Hi, newb questiosn here. I've been taking what is basically paxil (I have the generic paxil) for probably 6 or 7 years now. I'm looking for more natural alternatives and looking at MMJ. I just have a few questions.
How effective is it in controlling anxiety? How would I go about getting a perscription or recommendation? I live in Orange County, Fountain Valley. How traceable is having a doctor's recommendation. I would like to keep this privite if I go this route. I believe my medical information should be withheld from work and government. Will this show up on any background check?
Lastly, I don't have easy access to pas medical records. Being on medication for anxiety for the past 7 years, I've seen a few doctors. What should I try to supply?
Thank in advance for any answers to my newbie questions.

I use Cannabis to treat my anxiety. It works wonders.
If you decide to stop your Paxil talk to your Doctor first.
Paxil can have severe withdrawal symptoms.

Your pill bottles will do- not as good as your records, but they are OK. Be sure to bring picture ID with you! And get the doc to write on the rec how much you can grow and possess! The law is changing and getting the numbers on the rec may save you grief later.
Now, about everyone knowing- no one needs to know but you and the doc! That's how I have it. I did NOT get a county card for several reasons- don't trust the county govmt, it might go on my driver's license (varies county to county), I like my privacy and my county doesn't issue them!
To be legal ALL you need is just the letter from the doctor! NO ONE ELSE NEEDS TO KNOW! Carry a copy in your wallet- friend of mine made a cute 1/2 sized copy- cops still honor it.
There are club cards, too. These are just for the club/dispensary that they were issued at. Government and insurance have nothing to do with them. There is a problem with them though- if the DEA raids- they got your records!
I just grow my own- no club, no problems! I work in education in a redneck, backwater town- my job would be history if I got found out (even though I am among the best aides at school! Teachers have gotten in arguments over getting my help in class! Yeah, I'm THAT good! ;) )
So get the rec, grow yer own, and be happy! - Granny :hippy:

hey there fred, I've known mmj to treat anxiety, but for some people, it can possibly trigger or increase anxiety and cause panic attacks. I knew one guy who didn't have an anxiety problem, but he had to be taken to the hospital his third time smoking because he freaked out felt like he couldn't breath. He no longer touches the mj.
On the bright side, most people who ask your question already know they're mj compatible
Like Granny said, take your pill bottles with you and as long as they aren't over a year old, you should get your approval. Once you get your recommendation, the only immediate concern about people finding out is if YOU tell them. Other than that, unless your doctor or co-op gets raided by the feds, all records remain private.

oh yeah, I live in the next city over from you and got my recommendation from Medicann in LB. It was super easy and I showed up to the place with less medical records in hand than what a pill bottle would provide. Sure I have a long history of chronic pain and insomnia, about 12 years now, but I didn't have even 1/10th of the details on hand. I had made my appointment with Medicann and it was like 2 days out. Then went to my HMO asking for copies of my medical record and was told it would take 2 weeks. I went to my appointment with print outs from my HMO's website showing my appointments and emails back and forth with my doctor regarding my medical condition. Medicann said i qualified for mmj, and gave me a recommendation for the full 12 months, but did ask that i send my records once i received them.

I was looking at Medicann's website and they want medical records and information from my PCP. The only thing is to get my medical records I'd have to ask my parents what doctors I've seen. Looking back, I've had 4 Psycologists, 2 that perscribed my meds. I don't want to ask my parents what the doctors were, because I don't want to bring up the subject of why I want my medical records. It's been years since I've seen a psychologists and currently my PCP perscribes my meds. Though, he doesn't have a medical history of my condition. I brought it my bottle and he said he'd be able to perscribe it for me.
To sum it up. Do I really need my medical history? Can't they just ask the state for the records of my perscription drugs I've been getting for 7 years? I don't want to show up and be turned away because I haven't provided enough information. I just don't want to go to my parents and ask them what doctors I've seen.
Sorry if I'm just repeating myself. This is all new to me. I'm just getting tired of Paroxetine. If you miss a pill you get bad withdrawls (dizzy, electic shocks when you move you eyes). Not fun. Plus it's hard to get off the stuff. Why isn't this stuff illegal? :(

no they cannot ask the stae for your records, thats the very thing you mentioned as a concern in your first post...privacy. People cannot just go request your records, you have to initiate it.
Your situation is easy. Just bring in your bottles and make sure the prescription labels are on it from your PCP.

Hey,
I didn't read the rest of the replies to this, but in my opinon it is not a good idea to treat anxiety with mj if you have severe anxiety. And believe me, I'm all for it as a medicine. I even did a huge sppech in my communication class at college on the medical benefits of mj. But some reputable studies say that it can increase anxiety in people who have anxiety people (and some people that don't). And I have to agree with that because I have seen a couple people have anxiety attack while on mj (in my experience mostly people with anxiety problems). But for a person with anxiety that is normal or a little above normal it can work wonders by reducing anxiety substantially. Some people get sketched out because they know they are doing something illegal (unless they have a card). If your anxiety is really bad i would suggest zanex, but it can be physically addictive for some people unlike mj which is not at all physically addictive(it can be emotionally addictive for some people in rare rare cases). good luck. I hope my advice helps.

