View Full Version : Episode 4: The Clone Colonies

Here in lies the beginning of the SnSstealth LED SOG Perpetual Garden...
One of the Procyons in this clone room are joining his buddies in the flowering room. The remaining Procyon will maintain the 3-5 mothers that will be kept initially and we will add a 24 in T5 for the clones soon...
The clones pictured are 9 HKxBI's, 3 which have been topped twice to assume their mothery roles, the rest will be going in the flowering room probably by monday. 4 are Church, one selected for mum, the rest will be joining the HKs into flowering monday. The last 2 clones are the SB, one topped for mum, other going into flower.
The mums remaining will probably be ready to have clones taken in 3 weeks. From here I would like some ideas/opinions on how to get the full potential out of making this a SOG.
For now, the clones will go into Rapid Rooters. Once rooted placed into either 20 0z styrofoam cups, or 4in pots for a week-10 days tops. Then transplant into 1 gal for sending to flower. I am aiming for about 24in plants. Lemme know how that sounds. From then on, it will either be 8 going in, and 8 harvesting every 2 weeks, or 16 once a month....Dunno how to run that yet...
Upon the Episode 3 girls harvest, the winning HKxBI of the 2 mums kept, will be the sole winner of mother status. And the smoke test will determine if I keep the SB going after that set of clones.
The Episode 3 log will continue till harvest.
Stay buzzed in

The 4th Procyon was added to the flowering room today, along with 9 of the clones. HKxBI #4 is lookin kinda nice, so I kept a potential mum of her...
Otherwise, room is lookin lovely. All kinda o sparkly stuff...

don't know if it's any good but I asked the owner of one of the local hydro shops if they had anything for fungus gnats he showed me a product called
NO GNAT haven't tried it, it's water soluble and supposed to work I had a gnat problem w/ my last ebb n flow grow.

SnSstealth
09-07-2008, 06:24 PM
I haven't treated the plants themselves at all WH. Only the soil/roots. The gnats have not shown any interest in the vegetative matter. Not one leaf has shown any damage from the bugs far as I can tell. The adults seem to not bother the plants at all, and only live maybe 2 days. I have heard recently that they might be fungus gnats, and present in the FF when we bought it. Might be the case. So I am not really even sure that they are bothering the grow...Unless the larvae are feeding on the root hairs.
Who fuckin knows....

And can anyone tell me why after 3 weeks of 24/0 and plenty of vegetative growth later, my mums are still throwing calyxes and pistils out? Took the clones at like 10 days flower. Shouldn't still be doing that IMHO
Anyhoo...Have been FIMing and supercropping my way up these moms, I dig how they are lookin...2-3 weeks have way more than the 16 needed for the cycling. But after smoking the Episode 3 girls, not all the mums will be stayin...:greenthumb:

Well, If You Let Them Go On 12/12 For Ten Day's???,,,They Think They Are Flowering,,,Then When You Put Them Back To 24/7,, They Will Be Stunted For Another Two Week's Or So,,,,This Is Just Stuff I Have Read About Re-Veg.,,Not First Hand!!!

hey stealth... I took 20 clones at about 2-3 week flowering off my outdoors and they rooted within 8 days and showed new growth in a week 1/2.. the pistils never died and the new nodes had calyxes so Im not sure if that is what your referring too, but once flipped to flower, they had heavy new pistils in 4 days

Hatch...Green...thanks guys! I think what you are explaining is what I got. The new growth does have pistils, but they are real thin...should I pull them all off the moms? Or will they eventually stop throwing pistils? Thought I pulled the majority off when I took the clones...
Doesn't seem to be affecting them, all of the clones are growing super fast and healthy. Ill take some pics of the mums and the ones sent to flower today...

