Indeed, she's quite sharp and provided a fresh voice that the Republicans needed. I don't necessarily agree with all what she said, but damn she's executed her speech beautifully.

i dunno, i thought there was too much Obama-bashing going on. like, yea we want to know that you're going to do a better job than the opposing party, but the convention wasn't supposed to be an opportunity to roast the opponent.
i personally thought the Dem party's convention was a bit more mature.
but i too am not really counting any chickens until I see the debates. that's where you really know who is made of what.

Mature? The DNC did nothing but bash Bush. Topical AND mature. Not to mention their not running against Bush. So it was all just for empty applause.
I feel that she was trying to show that she can take on Biden and Obama. She had to show that she was indeed more qualified and she did that by pointing out Obama's flaws.

really, if we wanna be fair, both sides kinda do the same thing one way or another when it gets to these conventions
real thing (if there is such a thing, to me 99% politics is a show, game is run from behind the scenes) is going to be the debates

Constructing the greek temple of Obama was more mature? Wasting all that cash for a seperate venue for his lordship was more mature?
She NAILED it tonight and even the left wingers of MSNBC stated that she is the "Obama" of the right. The only negative that they had to say was on how she picked on poor Obama to much.......:sadcrying
Have a good one!:s4:

Although there weren't many specifics in this VICE PRESIDENTIAL ACCEPTANCE SPEECH, there were a few, I have highlighted them for you.
I will post Obama's and McCains speeches side by side as well and we can pick out specifics from each when that happens.
Mr. Chairman, delegates, and fellow citizens: I am honored to be considered for the nomination for vice president of the United States ... I accept the call to help our nominee for president to serve and defend America.
I accept the challenge of a tough fight in this election ... against confident opponents ... at a crucial hour for our country.
And I accept the privilege of serving with a man who has come through much harder missions ... and met far graver challenges ... and knows how tough fights are won -- the next president of the United States, John S. McCain.
It was just a year ago when all the experts in Washington counted out our nominee because he refused to hedge his commitment to the security of the country he loves.
With their usual certitude, they told us that all was lost -- there was no hope for this candidate who said that he would rather lose an election than see his country lose a war.
But the pollsters and pundits overlooked just one thing when they wrote him off.
They overlooked the caliber of the man himself -- the determination, resolve, and sheer guts of Senator John McCain. The voters knew better.
And maybe that's because they realize there is a time for politics and a time for leadership ... a time to campaign and a time to put our country first.
Our nominee for president is a true profile in courage, and people like that are hard to come by.
He's a man who wore the uniform of this country for 22 years, and refused to break faith with those troops in Iraq who have now brought victory within sight.
And as the mother of one of those troops, that is exactly the kind of man I want as commander in chief. I'm just one of many moms who'll say an extra prayer each night for our sons and daughters going into harm's way.
Our son Track is 19.
And one week from tomorrow -- September 11th -- he'll deploy to Iraq with the Army infantry in the service of his country.
My nephew Kasey also enlisted, and serves on a carrier in the Persian Gulf.
My family is proud of both of them and of all the fine men and women serving the country in uniform. Track is the eldest of our five children.
In our family, it's two boys and three girls in between -- my strong and kindhearted daughters Bristol, Willow, and Piper.
And in April, my husband Todd and I welcomed our littlest one into the world, a perfectly beautiful baby boy named Trig. From the inside, no family ever seems typical.
That's how it is with us.
Our family has the same ups and downs as any other ... the same challenges and the same joys.
Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge.
And children with special needs inspire a special love.
To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters.
I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House. Todd is a story all by himself.
He's a lifelong commercial fisherman ... a production operator in the oil fields of Alaska's North Slope ... a proud member of the United Steel Workers' Union ... and world champion snow machine racer.
Throw in his Yup'ik Eskimo ancestry, and it all makes for quite a package.
We met in high school, and two decades and five children later he's still my guy. My Mom and Dad both worked at the elementary school in our small town.
And among the many things I owe them is one simple lesson: that this is America, and every woman can walk through every door of opportunity.
