That's what draws me to it jd.....the chance for even light penetration. I'm going crazy and plants are just tripping over each other trying to get to the light. In a ""perfect" setting like Carrie's the plant "doing it's own thing" obviously has good results. But there is a cost in that she takes up a lot of room and hogs up a lot of light which leaves the other plants short of what THEY need so there has to be a balance somewhere. :)
Wow, that's pretty!
12 oz. for 3 plants. That's not too shabby either!
Thanks JD.
If Carrie yields less than 4 oz. of bud, I'd go for the scrog.
If she tops 12 oz. I'd leave well enough alone. But then, I'm very lazy.
I hope you do this Weedy.
It is extra work, but with Hydro and your growing skills it should be impressive.
If you can beat your vertical-grown yield by even 20% I'll go "back to work" and scrog myself silly.
It seems even ancient Lizards don't know everything.;)
Weeze
It's been forever and I've missed your rants, raves, and grows. :D Glad to hear you are doing well and beating that F'ing cancer. I'm no longer living in a place with MMJ laws so life sucks without my medicine. Just wanted to say hello and tell you I've been watching...
BTW, what strains are growing now and which are planned? Be safe and well.

Hi guys, just wanted to drop in and say thanks to weedhound for the inspiration, looking at your grow has fired up my enthusiasm for popping some seeds once again. Loving your work, keep it up!
Time to draw up a shortlist of new beans to try. Suggestions welcome (as long as there not rude lol).
P.S. Hi to MVP and the rest of the guy's too. Long time no see.

Flameon; good to see you; you're probably not around as much because you're still out walking with that beautiful lab arent you? I am feeling GOOD and am walking a mile a day myself and wearing the footpads off one of my shepherds......but she loves it.

Just wanted to give ya another :thumbsup: on your grow...I admire your technique and style...
As long as I have your attention,I also wanted to say that I hope you're feeling O.k and compliment you on your wonderfully generous donation of a lap-top to the member who is in the hospital...Most of us will never see each others faces, but I don't need to see you to know you're a special person with a beautiful heart...
On a lighter note,I met a person at "TY" who's privacy I'll respect...We talked about this site and he said he used to be here under the name "Jack Herer"...He spoke highly of you and said you helped him along the path when he was an inexperienced grower...
A pleasure watchin' you work weedhound!!!
Much RESPECT 4 ya...:hippy:

Aww, you guys are great.....I couldn't have taken on my health issues without the support from everyone here. It's kind of funny because I know someone else who used to be on the board alot and now no longer posts and I have a feeling it's because he got some bad news healthwise. (no, it's not X-Crispi who does still drop by and post here and there.) I miss his posts and his presence but when I got my news I absolutely HAD to share it with the cdot community. I really NEEDED all you guys and everyone came through for me and dealt with my moods and my insanity until Mr Hound and I were able to at least see straight again. Not to mention that growing has become "what I do" now since with my immune-compromised state I can't work as a vet tech these days. Hope to be back to work within a few months now, hopefully.
PS....Also saw cannabis.com mentioned in high times as one the BEST INTERNET SITES regarding medical marijuana. Wowzer......

Is it Carrie you are cutting down? Looks good. When I saw those pics of you holding up the Bic lighter by the plants, I laughed. I was wondering if the plants knew what a lighter was.....hope you didn't Scare her.....:D
Sorry to hear about the chemo. My Dad is going through chemo too. He had a new pet scan few days ago. I hope you both get better soon. I keep trying to get him to use my medicine, but he's not a believer. It's a shame the damn Reefer Madness syndrome is still in effect. Can't even get his doctor to prescribe Marinol......it's the devil's drug seems to be Dr.'s attitude.
Say hi to Mr. Weedhound for me.....:hippy:

Hi Lola, Thanks for stopping by the thread.
The lighter is just for reference these days since we don't smoke any more (I was toking spottily before my lung cancer diagnosis as was Mr Hound) but go the cookie and capsule route. We also both quit smoking cigs a year and a half ago....yet there still seems to be lighters everywhere you turn here.
I'm very sorry to hear about your dad and his chemo.....but I certainly hope the chemo is doing its job and getting rid of his cancer. If you don't mind listing what type I'd love to know but completely understand if you don't want to tell your personal life to internet folks. :)
Well, alas Carrie did not come down today.......we checked trichs and while they are almost all cloudy there are VERY few ambers and we like about 20-ish% amber for these girls so we're going to wait just a bit longer. Today is day 69 I believe and she has been on RO water and Cannazym for about a week so far. I think the cold weather here is starting to slow down the plant's growth etc.....and between Mr Hound AND myself we still forget to turn the heater on for them at night. Probably we should get a timer.

