View Full Version : Douches and Idiots: AKA Why is it "cool" to be an idiot?
rebgirl420

This is sort of a rant that I had to get off my chest.
It seems to me the world is full of douches and idiots. Why do people (particulalry younger people) think it's funny and cool to be uninformed and uneducated?
I love college, it's going well for me but I have stayed to myself. The reason why is because 99% of the population are uninformed hipsters. I can not stand this. All they want to do is get drunk, party, hook up and act like hoolagans and thugs.
Example: So I'm in my 4th period class and I'm having a convo about politics to a classmate and I go, "Yeah I heard it on the news" and suddenly this girl (who is part of a gangsta group apparently) goes, "Who watches the news? I don't watch the news!" (as if she's the fucking moral compass for the whole school) and everyone cracks up. This whole class is comprised of losers and D average at best students.
WHY IS BEING UNIFORMED FUNNY? And it's not just here its everywhere. Everyone thinks it's funnier than hell to not know a damn thing about politics or even basic news.
DOUCHES and IDIOTS. The whole world is full of douches and idiots. THESE people are the future, if I were you I would stock up on canned goods.

Well, let me clear myself up then. "A large portion of the world seems to be douches and idiots".
And I didn't even mention what news source it was.

yeah i know what you mean, at the school i use to go to, people were exactly like that. They didn't care about what was going on in the world. All they cared about was rap music, clothes, and cars. The majority of the campus was black (im not trying to be racist or anything like that, this is just how it was) and everyone there dressed the same with really baggy clothes and those fucking tall-t's or whatever they're called. They all drove the same type of car which was crown vics on 24s with the most god awful paint jobs, and all they talked about was partying and rap music. No one there cared about anything going on in the world. you could barely understand what people were saying because it was all ebonics/jive talk/whatever you want to call it and it seemed like to be cool, you had to talk like you were ignorant and uneducated. On the other hand, I've been taking night classes at a new community college and everyone there keeps up with the news and are all very educated. It might be because its night classes so the majority of the people there are older than 21, but everyone in my classes seem very well informed and we always have some great debates, its really cool.

Exactly cygnustaxt.
It's not everyone, that political club I'm in has informed people in it. So it's not everyone but I think the number of uninformed people seems to be getting bigger and bigger.
Oh and billion, theres no use confronting her. That would only cause unneeded issues and problems.

in EVERY SINGLE class that i have been into, people are just waiting for the time to be up and rush out. they are texting all the time, etc...
and 10 mins b4 time is over u hear every1 in the back, packing their shit up getting ready to get the f out...
it kinda makes me feel far less than that 25% who do go for higher education actual "want to" do it...
now go figure why u got such an answer! our generation is too spoiled, wants nothing but fun... no intellectuality, no knowledge, no responsibility, no involvement... makes me sad and mad but i can care less as long as i can pull my own ass up the ladder, after all everyone should do their own best and it wont go unrewarded while others will suffer from lack of that personal effort
once these people hit their 30s and actually have to work their ass off to make enough money to make ends meet, i see they wanna go back to school. in fact most of the people in my classes who seem to listen carefully and be involved and work hard for best achievements are older generation who are certainly not fresh off the boat (high school).

Bling is the shit! :D:D people just wanna bling blang when they dont have the situation to do so... Bling is really cool if u got your life together and are making your money and have reached your goals...
i mean people with crappy jobs and low pays wanna have what celebrities have, failing to realize they must be educated and informed people in this age to be able to actually and easily have that bling bling!
in fact Bling motivates the hell out of me:D to be informed and in the know and educate myself, so i can make the most out of my life, intellectually and financially
Bling-bling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bling-bling)
Bling bling celebrities got what it takes to bling and they just sing about it, its people who need to decide how things go... many singers sing about their hardcore criminal background and shooting and killing people as well, should people run around and follow their path? that speaks to people's judgment
Yeah I suppose.

I think Chris Rock summed up that whole kind of attitude the best in one of his standups. To paraphrase....
"I love black people, I AM a black person, but I haaaaaate s!"
And yes, there is a difference between black people and "s". I'm sure you can guess which one is the negative stereotype that seems to get flaunted thanks to our friends in the Rap industry.

I HATE that shit as well, I understand that kids are human beings, but the whole reason that they have parents is cause someone needs to tell them to shut the hell up once in a while.
don't ask your kids to shut up, tell them to shut up.

I think parents don't discipline their children anymore is because they want to be their kids friend instead of the parent. They don't want to be seen as the bad guy.
And then you end up with Skippy McGee Jr. who doesn't have his priorities right.

exactly. Bernie Mac said something like: parents are too busy trying to be 'hip' and 'cool' that they forget to be parents. you're not there to be the kid's friend (that sounds kinda harsh, but I agree), you're there to set them straight.