My parents are here tonight, and I am so proud to be the daughter of Chuck and Sally Heath. Long ago, a young farmer and haberdasher from Missouri followed an unlikely path to the vice presidency.
A writer observed: "We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty, sincerity, and dignity." I know just the kind of people that writer had in mind when he praised Harry Truman.
I grew up with those people.
They are the ones who do some of the hardest work in America ... who grow our food, run our factories, and fight our wars.
They love their country, in good times and bad, and they're always proud of America. I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town.
I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better.
When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too.
Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown.
And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves.
I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening.
We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.
As for my running mate, you can be certain that wherever he goes, and whoever is listening, John McCain is the same man. I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment.
And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.
But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.
Politics isn't just a game of clashing parties and competing interests.
The right reason is to challenge the status quo, to serve the common good, and to leave this nation better than we found it.
No one expects us to agree on everything.
But we are expected to govern with integrity, good will, clear convictions, and ... a servant's heart.
I pledge to all Americans that I will carry myself in this spirit as vice president of the United States. This was the spirit that brought me to the governor's office, when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau ... when I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, big oil companies, and the good ol' boys network.
Sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched interests and power brokers. That's why true reform is so hard to achieve.
But with the support of the citizens of Alaska, we shook things up.
And in short order we put the government of our state back on the side of the people.
I came to office promising major ethics reform, to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is the law.
While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor's office that I didn't believe our citizens should have to pay for.
That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay.
I also drive myself to work.
And I thought we could muddle through without the governor's personal chef -- although I've got to admit that sometimes my kids sure miss her. I came to office promising to control spending -- by request if possible and by veto if necessary.
Senator McCain also promises to use the power of veto in defense of the public interest -- and as a chief executive, I can assure you it works.
Our state budget is under control.
We have a surplus.
And I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending: nearly half a billion dollars in vetoes.
I suspended the state fuel tax, and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress.
I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks," for that Bridge to Nowhere.
If our state wanted a bridge, we'd build it ourselves. When oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged -- directly to the people of Alaska.
And despite fierce opposition from oil company lobbyists, who kind of liked things the way they were, we broke their monopoly on power and resources.
As governor, I insisted on competition and basic fairness to end their control of our state and return it to the people.
I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history.
And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly forty billion dollar natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence.
That pipeline, when the last section is laid and its valves are opened, will lead America one step farther away from dependence on dangerous foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart.
The stakes for our nation could not be higher.
When a hurricane strikes in the Gulf of Mexico, this country should not be so dependent on imported oil that we are forced to draw from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
And families cannot throw away more and more of their paychecks on gas and heating oil.
With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers.
To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies ... or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia ... or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries ... we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas.
And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we've got lots of both.
Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems -- as if we all didn't know that already.
But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.
Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more new-clear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative sources.
We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers. I've noticed a pattern with our opponent.
Maybe you have, too
.
We've all heard his dramatic speeches before devoted followers.
And there is much to like and admire about our opponent.
But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform -- not even in the state Senate.
This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word "victory" except when he's talking about his own campaign. But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed ... when the roar of the crowd fades away ... when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot - what exactly is our opponent's plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he's done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer is to make government bigger ... take more of your money ... give you more orders from Washington ... and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world. America needs more energy ... our opponent is against producing it.
Victory in Iraq is finally in sight ... he wants to forfeit.
Terrorist states are seeking new-clear weapons without delay ... he wants to meet them without preconditions.
Al-Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America ... he's worried that someone won't read them their rights? Government is too big ... he wants to grow it.
Congress spends too much ... he promises more.
Taxes are too high ... he wants to raise them. His tax increases are the fine print in his economic plan, and let me be specific.
The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes ... raise payroll taxes ... raise investment income taxes ... raise the death tax ... raise business taxes ... and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.
(You can infer here that the McCain presidency will NOT raise income taxes ... raise payroll taxes ... raise investment income taxes ... raise the death tax ... raise business taxes ... and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars. )
(Making the Bush tax cuts permanent)
My sister Heather and her husband have just built a service station that's now opened for business -- like millions of others who run small businesses.