Ounce a Plant Get To A Certain Stage In Life It Will Alway's Show It's Sex,,,I Can See Maybe Topping Or Fim'n,,,Otherwise,,,Just Watch Her Go!!!
When I Clone, I Will Clean Up Just What Is Going In The Basket,,& I Leave Everything Above,,,Then After About 5 To 6 Day's When They Have Rooted Well,,I May Trim Some Of The Bigger Leaves That Have Yellowed,,Or Top Them If They Are Going To Be Donor Clones (mom),,,But Other Then That, Just Watch Them Grow!!:rasta: :rasta: :rasta:

I just didnt get how after taking the clones at 10 days, and they barely had any pistils...after growing on 24/0 for 3 weeks, Obviously growing veg again, lol...you should've seen how tiny the clones where, that they are making NEW pistils still....In veg stage...hadn't ever taken clones in flower before, so that was news to me...thanks for letting me know I didnt need to freak out hatch, lol...

Hello SnS.....I've been lurking here admiring all your great work on this grow and on Episode 3 and have some thoughts on your fungus gnat problem. I've used in the past Knock-Out Gnats from [url=http://www.gardensalive.com]"Environmentally Responsible Gardening Products that Work". You have to use it at least 3 weeks in a row....I've used 4 weeks in a row just to be sure, They also sell a spray called Pyola Insect spray that might be worth a try. Here are the directions from the website:
Stops fungus gnats that attack your houseplants and greenhouse plants
Only from Gardens Alive! This strain of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bti) provides very effective fungus gnat control for houseplant growers and home greenhouses. Populations of fungus gnats (often called "fruit flies") usually peak during winter and spring. The tiny adult insects lay their eggs in peat moss, humus-rich organic soil and potting media. The larvae then feed on plant roots, including those of young seedlings. Infested plants wilt, roots rot and the plants may eventually die.
With Knock-Out Gnats, however, the larvae ingest the larvicide and die! Use as a soil drench, 2-8 tsp. per gallon of water. Make three weekly applications to control successive generations. You can monitor effectiveness of Knock-Out Gnats with sticky traps.
Good luck with your problem. You've done some amazing work so far and I'm looking forward to seeing more..... :hippy: Indoorgirl

I took a lone clone of a flowering plant in my last grow and found it to root very quickly but like you said it kept producing pistils but eventually it bounced back into veg mode. then it died due to my neglect dun dun duuuuuuuuun. but I learned something in the process, cloning flowering plants is possible but I'll try to make that decision to clone or not to clone next time before the onset of flowering. But knowin me I'll be doing it again...lol...

WT and DB, I can't keep up with you guys. I'm gone for a couple of weeks, and the entire Star Wars trilogies are nearly reproduced here. I'm sorry I can't add anything to the advice being given for your mom plants. I would tend to agree they may be rootbound, and I've read trimming the roots is a viable solution. A good flush may do the trick too, although it seems like you said you have not given them any nutes? Flushing couldn't hurt though.
I know you will get their problems sorted though - you've got the thumbs for it! Take good care out there, my friend! Good luck!

hey guys, I've been reading on the forum for a couple of weeks now. I've been growing indoors with a 600w flowering room and a 400w veg room for 4 years. I recently purchased 4 procyons. I am moving to a perpetual SOG setup. Three procyons for flower, 1 for veg. I grow in 10 gallon rubbermaid containers with two plants per box. There will be twelve of these boxes in the flowering room. 4 boxes are just a little bigger than 3X3 more like 3X3.25. I'm sure that through rotation I won't have any problems.
The strain is AK 47. It has been very good to me, recommended after i get my 50 posts in i'll try to start a log. until then just a bunch of talk i guess. BTW, SnS very good job hoprfully we will be able to help each other out.

Few plan changes...Seeing how well the Church that was hacked did in a 5 gal...I cloned the church mum we got (week old pic below) only 4 cuttings, and Im gonna veg her a wee bit longer, and transplant to a 5 gal...Thinking it may be the first QP LED grown plant:woohoo:
The HK#5 was frosty, but in the end, #4 was just as frosty and much fatter, so I culled the HK5 mum, and chopped for bonsai the HK4.
HK#2 will also be getting culled out, took 5 clones for filing the rooms sake, but culled the mum. Either a NCDG or Yeags MTF x BI wil be taking its place.
SO....15 clones cut, 13 to be going in the flowering room soon as episode 3s girls are done.

