250watt is better than 400watt

Can anyone shine any light on my problem ???????????
I got250 watt outside security light for growing in a 6ft x 3ft space , which i am getting about an oz per plant ,(skunk no1).
Now for the last 3 grows ive added a cheap 400watt grow light off ebay to go along side it , so each ligh is cosentrated on 3ft x 3ft of the frow room.
The plants under the 400watt are very sparse with about a third or quarter the amount of bud on them as the ones under the 250 watt .
This has happened three times now ...................

Any ideas????????????

did you change bulb? i know that sounds weird/stupid as a question.....
what is the distance from the bulb?
the 250 watts can be as close to 30 cm i think while for400 watt bulbs that raises to 45 degrees.....how many plants per sqft?

The 250 has been burning nearly non stop for about 18 months with the same bulb and the 400watt is about four months old .
I got four plants under each light.l

Could the 400 be too close????? (12") away?

I don't know I grew one plant with 4-65 watt bulbs and that worked just fine for me :cool:

I kept my plants lighting cycle on 18 hours light 6 hours dark until it hit the flowering stage then i changed it to 12 hours light 12 hours dark that worked great try that

the bulb manufacturer in my case (sylvania) states that the minimum distance from the plants is 45cm=18 inches.....try to lift the lights up a bit and see if it works....also the 250watt that is up and running for 18 months in a row, is no good either.....you should change the bulb every six months of continuous operation...even though the manufacturers state the average life of the bulb is longer than that, after six months the bulbs loose in efficiency but they still consume the same wattage anyway!!!!

Thanks Cotten mounth , ive grow under all sorts of lights , but your answer is a bit rubbish.

Yea nice 1 New grow i think the same,shit bulb probably shit ballast too , i know the 250 is in need of desperate change but never got round to it , even though it still pisses all over my 400watt lol.
I will change the 250 bulb for the next lot and try the 400watt pulled back to aroung 45cm rather than 30cm.

Theres nothing else it can be in my mind "too close or a shit light ".. :D