How are they going to be any better off if taxes go up? Or maybe you're trying to keep your job at a plant in Michigan or Ohio ... or create jobs with clean coal from Pennsylvania or West Virginia ... or keep a small farm in the family right here in Minnesota.
How are you going to be better off if our opponent adds a massive tax burden to the American economy? Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election.
In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers.
And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.
They're the ones whose names appear on laws and landmark reforms, not just on buttons and banners, or on self-designed presidential seals.
Among politicians, there is the idealism of high-flown speechmaking, in which crowds are stirringly summoned to support great things.
And then there is the idealism of those leaders, like John McCain, who actually do great things. They're the ones who are good for more than talk ... the ones we have always been able to count on to serve and defend America. Senator McCain's record of actual achievement and reform helps explain why so many special interests, lobbyists, and comfortable committee chairmen in Congress have fought the prospect of a McCain presidency -- from the primary election of 2000 to this very day.
Our nominee doesn't run with the Washington herd.
He's a man who's there to serve his country, and not just his party.
A leader who's not looking for a fight, but is not afraid of one either. Harry Reid, the Majority Leader of the current do-nothing Senate, not long ago summed up his feelings about our nominee.
He said, quote, "I can't stand John McCain." Ladies and gentlemen, perhaps no accolade we hear this week is better proof that we've chosen the right man. Clearly what the Majority Leader was driving at is that he can't stand up to John McCain. That is only one more reason to take the maverick of the Senate and put him in the White House. My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of "personal discovery." This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn't just need an organizer.
And though both Senator Obama and Senator Biden have been going on lately about how they are always, quote, "fighting for you," let us face the matter squarely.
There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you ... in places where winning means survival and defeat means death ... and that man is John McCain. In our day, politicians have readily shared much lesser tales of adversity than the nightmare world in which this man, and others equally brave, served and suffered for their country.
It's a long way from the fear and pain and squalor of a six-by-four cell in Hanoi to the Oval Office.
But if Senator McCain is elected president, that is the journey he will have made.
It's the journey of an upright and honorable man -- the kind of fellow whose name you will find on war memorials in small towns across this country, only he was among those who came home.
To the most powerful office on earth, he would bring the compassion that comes from having once been powerless ... the wisdom that comes even to the captives, by the grace of God ... the special confidence of those who have seen evil, and seen how evil is overcome. A fellow prisoner of war, a man named Tom Moe of Lancaster, Ohio, recalls looking through a pinhole in his cell door as Lieutenant Commander John McCain was led down the hallway, by the guards, day after day.
As the story is told, "When McCain shuffled back from torturous interrogations, he would turn toward Moe's door and flash a grin and thumbs up" -- as if to say, "We're going to pull through this." My fellow Americans, that is the kind of man America needs to see us through these next four years.
For a season, a gifted speaker can inspire with his words.
For a lifetime, John McCain has inspired with his deeds.
If character is the measure in this election ... and hope the theme ... and change the goal we share, then I ask you to join our cause. Join our cause and help America elect a great man as the next president of the United States.
Thank you all, and may God bless America.
Now, here is Biden's acceptance speech. Feel free to pick out the "specifics" for me! I will pick out the points that I like for those of you that think the democrats were somehow holier than thow and did not lower themselves to mindless attacks! I will also highlight and rebutt some of the BS. Enjoy!
You know, folks, my dad used to have an expression. He'd say: "You know you're a success when he turns and looks at his son or daughter and knows that they turned out better than he did." I am a success. I am a hell of a success.
Beau, I love you. I am so proud of you. I'm so proud of the son you've become. I'm so proud of the father you are. And I'm so proud of my son Hunter, my daughter Ashley, and my wife, Jill, the only one who leaves me both breathless and speechless at the same time.
It is an honor to share this stage tonight with President Clinton (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Bill+Clinton), a man I think brought this country so far along that I only pray that we can repeat it. And last night, it was moving to watch Hillary, one of our great leaders of our party, a woman who has made history and will continue to make history: a colleague, my friend Senator Hillary Clinton (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Hillary+Clinton).
