he was working SIX days a week at the new job as well as trying to learn hydro growing.

His soil stuff looks so good these days that I'm afraid to send him off track.....he seems to have this type of growing down very well. Props for that!! :thumbsup:

Be careful about giving him ideas d4.....sometimes you get some weird reactions from him and he goes off on these tangents and becomes hard to control. :D

but, yeah, very true about the schedule conflict.
the soil-autopilot method works much better for me. sometimes I dont have time to check in for 2 or 3 days. with hydro, that would be disasterous

someday, perhaps I will revisit hydro, I kept everything, so, nothing to buy, just set it all up again.;)

ironically, the current setup is kinda reverse-hydro based.
using the tubing on the driptrays to drain all excess water out, immediately into a collecting tub.

Weedy, youre totally on key there.

main reason is that not all of them are reachin for the sky.

both the widows are stopped/ing just below the full screen.

and only 3 of the SNL's where reachin thru it. a Portascrog woulda been ideal, given this type of variance in the growth patterns.
also keep in mind that these didnt react equally from the FIMM/tipping either, which is another reason they have varied heights.

it might be time to revisit the design on the portascrog for the future.

also, i think this cool plastic fencing would work VERY well in a portascrog design.

the overall screen is approx 36 inch above the soil level of the 3 gal pots.

Roxy has the thickest stalk, has refused LST, and has refused to be caged. altho a triple mesh was put in her way, she grew thru an opening of less than 1/2 inch!:wtf:

Vanessa had a growth spurt the other day and required immediate LST in order to prevent her going thru the screen.

Samantha and Ursylla seem to be adjusted to their restraints.

I'm using the full line of Fox Farms nutes for dirty organic peeps like myself.

only thing im not using is the Bush Dr (salt rinse)
i keep forgetting it, DOH!

I am following their dosage combination, but at a lesser strength(75%+/-) AND at every watering (each 2-3 days)

oh boy.
well, now almost all are to or thru the screen.
more emergency LST. and raised the light about 4 inches.
got these cool white pipe cleaners at the craft store. very handy!
reached under and bent a few SNLxNH tops over so the screen can do its job.
in doing so, got this incredibly sweet fragrance on my fingers, all i can say is WOW!:D

wanda is in her 10th and final week, switched her to water only until the end.
mostly cloudy trichs when checked the other day.

the others are wks 7 and 8.

plannin for the chopdown next weekend. 1 week w no nutes, just water. altho, shouldnt make a big diff, cause foxfarms nutes are completely organic, but, 1 week of water might help encourage a cleansing, moving to drying and curing,,,, altho, i doubt ill let it cure much as im so anxious to smoke it and i know there is more coming next batch and that one i can let cure more.

5/16in.x 4ft. dowels (from any hardware or crafts store)
1x2 pieces, layin around
plastic fencing i am so wild about these days. this stuff is EZ to work with.:thumbsup:
twistys. i use white pipe cleaners
screws to hold halo together and to brace to the pot.

the 1x2's make the halo and the 2 connection braces to your pot.
holes drilled thru the 1x2 allow 4 legs for added stability.
the addidtional feature here is the legs can also be adjusted higher if your plant demands more height.

finished dimensions are 15x15 wide and 3-4 ft of available vertical space.

i chose 15x15 because my space is 4x4ft.
this will allow for a block of 9 plants all in portascrog.

put next to Wanda, she woulda just over-filled it almost perfectly.

Just more of a body stone......the haze is what makes it imo. We use a regular kid's microscope these days and it works great!! I always had trouble with loupes and the RadioShack one.......need more light for these old eyes.

i swear, i just kinda got lucky.
im sure using the full line up of foxfarms nutes helped greatly.
the upgrade to 400 hps had to also be a contributing factor.
