Hey Reaper,
Is this what you mean, by the 'hybrid vigor'? These kids seem to be growing exceptionly fast...but maybe its just me...These have not been "schoosed" down in the rapid rooters like I usually do....

Peace,
Treetops

probably a little of each ... I still doubt the seedlings like 'scootching' :D ... as far as I know, hybrid vigor shows itself in every facet of development ... faster, bigger, stronger, etc. ... the first 'NorCal Daddy's Girl' blew me away, she just grew 'better' than my others, best way I can describe it ... I would assume that is characteristic of 'hybrid vigor' ... I'll be in Illinois corn country in a couple weeks, I'll ask my farmer buddies ... they explained the hybridized corn programs to me, was very enlightening to this old city boy :D ... again, good work, Treetops, I'm very interested how these turn out, as I was preparing for the same hybrid ... I think you have a potential 'Cup-Winner' there

Reaper,
From the way these babies took off I'd say they got "hybrid vigor" alright!! Out of 6 seeds they all took right off except for 2...which are still in the rapid rooter womb...cracked but thats it..slow growers...
Yes, and I have you to thank for the idea..as I enjoyed the Sour Jack almost as much as the NCDG..now together...I can't wait to see how great it will be...We will one day experience it together...

Clone the living daylights outta that 'monster' pheno or use it in your next generation of crosses. That is a pheno worth saving, male or female, in some form, for its vigor and stature. That is an EXCELLENT looking cannabis plant. Which strain/cross is it?

Stinky,
Thanks for your words of praise...I couldnt ask for more...
What it is...its a cross of the NorCalDaddy'sGirl with Sour Jack...it was the first one to crack seed...been growing strong like that from day one...

If I had the choice, I'd back-cross it to a NCDG. My only complaint with the NCDG is that the new, young leaves are rather tender, and even though the plant clones fast, in sub-optimal conditions is is very difficult to harden off. Adding a set of genetics that shows very vigorous thick leaves would be beneficial IMO.

Treetops
10-21-2008, 08:46 PM
Thats the plan, backcross with the NCDG,...Reaper and I had talked about doing this, I had some pollen, so I gave it a shot...this is the results...I like the results...Maybe this will do the trick in making a sturdier clone one day.. :D

WOW Tree!!!! The monster is INCREDIBLE!!!!
All of them look good, but DAMN!!!! That sucker is a freak of nature.
Has it shown sex yet? As stinky said, even if it's male, you GOTTA carry those genetics on bro... I'd try to cross that with everything and anything I could!! LOL

Thanks for stoppin in and the nice compliment...It is a 'Monster'...no sex signs as yet...Too early as the pic will show...but its a keeper for sure...I would have to say it has that 'hybrid vigor" they talk about... Hoping as Stinky suggested to clone a couple and put some pollen aside for the future..cross back to a DG..this is a learning experience for me..We'll see how it goes...as of now thats the plan...

Hows things with your project? Hope its going well for you...

Hey Gang,
Took a few clones this afternoon...Looks like I may have 2 other 'girls'...Just a couple of pics...Kids in their cribs...full house..Ones on the left I'm LSTing..found foot long pipe cleaners at the local craft store they work like a charm..whats cool with them is, I have one wrapped around the can, and then the one I use, is between the cleaner and the can..all you have to do is cinch it down..the roughness of the pipe cleaner will hold down the plant it just the right increments that you may want..I use them for everything now..hangin lights,gauges,etc....Monster still chuggin along...lower leaves lookin wacky...take note....

the image reaper
11-25-2008, 03:33 PM
only a guess, but perhaps the molasses was 'suffocating' the roots ?? ... IF too strong a mixture, I could see how it could adhere to the roots, and not allow the airstones to get enough air to them ... ?? ... I ran pretty strong molasses ratios for awhile, no problems, but I had a recirculating system, with several in-line airstones ... maybe that let me get away with it ... glad to see them perking back up, regardless ... good save, Tree !