Bernie Mac was a hell of a man too.
Growing up my Dad (R.I.P) stressed education and grades. My parents read to me ever since I was out of the womb. We played educational games together and when I was an early teenager my Dad explained how politics and government worked.
And when I was an older teen THEN my parents (particularly my Dad) became my good friends and began to toke with me. My father and I, every morning (early news) and after dinner time (later news) would smoke a bowl together and laugh and tell stories and watch the news and just talk about life and politics.
And THAT is what I did with my Dad the last morning I seen him. We smoked and watched the news and bitched about Hillary Clinton haha.

Im sure he is rewarded plentifully for his parenting. raising one child in a good manner to me equals to raising a whole generation in that way cuz that child will probably be a parent one day or at least that child can have some kind of impact on society as littles as just telling the story to other which can be inspiring for those with open receptors! (well i believe in rewards/punishment after life but not necessarily what u hear as heaven or hell, im sure there is some system after this life tho)

I stocked up on canned goods!
I stay away from little brats. Parents can't discipline them, cause if they send them to their bedroom with HD TV, a phone, Ipod and X-box, they immediately get on that phone and call 911 to report ABUSE! Then CPS is involved and what a mess. That is what the problem is:
Spoiled little brats! And the system designed to protect them. The adults need it now. It was only in the late '80's our society recognized "elder abuse!"
I am waiting for the title for abusing the rest of the people will be!
I took a mixture of day and evening classes. The harder the class, the more wierdo's that flunk out! Just give it a little more time rebgirl. In the meantime, sharpen the shovel! It can be used for many things!
I read about your Dad and I can see why you are as mature as you are and no-one could guess your age! You have cool parents and your Dad, especially. I think of him often and hope I go while 'getting' my boat out of the water! You are a special person because of your parents.
The children you go to college with are only special to their parents, when they can get them out of their hair, even if it is only to a college to babysit them.
We partied a lot in college, but it was not the agenda of the day. The guys were there to get an education to avoid Viet Nam. If we had a draft, you'd see a different type of student. Men that just returned from war and boys avoiding military with the party of college! I just don't understand why it has gotten out of hand!
Oh well, got my shovel sitting outside! Just in case! :D pr

I hear ya. Most people are too concerned about what the hottest celebrities are doing to give a damn about what actually matters. So instead of going out and learning, they drop all their money on the current fad to hope they appeal to people. Just makes it easier for me to pick out the ones I probably want nothing to do with.
Some people have the capacity to realize the stupidity of their ways, so I don't just cast them aside right away. Although, I feel sorry for the ones that will never figure it out.

I definitely agree with your sentiment but sometimes people do make lighthearted comments that get misunderstood and/or written off as stupidity. ;)
You'll drive yourself nuts if you let that sort of crap truly bother you. There are a lot of idiots and you can't do anything about it, but you can choose to ignore them and accept that not everyone thinks the same way you do, and just that alone doesn't always make them an idiot.

The only advice I can give you about college is read about Taoism, (Tao te Ching) and express yourself in a right-minded fashion. Don't give them the prestige they want so badly, but don't assert your own authority over them.
Besides, I think you might enjoy putting the television on mute.
The people around you care more than the sharks on television.

Hi Reb,
I had exactly the same situation a few years back I went back to college part time as a mature(ish) student to do a web design course and with a couple of exceptions the class was made up of idiots and time wasters.
Here in the UK you can leave school with no qualifications at 16 years old and our wonderful government then pays you a grant to go to college, the result being all the numskulls and arse holes who have spent there whole school life arseing about then go to college and do the exact same thing thereby messing it up for those who genuinely want to learn.
I know you are doing a dental hygiene course, does the course require any qualifications to get on it or is it like the UK where you can just waltz in straight from school ?
Cheers

She sounds like an alpha female type who loves attention by demeaning people, she sounds ignorant and unintelligent, forget these people, who are they? Who cares? I certainly don't and neither should you. The news and politics are awesome, if she said she doesn't watch the news, she doesn't have to but that's not even funny, the people who laughed are just sucking up to this girl. The only humour comes from the fact she thinks she's being clever by unintentionally revealing her stupidity.

I lay the blame on the parents for not taking responsibility and raising their children, and not expecting the schools to do it for them. It has taken a couple of years for me to get my own kids to watch and pay attention to the news onna TV, and in the paper. Both of mine are in college, one is a freshman, the other is doing her masters.
Yes there a lot of uninformed and uneducated in college... and a lot of them that are functionally illiterate too. I see this first hand as I do 5 - 7 semester hours a year in continuing education to keep my licenses, skills, and knowledge base current. The kids in the class call me "old man" or "asshole" because I make them *think*.
BTW... the pollitical issues are only a very small part of the problem. I figure that most of it is that the kids today don't know what it is to work, and expect everything to be handed to them. They don't understand that when they graduate, they are not gonna be the senior vice prez of AT&T or Micro$oft. When things are given to kids without them having to work for them, they have no appreciation or respect for it. Those of you who are parents with grown children know exactly what I am talking about.
Personally, I like the way they do it in Israel...when you graduate from high school (regardless of gender), your required to do 2 years military service *before* continuing on to college. In the military, you will learn what it is to work, learn skills, and to be a responsible adult. That sheds a whole new light on higher education and employment.
I dunno... I guess I am just rambling again....

