Just heard it on MSNBC (I know, I'm a hypocrite). I veritably jumped for joy when I heard the news. There are few things on this Earth that make me ashamed of music, and TRL was one of them. It's sad however because now MTV will be playing less actual music than it already does.

They should have cancelled that show long time ago.

yeah, something is up with mtv not really playing music anymore, but its whatever, its good to know that the abomination that TRL is is going away. The tenth year reunion of it actually flew by us, and no one cared, Sept. 14, 2008, i actually know that because i read up on it on wikipedia, and it was just linked to another article.
but, atleast in the mornings and late night/twilight they play videos.

MTV is an absolute disgrace to music today, thanks to all the bullshit pre-packaged garbage they blast in the face of most youth, we have a couple generations that have grown up listening to nothing but the shit that makes it to the top 40. Or in TRL's case the top 10. Maybe now with the absence of that stupid show, people might actually be forced to go out and discover some real music on their own beyond the shit they tell you is good.
I'd like to think that MTV is doing this in an effort to move away from the top 40 format of TRL. Perhaps, even branching out to show some more variety, and hopefully playing some more music... But I know I'm being unrealistic, and they'll probably just fill it with another bullshit show about spoiled rotten ingrateful teens, bitching about how hard they have it, and how unfair things are because they can't go out and party every night of the week, that will end up being cancelled in 5 months, after people get sick of their faces and want to see some new whiny crowd bitch about things. Why they even get to consider themselves an authority on music anymore is beyond me.
Fuck MTV, Fuck TRL, Fuck The VMA's and The Viewers Choice.

mtv is fully aware that they are moving away from the music industry, they have acknowledged their move towards reality television and are embracing it. Which is sick, in a time where people already are overexposed to reality television, they are going and creating 288745 more worthless television shows, and are going to lose a large portion of their viewing audience. Especially, because as much as i hate to say it, TRL was, and in a way still is a very popular show, so the removal of the last bit of music they offer, even to that niche crowd, will ruin their ratings, and hopefully it will make it easier to watch tv when they are not around.

Who watches MTV anyway? What is it, 1998?
I watch VH1 for a few reality shows (yes sometimes I am guilty) but thats it. Everything else is either educational or Adult Swim.
The whole MTV crowd should be banished to some far away place where violence reigns.