I have severe Anxiety and am Hypomanic. I have been on every pill out there, and wouldn't trade Mj for them all. I have had an occasional anxiety attack while medicated, butonly whilst trying sativa dominant strains. CBN is one of the cannabinoids you want for anxiety, and most sat/hazes have little to none. CBN or CBDs...just my :twocents:

first I'd like to welcome you farmer fred and hope you stick around and give us a response to how things turn out and teach us more about growing, if you do!
I used Paxil for numerous things. Dried my mouth so bad my tongue split. Getting off any long term use of any medication is not something you want to do cold turkey.
I assume you've tried and know what mmj works for you!! Take the advice you have been given and what Granny tells you, is what works for records, etc! That is mmj God giving you that advice for the area!!! And the other Gods of psychological use have spoken, plus a few others may! You have lots of great info.
What I personally did: Started using the mmj and cutting my Paxil (taking it oral-not messing with the original form). Gradually over about 2-3 weeks--no Paxil. I keep it around, if I run out of mmj and need something for a bit, I take a real small dose (even though it isn't suppose to an immediate relief) I do have some results and take sporatically with my supply of mmj!
I believe, in time, we may be pushed to get State ID cards and pay taxes on this medication! I feel as you do--the less the Gov't knows of me, the better!
Only, I wonder, I've see Medi-cann cards and state cards! In Riv. cty it is $153.00 for a state card, others may vary, I dunno.. I feel if the DEA close's a place they have all the card members info! I buy creatively and legal! :twocents::twocents:
However, I'd like to take this opportunity to invite you to a meeting every Friday night at 8 PM at: (951) 782-9898, Call, you will have all kinds of doors and opportunities opened for you education and medical people that will assist you along the way! You do not have to join or do a thing, but sit and learn. You can join grow clubs, etc! the gro stuff is new! It is ever evolving to the trends of the times. And excellent source to find EXACTLY what is going on in our area's and what we can and need to do MOSTLY TO PROTECT ourselves from ourselves!!! C U there!

Don't confuse the name I use here. Not a farmer of MMJ. However, an update for anyone that is interested. I haven't taken the plunge yet to see a doctor. I'm weighing all my options. Mostly I'm concerned about the DEA raiding MMJ supplies. I live in an apartment and I don't have the room to grow, plus I don't have the time to research it, and take care of the plants.
I'm just concerned what the DEA does with the information they sieze. I know MJ helps me, I've used it. It calms me down a lot. No side effects, I get up in the morning and I feel fine. If I miss a pill with my meds, if anyone has any experience with paxil, I have awful withdrawls all day. Shocks, dizzyness, I just feel horrible.
I guess this is more of a rant than an update. I'm on the diving board, I'm just hesitant to jump into the pool. I'd like to thank everyone for their inputs though.

farmerfred; You can get your 'rec' from the Dr. and buy creatively and legally. Find a grower or another mmj person and share. You can share between patients. I do not wnat my records at the collective, etc, in case they are raided-so I buy from another-creatively and get the nice medical grade that helps. I am legal!
At least for my area! pr--don't overthink it, decide if you can move around your city without a record or create one. pr:smokin:

Just an update. I finally decided to do it and I have an appointment to see a doctor in Irvine. I'm hoping everything goes well. All I'm bringing is my bottle of perscription drugs. My records that I was hoping on getting are near impossible to get. My parents don't have them, I tried calling them and they destroyed those records, and I'm sure te doctors I saw have destroyed their records as well. I believe they only keep records on file for 5 years. I've been on these meds for 9 now.
Anyway, wish me luck!

Im sure this was said.. Marijuana can ease anxiety or trigger anxiety it depends on your individual chemical make up... Im a full believer in Medical Marijuana.. I use the strongest strains instead of painkillers to ease some of my back pain...While Its not a totally effective pain reliever it does not harbor the side effects and addiction that narcotics do,, Plus I love being being IRIE:thumbsup: Anyway Cannabis effects everyone differently, In some it relieves, for some it does nothing, and for some it can cause ill effect...That being said, its safer to experiment with MJ than it is with Paxil and Zanex.... d:rastasmoke:

True, my wife has had anxiety attacks that I believe was because of Marijuana in the past, but she has some other mental illnesses and issues that aren't going to magically go away with medication and medication only.
Years ago I also had a paxil prescription, which I eventually weened myself off of when I began to smoke Marijuana and while medicated haven't had problems really with depression or anxiety. Then years back life was going all wrong for a while and I wasn't smoking mj at all, problems arose. Eventually ended myself up hospitalized and prescribed.. zyprexa. After I came home I began smoking again and started to use marijuana again, stopped taking the zyprexa, and things have been fine since then.
edit: yeah I know zyprexa is for some more serious illnesses, but the doctor I had at the time thought my symptoms were severe enough that it warranted giving it a try, and had success with others in the past with similar symptoms.