I agree with rebgirl on that, I personally have several friends that are 'dumb as a stump' when it comes to serious issues, and they DO think it's funny that they are ignorant of the facts ... it's like "if I ignore the facts, it will all just go away" ... of course, most all of my friends (here in La-La Land) are screaming liberals (very uninformed) ...

It's funny going there because i see a LOT of ppl who barely graduated and are trying to coast through college like they did in highschool.
When you see them packing their shit up and ignoring the professor, just smile and know that you're going to be more prepared for midterms/finals than they are :)
The growing stupidity of the world DOES trouble me. In no way shape or form do I believe that these people aren't equal to the intellectuals, but I do think that nature/society has a way of sorting them out, "Only the strong survive" in essence

I have to put blame on the parents that take care of every life problem that these kids run into. I think the term is ( helecopter mom ) If parents are always there helping there kids out even for the smaller things to even the point of writing their resume and sending out for them, they are never going to learn for themselves. If that is the attitude at your college, you need a more professional college. I never hear anything of the sort at my Uni. It's quite serious on campus, although admittedly there are annual riots surrounding certain sports rivalries. You just gotta find more smart people to hang out with, and ignore the fools, who will only bring you down. If you can't find any, look elsewhere. They DO exist. They just tend to be quieter than the wannabe gangster types, who are like peacocks- nice plumage, but a VERY small brain when compared to overall body mass.

But I don't think it's my college thats the problem so much. It's only in one out of four of my classes. Everywhere else seems to be okay. The politics club I'm in now is providing me with a lot of fun and educational experiences. And the people are very nice. Kinda more "pure" than I am, when they found out my mission of showing the Senators and politicians we meet during the rallies and such info on Medical marijuana and then give them my 2 cents about pot laws they looked at me like I was insane.

Because everyones stupid and uninformed. You smoke weed so you pay more attention to things around you. They dont know how else to act, to be happy and to have any confedince.

welcome to my generation.
We will destroy the world because of our simple attitude if your not like me i don't like you. as far as i can tell most of these "fake gangsters" only befriend those who they are like and now they are the majority in the schools and soon will be the majority of the workforce. Just sit quitely in the corner with the people you know and trust ignore them all and don't turn your back on them.
In my Opinion its similair to Racism but Discriminating by current fad. hence everyone trying to become one of these "gangsta's" so they have friends.
i am interested to see if anyone agress with the bold statement though or am i crazy?

one of the greatest challenges for me was understanding that people dont think the same way i do, some people just dont get it most have to really try and i do it with ease. its not that persons fault theyre like they are. for ijnstance some class mates take the full two weeks to right a paper study hard and barley c their way through. i wait till the day b4 and get an a or b. i think its because my mother never set me down, everything she did iwas a part of, i did the same with my daughtre and it shows. fortunetly we had great parents who loved us enough to spend that extra time,(earlier i had read somthing u said about ur father) and i hope ud do the same with ur children.
just know that when people hate or try to bring u down, its because ur diong it right. its not just the gangsta type when your smart and successful everybody hates if its not on your style it will be on something else they can alienate u with. daily personal politics to one up the next man in the name of capitalism. just let them hate and stay on track. at the same time dont hate back try to understand maybe her was busy picking up a crack pipe instead of her, you never know.
hey stinky always love your insights you seem really cool

phatsesh, I like your posts too, and this one is no let-down! I think that your points about being included in family activities leading to being more inclusive towards others, and the capitalist one-up-man-ship are right on target. Here Stateside we have the expression 'keeping up with the Joneses' which is all about the need to be accepted by what material wealth/image you display rather than on your substance.
Working on your substance is a life-long project, and best of all, it's FREE, and immaterial, so no one can make you pay for it, or take it from you.