Looks to me like you will have plenty going on with those clones very soon Dai......they'll be beasts before you know it.
The cold temps are definitely slowing things down. We have a little heater inside the grow area to help at night and the central air so believe me between the two of us we ALWAYS skip at least one. The central resevoirs are in the regular room so they are affected the central heating and not the little heater in the grow area.

Hey WeedHound, I don't mind telling you, my dad's cancer is lymphoma and pancreatic. Pet scans show that there is no longer anything showing up. But, being a nurse/science geek, I'm paranoid.
I knew the lighter was just a reference, but thought it was funny to think the plant might be scared of it.:D I tend to think of plants as sentinent creatures, we just don't know how to communicate with them yet. I hope I don't learn how, cause I can't eat/smoke my friends:wtf:

Hey Weedy,
you know you got my vote on the "wait for the trichs"
you watched me impatiently harvest only to realize it too late.
i will be taking a last check this weekend before taking down Wanda.:wtf:
and i'm totally with you on the lil heater, and YES get another timer!
you also watched me 'chill' n stall one grow, i think one of the thai's.
i use a lil heater at nite in winter and keep the place a lil warmer in general.
slightly higher heat bill, but less risk of chill.
Lola, sorry to hear about your dad. All my best wishes out your way:)

Going down right and left from the smoke...LOL!! I liked that part. :D
We did just have six homes busted in my county......final yield was something like 100lb "processed marijuana" and 2100 plants plus $625,000 from the six homes. One was actually in the same little burg as ours but alas, it was not us. These were obviously naughtly people not following the rules like we good mmj patients do. :D
Thanks for the accolades guys.....growing Carrie was a lot of fun and a little sad to take down.......the room seems sort of empty without her. We've delibrately waited to start some new seeds because of the overcrowded mess we just got out of.........:wtf:.....but will be starting 4 more soil and 2 more hydro within the next week. Hydro will most likely be Master Kush but we haven't decided on the soil ones yet. They will probably be more hybrids.....I'm REALLY starting to get into those cause they seem to grow so easily.

Great watching your continuous growlogs. I've just received some new beans to grow sometime next year. Blueberry, Mazar (both from Dutch Passion) and Super Silver Haze (bonus seeds). Have you grown these out? If so, are they in a grow log here?
Thanks in advance.
Weedhound
12-19-2008, 03:09 AM
Only one of those I've grown is Blueberry.....that plants does very well with topping. She's a good yielder as a rule.
Never tried growing the other two but have had SSH in my pipe and it kicked my butt good so it's one I've always wanted to try.

12-19-2008, 11:38 AM
how are ya? hate to hi jack or whatever this might be but do you think that your sativa dominant stains need or are able to handle more nutes?
Shovelhandle
12-19-2008, 01:39 PM
I've read (I think) that the Blueberry is a picky eater (low nutes) I just grew out a haze and AK-47 that took all the nutes I could give them. How about that, Weedy? Blueberry likes her nutes?
Shovelhandle
12-19-2008, 01:47 PM
I love the harvest photos and those two Strawberry Haze are looking beautiful! Have they been 'adjusted' (lst, cropping etc)? Are you going to do such? I heavily FIMed my last (2) Neville's Haze plants but these three clones I just LSTed a little and plan to let them be. Same for the seedlings (BGx and Sweet Buds). I don't remember the last time I did that.
Weedhound
12-19-2008, 03:41 PM
Shove, the Blueberry ate like a pig.....let me find a photo.....she was always a good eater and pretty hearty grower if I remember correctly. A bit too much body stone for me......she's indica in her ways, but a good eater and good yielder.
Weedhound
12-19-2008, 03:59 PM
You know Shov, I seem to recall that when they were babies they were a bit fussy with nutes.....but in bloom they went crazy and ate everything in sight.
The Strawberry Hazes.....I think you may mean the Dutch Dragons? For the SCROG? We have done some "prep work" on those......topped several times and now have LST'd the branches to get them low and long for the screen. We'll see how much it helps......I really broke ALOT when messing around with the Master Kushes which will affect final yield I imagine......so would like to do a less "harsh" SCROG job on those two with less casulaties along the way. :D :stoned:

Carrie was germinated on 8/14 and turned to 12/12 on 10/4; I knew she wouldn't be a pound but I was thinking along the line of 12 oz, not 14 +.
Given THAT info we retract what we said about not trying to grow big plants anymore. Carrie predominately took the 400w light with side lighting from the 1kw. She was at a top hydro solution of 1950 (@700 conversion) and the highest I took her Sweet was 10ml/gallon. That, Liquid Karma, and Hydroplex were her only "extra" nutes. I could have grown perhaps two different plants in her place and perhaps STILL not come up with 14 oz so we really can't complain about the space, time or nutes she took considering her excelllent finish.

ok weedy, now that we are back in here, lets think about the lessons learned the past couple weeks.
get an external hard drive at once(i happen to own 2). Tiger Direct (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=8&name=Hard-Disk-Drives) is running several insane sales online right now, example, 160gig external HD is about 60 bucks right now.
this project will occupy a moderate amount of time, but, with everything saved, backed up on that HD, its portable, can be locked away, and has serious capacity to hold a LOT of data, pics, webpages, etc. I think you'll feel better knowing all that hard work is secure.;)
start copying from the site the stuff you want to never lose.
save entire pages of your threads, if that makes sense to you.
save all your attached pics, click them for the larger original copy, it will have higher resolution and be a better quality jpg. right click in the image itself and "save picture", or see if there is a way to download, if youve used an albumn of some nature (not sure what options there are, never looked)
if you have questions, ask, i will try to help best i can

Rock that's an EXCELLENT idea and I will be doing that. We're leaving for a few days next week......friends are taking care of plants etc.....but I will do it after we get back.
I would have felt a LOT better with my cdot stuff backed up. Usually I only make copies of photos and important docsuments.....these things never seemed as important as they do to me today. :)
Hi Rose. Good to see you back here as well. The friend I gave my original vape to kindly gave it back but it seems to be harsh on my lungs anyway. Since I hadn't been smoking plus the remission I'm VERY sensitive these days to when my breathing changes. And vaping changed it......I think it inflammed my lung tissues. So I stopped. I stil would say it's better than smoking because of the carbon monoxide factor etc.....which you don't get at all with vaping but for me it just wasn't a good for me to be doing to my lungs.

I will also comment on vapin.
tokin over 20 yrs and never vaped until a trip to frisco a year or so ago.
this one had the tubes and mouth pieces on it.
personally, didnt care for it.
didnt taste as good IMO
didnt really gimme the nice "SMACK!" in the side of my head of a heavy duty choking/expando hit
honestly didnt even really get as stoney
and i was tokin outta this dudes RooR the whole week i was there.
now THAT got me baked.
recently a local friend got the vape w/bag.
i tried it.
my opinion hasnt changed.
i realize the greater risks with smokin, but until i can master edibles, i'll toke til i choke:cool:

backin up alllllll of your fine work will be a serious task, dont fool yourself, but, if you schedule yourself and get a feel for faster ways to save stuff itll be done 'for ya know it.
also, you may want to consider only saving your better stuff.
i think if u use the "save page as" from the main file menu, itll be a faster way to get it all.
save the webpages 'complete' that way itll keep all the components of the page, pics, text, avatars, etc.
maybe. ask stinky back channel, maybe as a mod she has some options that will let her save stuff faster and easier, interesting and realistic option there. maybe send her an email.
im fulla ideas n such,,,,i smoked of course, and am lettin my mind drive:smokin:

well, i was gonna get to that, cause i got more to report.
when last mentioned, i took approx 1-1/2 cap, due to 1st time fumblings not filling the caps correctly, no worries, im learnin.
anyways, that night smoked a few times during the night and didnt really feel any too different except maybe a lil stonier and about 4 hrs in got really sleepy, which was good, cause needed rest for work.
last night tried your advice.
took 3 at one time, after work. waited about 2 hrs in then had snack and called that dinner.
never really felt anything specifically intense enough to point out as a new experience. also smoked a few times during the night hoping it might kick start a better reaction, not really.
yes was hi, and kinda different, a very mellow serene kinda feel, not sleepy, was quite alert, no paranoia, but certainly no great overwhelming difference.
it was more of a body thing i 'think'. one thing i did notice as different, was i was sippin my beer, usually about 60-90 minutes, im about 4-5 beers deep. last night tho, i hung out for over 2 hrs and drank 2-1/2 beers. actually left the 3rd one on the bar and just left.
im gonna go take another look at Flame's thread. maybe i missed somethin, i did go by memory.
im considering making them stronger by using a higher herb to butter ratio, but, research first, then thinking and then a decision.

oh, one more thought on the webpage saving.
if you decide to save pages , look in your options, somewhere these is a option for how "deep" or how many "layers" or "links" it will save when saving web pages.
also, theres an option to "make available OFFLINE" that will also save the whole page and i think ask you the option of multiple layers/links too.
I'm pretty sure if you select 3 layers (or whatever its termed) then you should also have all your attachments(pics) as well.
you should experiment and see what works best.
not sure i can simulate for you, because im runnin firefox and its a lil different from inet explorer.
but, i will help where i can:cool:

Thanks guys on the vape opinions. I normally just take cannacaps just love them but sometimes I need immediate relief but at those times I tend to hyperventilate so smoking doesn't really work and I end up wasting so much if nothing else with a vape I can use the dregs in a capsule mixture. Too bad there isn't a lease a vape program(G) I have some cooking now I'm trying Hound's suggestion of trying to cook it a little longer 5 hours.
Lola I'm glad you have thawed out some I keep thinking of that kid in Ohio who wanted to do a winter grow with no supplemental heating....wonder how that came out(BG)

Hey Luna,
I think for your lungs sake a vape is worth the money (that's assuming of course you have the money to spend in the first place). What a shame you don't know someone who's vape you could borrow so you could see if it works. I'm just all the way against smoking at this point in my life for obvious reasons. Vaping IMhumbleO ONLY is more healthy for your lungs than inhaling the carbon monoxide etc.....that goes along with burning ANYTHING to combustion. ;)

Heehee Rose, I wondered about him too...I think the name of the thread was "trying to grow in winter in Ohio". He was so pissed that nobody thought it would work. He was gonna "show us all". I wish he'd update..haha
Remember the big giant wooden coffin he had built for them? What a waste of work & effort. (It was out in the woods ya'll, in Ohio, no less) No power, no fans, no lights...I take that back, he was gonna use a flourescent battery operated light for blooming... :D

Michael......yes it's one plant. These plants were about 20 days into bloom when I totally screwed up the lighting and somehow left the 1kw light on for abut 5 days 24/7 right in the middle of bloom. It screwed up EVERYTHING so ALL the plants started over (they revegged because of the light screw up) and are all huge. The trunks on all them are beasts.....I'll try and grab a trunk photo or two later. They really are tree trunks and not just big stems. :stoned:

Some of my unsexed stuff: NCDG, Super Silver Haze, Black Domina, Ice, Crystal Limit.

Happy to hear it!
The MD will probably want blood for a liver panel.
With the low energy the might want to do a glucose tolerance test as well.
But you should know that vague liver pains are quite common for years after chemo.
If you have an appetite and your eyes aren't turning yellow, you can probably relax.