And I am truly honored to live in a country with the bravest warriors in the world. And I'm honored to represent our first state - my state - the state of Delaware (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Delaware).
Since I've never been called a man of few words, let me say this as simply as I can: Yes. Yes, I accept your nomination to run and serve with Barack Obama, the next President of the United States of America.
Let me make this pledge to you right here and now. For every American who is trying to do the right thing, for all those people in government who are honoring their pledge to uphold the law and honor the Constitution, no longer will you hear the eight most dreaded words in the English language: "The Vice President's office is on the phone."
Barack and I took very different journeys to this destination, but we share a common story. Mine began in Scranton, Pennsylvania (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Scranton+(Pennsylvania)), and then Wilmington (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Wilmington), Delaware. My dad, who fell on hard economic times, always told me: "Champ, when you get knocked down, get up. Get up." I was taught that by my dad, and God, I wish that my dad was here tonight, but I am so grateful that my mom, Catherine Eugenia Finnegan Biden, is here tonight. Mom, I love you. You know my mom taught her children - all the children who flocked to our house - that you are defined by your sense of honor, and you are redeemed by your loyalty. She believes that bravery lives in every heart and her expectation is that it will be summoned.
Failure at some point in your life is inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable. As a child I stuttered, and she lovingly would look at me and told me, "Joey, it's because you're so bright you can't get the thoughts out quickly enough." When I was not as well dressed as the other kids, she told me, "Joey, you're so handsome honey, you're so handsome." And when I got knocked down by guys bigger than me, and this is the God's truth, she sent me back out the street and told me, "Bloody their nose so you can walk down the street the next day." And that's what I did.
After the accident, she told me, "Joey, God sends no cross that you cannot bear." And when I triumphed, my mother was quick to remind me it was because of others.
My mother's creed is the American creed: No one is better than you. Everyone is your equal, and everyone is equal to you.
My parents taught us to live our faith, and to treasure our families. We learned the dignity of work, and we were told that anyone can make it if they just try hard enough.
That was America's promise. For those of us who grew up in middle-class neighborhoods like Scranton and Wilmington, that was the American dream.
But today that American dream feels as if it's slowly slipping away. I don't have to tell you that. You feel it every single day in your own lives.
I've never seen a time when Washington (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Washington) has watched so many people get knocked down without doing anything to help them get back up. Almost every night, I take the train home to Wilmington, sometimes very late. As I sit there in my seat and I look out my window and I see the flickering lights of the homes we pass by, I can almost hear the conversation they're having at their kitchen table after they put their kids to bed. Like millions of Americans, they're asking questions as ordinary as they are profound. Questions they never ever thought they'd have to ask themselves:
-Should mom move in with us now that dad is gone?
-Fifty, sixty, seventy dollars just to fill up the gas tank?
-How in God's name, with winter coming, how are we gonna heat the home?
-Another year, no raise?
-Did you hear? Did you hear they may be cutting our health care at the company?
-Now, now we owe more on the house than it's worth. How in God's name are we going to send the kids to college?
-How are we gonna retire?
You know, folks, that's the America that George Bush (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/George+W.+Bush) has left us, and that's the America we'll continue to get if George - excuse me, if John McCain (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/John+McCain) is elected president of the United States of America (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/United+States). Freudian slip! Freudian slip! And folks, these are not isolated discussions among families down on their luck. These are common stories among middle-class people who've worked hard their whole life, played by the rules on the promise that their tomorrows would be better than their yesterdays.
That promise is the promise of America. It defines who we are as a people. And now it's in jeopardy. I know it. You know it. But John McCain doesn't get it. Barack Obama gets it though. Like many of us in this room, like many of us in this hall, Barack worked his way up. His is the great American story. You know, I believe the measure of a man is not the road he travels; it's the choices he's made along that road.
And ladies and gentlemen, Barack Obama could have done anything after he graduated from college. With all his talent and promise, he could have written his own ticket to Wall Street (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Wall+Street).
