Hello, first time potential grower here...

I have a closet space in my bedroom that I am considering using for a single plant. The problem is that the closet is not very deep at all... 11" D 40" W 7' tall (very tall!). Another problem is the fact that there is no ventilation whatsoever... I can put a small personal fan in there but there is no ventilation to the outside. Also, there is no power outlet inside the closet, but I believe I could run a cable to the outside and still have the closet light sealed.

I am looking to do a small, personal grow for my own use.. low budget, hopefully yield 2 oz's.

My rough plan after germinating is to use a 3 gallon pot (soil) and use a 400W HPS attached to a chain. The closet is painted white but I am considering using mylar. Again, I haven't even decided if the space is good enough so this is all just my thoughts.

That is a crazy closet space!! If using one plant, I do not see a problem. BUT That also depends on the strain you will be using. Though the HPS does raise up the temp and that is something to be concerned about (fire and a wilting/stressed out lady).

I have been nervous with heat and such so I started growing using CFLs (energy saving floros) with a lot of help from reading over these boards you could pull off a decent CFL grow with less money powering the HPS and with LST (low stress training) yield a decent amount.

So I think. Unless you bought the HPS already.

I would just still worry about vent for heat and smell. :hippy:

I'll subscribe and see what comes of it !

So I've decided to definitely go with planting 2 AK47's and hoping that one will be female. I am going to purchase 4 42W CFL's from home depot and look for some kind of reflector and housing for them. Are nutrients high on the list of things to purchase? I know they can run pretty expensive.. are there "good enough" cheap alternatives?

My plan is not to have the craziest grow but something basic, as it is my first time.

Thanks!

depending on how you are starting out with the plants nutes is something to start looking into (N & P are what you will need the most of now (I have just used some tomato plant food because of the high amount of n and p) - I would also look into some root stimulator for when you re-pot and first staring off. they have a good grow cab plans on the cheap of two rubbermaids put on top of one another here that can work for your space- http://boards.cannabis.com/growroom-setup/80747-how-rubbermaid-tub-growbox.html

also a killer carbon (or kitty litter) air scrubber to get away the stink if it is an issue : http://boards.cannabis.com/growroom-setup/90173-how-carbon-filter.html

I get all my stuff at HD or lowes. It isn't the best place but it is a good money saver. Try not to get any soil with the nutes in it already. I have heard good and bad with MG organic, but it hasn't killed any I had. Also a PH meter to check soil.

AK-47 will be a great home grown smoke in no time !:thumbsup:

You need ventilation or your grow will fail. There's no way around that.

Well, I could just open the closet door while I'm there. I used the Vornado (http://www.vornado.com/products/circulators/features/630b.htm)fan during the summer months and found it to be extremely powerful, so I suspect it'll be enough CFMs to keep 1 plant cool.

Thanks for the tip about the rubbermaid. Will look into that.