I'm totally fine with it as long as its not cancer (or pancreatitis which I've had before and am starting to be suspicious of) and if the doctors decide it's nothing to worry about so much the better!! Well, it's just that I'm a descendent of those bank robbing Dalton/James Gang Daltons....lol. It's genetic!
THE SAGA OF THE THE LOST HUMMER
I decided to get my hands on these cool hummers...heehee. Well I made friends with a bunch of the Nat'l Guard soldiers, lured em out to the backwoods, plyed them with Moonshine...Then I proceeded to lure them into swampy areas for some 4-Wheeling! where they'd get stuck, being all drunk and all. So I plied them with MORE moonshine and when they woke up, no hummers.... Of course I kindly left them back at the NG headquarters, so they'd have no idea how to even go and look for them.... Poor things. They just didn't know what that Moonshine would do to them...I did warn them to take it easy...haha
Candy apple red looks real good on em though...LOL
Sending you one Weedy, and of course I had to get Rock one too.... Sorry Weeze, can't get em through customs to send you one....
Of course paint is still drying, and they need at least 12 coats of candy apple to paint over all that Army Military Police stenciling....;)

Thanks Reaper! i'm trying Lola's suggestion of bland foods (not easy for marijuana-munchies-monster like myself) and it DOES seem to be making a difference so that's my guess right there......guess the bloodwork will tell for sure on Mon.
I told the doctors they have GOT to stop pulling things out of their hats on me (pancreatitis, cancer, they spoke of gallbladder issues as well) cause I'm having trouble keeping up. :D

Ok, my REGULAR doctor saw me today and has taken some bloodwork. She's not sure what the scoop is either but because I did have pancreatitis in the past and the pain was somewhat similar (somewhere in all that other mess) she's checking the pancreatic enzymes AND a liver panel as well......she and weezard must have consulted. :D
No need consult. :)
It's S.O.P. for that kine pain.
The gall bladder will usually give shap stabbing pains after you scarf anything greasy.
The trick here is to lay in a supply of healthy kine "grab n eat" munchies ahead of gettin stoned
Pancreas will "ping" whenever it pleases.:(
If you don't have nausea, you can relax a little.
Your doctor knows what she's doing.
Aloha an' be mo' betta.

Ha! forgot to post the results from my doctor! It does turn out to be a mild form of pancreatitis which is already resolving as I post. Thanks for asking after that, Shov. Nothing serious but Lola was right about eating bland stuff......although I'm not quite at the baby food stage........which is good because baby food just plain sounds gross. :D

Did you know when you have pancreatitis, your pancreas is trying to dissolve itself in it's own juices? Eeekkkk! It's a pretty serious ailment.
Keep up the bland diet! If in the future you feel another twinge, stave it off with my yummy baby food diet!
By just not eating and inserting a nasogastric tube, this allows the pancreas to "rest" and get better. That is a hospital type treatment for pancreatitis when ya got it really bad!
Will fly in and stick a tube down your nose for ya anytime Weedy! LOL. Not many friends would do that for ya...haha. j/k
Hope you are feeling better soon.

That's pretty much exactly right......typically an overly fatty meal will start off pancreatitis. In veterinary medicine we tended to see a LOT of it after the holidays and everyone was feeding their pets holiday turkey and ham fat etc etc.....tending to set off pancreatitis.
While I lost my appetite for awhile and my energy both times it came on, I did not feel nauseated so that part was good. In animals the vomiting was usually the frist that people would notice and bring their dogs in. Fairly common in dogs, less so in cats.
In veterinary medicine they do indeed fast the patient if it's bad enough to rest the pancreas and induce as little activity from them (the pancreas) as possible. This is true in dogs, but not in cats......fasting a cat for too long (more than say two or three days) will make it sick in other ways (usually problems related to liver) Dogs are better built to handle fasting for a good while as long as they are on iv fluids and staying hydrated. Lola is right......the inflammation is literally the pancreas trying to digest itself and can be life threatening if it gets bad enough......some veterinarians (don't know about drs) consider emergency surgery a necessary option in a very bad case of pancreatitis to remove the necrotic sections where the pancreas has destoyed itself.
End of chatter :D

So we harvested our Brainstorm: the yield came out to about 7 and 1/6 zips; however one had five and 1/2 and the other had only two so really uneven finish there.
We harvested the top set of buds from the DDxPP (soil) and this time left a good amount to finish longer although I'm pretty darn sure that's where my soil gnat issue keeep repopping up......I've eased up on the Zone (Have I mentioned that DM makes some STRONG stuff??) but every once in a while one pops up and I do not like that.