Hello, I've been reading and lurking for some time now and am really impressed. I've also been following the Procyon and LED grows at Experiments with Hydroponics, Aeroponics, and LED Grow Lighting (http://www.greenpinelane.com). The LED grows seem to be getting better and better. Did you see Ryan's test of the SmartLamps? Truly awesome, but at $1400 a pop it's just a bit much.
SNS, do you think a fruitful seed to bud grow can be attained with the Procyon without any supplemental lights? Let's say the grow room is 9sq ft and all other systems are working well.
Thanks and looking forward to continued reading and learning.

Thanks for your reply.
I have read and scanned that set of posts several times and here's my synthisis of 48 pages of posts in LED growing- An instructional grow log, 17 pages of Episode 3 and the few pages here to a couple of sentences.
Yep it can be done all LED but you'll get a bigger yield if you add full spectrum floros or HID as in Episode 3 with the T12 floros. And for your next grow you plan on adding HID 70's? The upshot is LED good. but adding HID or floros is better?
I know this is all experimental and learn as you grow but do you think adding other lights to the mix is best?
SnSstealth
10-02-2008, 02:09 AM
Correct,
We have found that something is definitely lacking with the LEDs. Dont get me wrong, you will still get some super dank with a procyon alone, but the yield and it appears finishing time are effected. So, IMHO, (and a few others I guess) adding the 3 70W HPS to the mix will give them the far-red/infrared that they need, or at least that we think we need. We could do this with LEDs, but the specific ones needed like the 730Nm are very expensive and sparse. So for now, we feel the HPS will do best. Damn sure cant hurt...lol
The floros, although only used for about 75% of the flowering cycle arent doing shit at the height we have to have em, so they are for the birds...

But at the same time I've got to give props to you and DB for the increased level of skill that's apparent in your grows... you've came along way since the 1st grow log, impressive...I'm absolutely staying tuned for the next episodes and seasons of the SnS show...even though I'm hooked on Dexter right now I'll still find time for your show

SnS. How is some of that bud from Episode 3 smoke...you say its very resinous...do you think its equivalent to a HPS or find that LED bring more potency out. Also in regards to the freak pheno...what strain was that? just wondering.
good luck on EP. 4 ...i can't wait until i harvest myself.

The freak was a HKxBI F1. Definitely leaning more towards the BI. I call her Jawdrop....lol. Any of my friends as well as myself, within 5 min of finishing the bowl, are sitting on the couch, mouth hanging open, lol. Good shit
The Church is quite the smoke too. Not too big a fan of the Smashberry, great smell and taste, but pretty boring high.

sns, do you feel that the hps and other supplemental lighting is important throughout the whole grow or just during flowering?
i've browsed through your 3 grows here and am impressed with the results...so much so that i now own a procyon which is being used for cloning and starting veg. the procyon is replacing my 400w mh/hps which it looks like i'm going to hang onto now.

found this today and cut/pasted it from Wikipedia's hydroponic page:
NASA has done extensive hydroponic research for their Controlled Ecological Life Support System or CELSS. Hydroponics intended to take place on Mars are using LED lighting to grow in different color spectrums with much less heat
If hydro and LED's are good enough for NASA and the Martians, it's sounds just right for my spaceship...lol...

Correct,
We have found that something is definitely lacking with the LEDs.

Im too stoned...picks tomorrow when more of the Episode 3 girls come down.
P.S.S (whatever) lookin like NCDG is gonna be in the line up!!!:woohoo:
Wuts up sns and everybody. I can not express how gratefull I am to have your guys experiences and knowledge to learn from. I am looking into purchasing a procyon and im wondering what you think about using floros, even cheap ones like International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - An Inexpensive & Better CFL for Growing in Small Spaces (http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=54905) to make up for the non-procyon spectrums?

hey stealth,
I gotta say.....GOOD JOB on the logs!
I,ve been considering going LED, but until I found your logs I couldn't get any impartial and/or factual info!! THANKS!!
But I have a few questions.
I have been growing for a long time(on and off),but didn't get serious until my wife left me about 6 years ago, and I didn't start growing indoors until a couple of years ago. I can describe my system later if you like, but for now I would like to know if you were using any CO2, Ihavn't read anything about CO2 in your threads.
Thanks for your time and your great effort!