But what did he choose to do? He chose to go to Chicago (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Chicago). The South Side of Chicago. There - there in the South Side of Chicago he met men and women who had lost their jobs. Their neighborhood was devastated when the local steel plant closed. Their dreams had to be deferred. Their self-esteem gone. And ladies and gentlemen, he made their lives the work of his life. That's what you do when you're raised by a single mom, who worked, went to school and raised two kids on her own. That's how you come to believe, to the very core of your being, that work is more than a paycheck. It's dignity. It's respect. It's about whether or not you can look your children in the eye and say: We're going to be all right.
Because Barack made that choice, 150 (thousand) more children and parents have health care in Illinois (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Illinois). He fought to make that happen. And because Barack made that choice, working families in Illinois pay less taxes and more people have moved from welfare to the dignity of work. And he got it done.
And when he came to Washington, when he came to Washington, John and I watched with amazement how he hit the ground running, leading the fight to pass the most sweeping ethics reform in a generation. He reached across party lines to pass a law that helps keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists. And then he moved Congress and the president to give our wonderful wounded veterans the care and dignity they deserve.
You know, you can learn a lot about a man campaigning with him, debating him, seeing how he reacts under pressure. You learn about the strength of his mind, but even more importantly, you learn about the quality of his heart. I watched how Barack touched people, how he inspired them, and I realized he had tapped into the oldest belief in America: We don't have to accept a situation we cannot bear. We have the power to change it. And change it - and change it is exactly what Barack Obama will do. That's what he'll do for this country.
You know, John McCain is my friend, and I know you hear that phrase used all the time in politics. I mean it. John McCain is my friend. We've traveled the world together. It's a friendship that goes beyond politics. And the personal courage and heroism demonstrated by John still amazes me.
But I profoundly - I profoundly disagree with the direction that John wants to take the country, from Afghanistan (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Afghanistan) to Iraq (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Iraq). From Amtrak (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Amtrak) to veterans. You know, John thinks, John thinks that during the Bush years "we've made great economic progress." I think it's been abysmal. And in the Senate, John has voted with President Bush 95 percent of the time. And that is very hard to believe. And when John McCain proposes $200 billion in new tax breaks for corporate America, $1 billion alone for just eight of the largest companies, but no, none, no relief for 100 million American families, that's not change; that's more of the same.
(Yeah except for making the Bush Tax cuts PERMANENT AS WELL AS THE FOREMENTIONED TAX CUTS, WHICH WILL IN FACT HELP ALL AMERICANS! LOL)
Even today, as oil companies post the biggest profits in history - nearly a half trillion dollars in the last five years - John wants to give them another $4 billion in tax breaks
(Yes!! Continue to put forth the class warfare agenda and demonize success!!! This is the democratic mantra!)
That's not change, that's the same. And during the same time John voted again and again against incentives for renewable energy: solar, wind, biofuels. That's not change; that's more of the same. Millions of Americans have seen their jobs go offshore, yet John continues to support corporations that send them there.
(Yes, they do and they will even more in an Obama presidency to avoid EVEN HIGHER COSTS OF BUSINESS!!!! Drrrrrrr, drrr, drrrrr!)
That's not change. That's more of the same. He voted 19 times against raising minimum wage for people that are struggling just to make it to the next day.
(No kidding! You mean people aren't meant to support families on "minimum wage"? Really no shit! You think when you mandate companies pay higher wages just because, that it won't end up hurting the very people you are "helping" by increasing the cost of everything that they buy??)
That's not change. That's more of the same. And when he says to continue to spend $10 billion a month when the Iraqis have a surplus of nearly $80 billion, that's not change. That's more of the same.
The choice in this election is clear. These times require more than a good soldier. They require a wise leader. A leader who can change, change - the change that everybody knows we need. Barack Obama is going to deliver that change.
Because, I want to tell you, Barack Obama will reform our tax code.
(Yeah no kidding!)
He will cut taxes for 95 percent of the American people who draw a paycheck.