Rock: Thanks for props. Isn't that why they invented hydroponic growing in the first place? To help "feed the masses" who had little natural resources as far as soil, etc.......doesn't seem to have turned out that way......they must have foergotten that you need a BUTTLOAD of one natural resource for successful hydro: water. So as I have read and seen you were working with hazes. Well I'm currently gemanating my purple haze and I'm going to do in in a box cfl grow. Now my question is how tall was your biggest haze strain and what was the sMallest? And how was the smoke from the harvest?
Rock.Steady
03-28-2009, 02:10 PM
many of Weedy's strains wind up pretty big these days due to the setup available. also I think it has alot to do with how heavy a sativa influence your particular strain is.
According to info I read, Purple Haze typically grows 100-150 cm tall (3.5-5 ft)
I think the important question is, how tall is your growbox?
That being said, I started with CFL grows and they are typically smaller grows due simply to the lack of intense light.
The CFL's provide 'light' and can even be chosen for the proper light spectrum, yet there really is no comparison to the difference in your plants happiness and yield.
I still use them for veg, out of convienince, and there is a huge growth jump when i flip them to the HPS/flower schedle, hugely different from the change I used to get with CFL-spectrum/light schedule change.
In my opinion, your box should try to be about 3ft tall. if so, your prepped for a decent CFL grow.:pimp:
also, in direct response to your Q about WH's different haze grow results, there are several Weedhound logs, I really cant remember specific results, theres been so many,LOL:stoned:
hopefully the hound will chime in with a qwik list:D
I just figured i'd share my experience in the CFL.:pimp:

hey Shov, maybe its a matter of proper preparation?
I generally stick to the florets only, but you can use some stalks sometimes too. The Greener the piece, the more nutrients. The white parts are useless.
there are several options-
saute` w oil n garlic
add to marinara over pasta (a nice switch if you're a pasta fan)
oven baked with a nice cheddar cheese sauce n bread crumb topping (mmm yummy)
in a nice steamed veggie medley, but I would only do the florets for this.
throw florets in w your next pepper steak saute` during final simmer.
its a pretty good veggie to choose to eat-
Broccoli was developed in Italy and is well established as one of the major anti-cancer foods. Over the past 20 years, numerous studies have concluded again and again that people who eat an abundance of broccoli have fewer cancers of the colon, breast, cervix, lungs, prostate, esophagus, larynx, and bladder. Broccoli contains indoles, which can help inactivate harmful estrogens that can promote the growth of tumors, sulforaphane, which stimulates cells to produce cancer-fighting enzymes, and beta-carotene, another cancer fighter.
Broccoli contains some 3% of protein and is one of the richest vegetable sources of calcium, iron and magnesium. Moreover, broccoli is very rich in vitamins A and C, exceeding even oranges in the concentration of the latter.
hmm, i'm hungry, gotta go to the kitchen:smokin:

And I completely agree. Hazes are tall and thin as a rule; and lack the yield of the mixes and the indica dominant strains. I LOVE their buzz.....but love them most of all with a bit indica in them for a bit stronger body stone. My honest favoritie so far is the Sour Northern Lights x Nevilles Haze......that and Arjans strawberry haze. Huge difference in yeild though.....the biggest pull we got on a haze cross was 14 oz.....while thel largest we pulled from a true haze (which also grew to about four feet) was 3 or 4 oz, something along that line. But the wonderful haze buzz makes it worth it.
Ps....Rock is exactly right imo with your cfls. Keep the grow short (not really set up well for tall sativas like haze) by using lots of lst etc.... CFLs simply do NOT have a large footprint like the HIDS.......that's why they should stay closer to the plants to work......their light just doesn't radiate very far.
It's great when the plants are smaller......really sucks after thep lant gets bigger. I think I remember Rock running 12 cfls at one time. As you can see by his last few posts......he doesn't anymore
Damn plant loooked like a christmas tree with freakin cfls all over it. :D