This has been a fun thread to read. The only thing i don't agree with is
"Douches and Idiots: AKA Why is it "cool" to be an idiot?"
Name calling when trying to make a point about ignorant or uneducated people is something called Irony.
I got a laugh out of it.
I don't think anyone is better than anyone else. Some it just takes longer to evolve into their true selves. So why not try and find a sly way to educate and help them out.
My motto is Educate THEN Ignore. simply ignoring is not enough:thumbsup:

This single handedly defines drug education in America. Educate the masses with a majority of lies, then ignore them when they realize you were lying and start trying to change it. :D
Not part of the thread, but I found it interesting.

u could use "majority of people" instead of everyone, there are at least 2 of us college goers just here on the forum who i know of who are not among the crowd but from the generation.
plus, we have a better term for what u r calling "gangstas" its "wanksta"
Gangsta has its own level and "respect" if u r defining it right. lol, wanksta on the other hand is going to show tis wankstaness very very soon. u gotta know the difference...
and yes i agree, its sort of a discrimination. but look @ me, I was with many of these wankstas and gangstas back in the old days, i just said to myself "screw them" i rather be alone than popular and idiot or be associated with such people, my life aint gonna be directed by no damn fad or popular opinion! it has to make sense to me and at some point i figured this whole thing has not been making sense from day1 and i had just ignored it.
so dont be too pessimistic, there are some wise people who will never fall into the category and there will some people like me who will be converts:D

I've been into 2 different colleges and in both i could see the same thing rebgirl sees. its a prevailing thing in i would say a lot of colleges if not most.
However, really good universities which tend to hold very few available seats only for best performing students, are a different story. League uni's or other local elite universities like TX A&M or UT here down south
in comparison u gotta see somewhere like UHD from close... u will laugh at it as a uni... , full of wanksta crowd and low performing students who could not go anywhere else.
so are many other colleges and unis around the nation in similar situation more or less.

People will do anything to one up you and all you can do is laugh inside, knowing at the end of the day you do a supposedly harmful drug and you still have tons more sense than people paying for an education, who dont want to be educated.

It's just that I'm so glad my parents raised me to read, watch the news and be involved with things that are educational.
I wish more people were raised with those priorities.
With all due respect, you seem to make a lot of generalisations; how people are raised has, believe it or not, very little impact on the person that they become.
I was brought up on a massive council estate in an awful neighbourhood. The schools were shockingly bad and my dad left when I was young. My mum, not being very academic herself, never really bothered getting involved with my school life.
Consequently, because I was lead by example, being young, I did badly in primary and high school.
It was only in the past few years that I realised that whilst being ignorant is all well and good, (ignorance is bliss etc!) you're only pulling the wool over your own eyes. Which is the equivilent of closing your eyes because you dislike what you are seeing right in front of you.
So I guess my point is that parents only really have an impact on you when you are young and can only live by set examples.

Forget politics! It is just too empty, sort of like baggy clothes and fancy possessions. You seek something more wholesome. Maybe a spiritual relationship? If you ask me the majority population is infatuated with crap that no one needs.
Exactly.
what we need is an ogranization of true reality, an organization that provides people with work, but not for money, work for the sake of whatever the work provides.
a group of people who are self sufficent and extending a helping hand to the rest of the communities in their area free of charge, providing people with the means to work for the resources they need!
Mostly these kinds of things are called communes, but truly, they are sovereign communities.

Sadly if you live in this nation you have to play the game, so if you're forced to you might as well be as educated about the system as possible! The other alternative, of course, is to start a cannabis.com commune somewhere :rastasmoke::hippy:

Aye, the younger general public seems to be mostly made up of ignorant individuals who like to ride around on rims that cost more than the car they put them on. I'm surprised every time I hear someone saying something positive about Obama even though his campaign has taken money from Russia, North Korea, and even Al-Qaeda. People just don't seem to take the initiative to find out anything that is going on in the world today.

Bombadil, people are more concerned with things like how they're going to pay for their gas this month. When a presidential candidate gets on the television and says he's going to do something about it, then what else do they need to hear? They don't care how a candidate lowers taxes or prices at the pump. They care only that it gets done.
I agree, maybe I jumped the gun on that one. People here the word "change", and I agree we do need change, our conservative government has always taken forever to change anything. I just think people should think beyond tomorrow. I mean, what happens if we let someone who is supported by terrorist organizations assume the most powerful position in the world? (and yes, the U.S. President is the most powerful person in the world, BBC did a special about what the next U.S. President should know about science, and they stated a lot of the ways he is the most powerful person. I think it was call Horizon: Science for the Next President, or something similar.) I don't really want to find out.

I was raised overseas and feel like I am pretty well cultured and educated. I was also raised by a highly politically involved father and my parents were missionaries who are now divorced. I got into politics when I was 17 18 is but have since become almost completely uninvolved. I'm not saying that's a good thing, only that I find it interesting that having the news on literally all day everyday, and a dad who can tell you nearly any event that has happened recently anywhere in the world that you cannot find on he news really changes your perceptions. I find that knowing what goes on in the world around me only makes me more sickened by the human race. I haven't watched the news in over a year but get plenty from him, but I have never been happier. Again not saying that it's a good thing to be uninformed but it's nice to be removed the propaganda and hidden agendas of EVERY news station and be able to live my life in peace. Guess it's true 'ignorance is bliss..'