(That's awfully nice of him, since those people will need more than that to make up for the increase in ALL GOODS AND SERVICES provided by the "evil" coorporations that are going to be raped! So as long as his "Cult Followers" don't think for more than 2 seconds about it, it sounds like a great idea huh?)
That's the change we need. Barack Obama, Barack Obama will transform our economy by making alternative energy a national priority and in the process creating 5 million new jobs and finally, finally freeing us from the grip of foreign oil. That's the change we need.
Barack Obama knows that any country that outteaches us today will outcompete us tomorrow.
That's why he'll invest in the next generation of teachers and why he'll make college more affordable. That's the change we need. Barack Obama will bring down health care costs by $2,500 for the average family and at long last deliver affordable, accessible health care for every American. That's the change we need.
(Wrong, we do not need socialized medicine, too bad he wouldn't get more specific about this subject!)
Barack will put more cops on the street, put security back in social security and he'll never ever ever give up until we achieve equal pay for women. That's the change we need.
As we gather here tonight, our country is less secure and more isolated that it has been any time it has in recent history.
(Really? Less secure than it was during the 8 years of the Clinton era, when there were how many terrorist attacks against us that went unanswered and embolden our enemies? Hmmmm?)
The Bush foreign policy has dug us into a very deep hole, with very few friends to help us climb out. And for the last seven years, the administration has failed to face the biggest the biggest forces shaping this century.
(Does this guy post on cannabis.com? Obama must have convinced him that Iran is no big deal huh? Or he just "forgot" to mention them.)
The emergence of Russia (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Russia), China (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/China) and India (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/India)'s great powers, the spread of lethal weapons, the shortage of secure supplies of energy, food and water. The challenge of climate change and the resurgence of fundamentalism in Afghanistan and Pakistan (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Pakistan), the real central front in the war on terror.
Ladies and gentlemen, in recent years and in recent days we once again see the consequences of the neglect, of this neglect, of Russia challenging the very freedom of a new democratic country of Georgia (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Georgia). Barack and I will end that neglect.
(After we wait 3 days, talk to our advisors, decide the U.N. Sec Council should deal with it, then realize that Russia has veto power in the U.N. Sec Council, then after that just take McCain's position on the matter!)
We will hold Russia accountable for its action and we will help Georgia rebuild. I have been on the ground in Georgia, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and I can tell you in no uncertain terms, this administration's policy has been an abysmal failure. America cannot afford four more years of this failure.
And now, now, despite being complacent in the catastrophic foreign policy,(He's joking right? John McCain weighed in on this about 5 minutes after it happened, and then Barrack came around 3 days later and completely agreed with him, after he disagreed with him. Re-write recent history much?)
John McCain says Barack Obama, Barrack Obama is not ready to protect our national security. Now let me ask you this. Whose judgment do you trust? Should you trust the judgment of John McCain when he said only 3 years ago, "Afghanistan - we don't read about it anymore in the papers, because it succeeded"?
Or do you believe Barack Obama, who said a year ago, "We need to send two more combat battalions to Afghanistan"? (Don't forget invading Pakistan too!)
The fact of the matter is, al-Qaida (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Al+Qaeda) and the Taliban (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/The+Taliban) - the people who have actually attacked us on 9/11 - they've regrouped in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan and are plotting new attacks. And the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has echoed Barack's call for more troops and John McCain was wrong and Barack Obama was right. (What about the surge Mr. Biden? Who was right and wrong about that, refresh my memory?)
Should we trust John McCain's judgment? When he rejects, when he rejected talking with Iran (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Iran) and asked what is there to talk about? Or Barack Obama, who said we must talk and must make clear to Iran that it must change?
(Yeah they better get on board with this change thing huh? Good plan, go talk to them and let them know it's time to "change".
Now, after seven years of denial, even the Bush administration recognizes that we should talk to Iran because that's the best way to ensure our security.(Without pre-conditions right? Bush is headed over there to meet Alwhateverthefuck his name is one on one right?) Again and again John McCain has been wrong and Barack Obama has been right. Should we trust John McCain's judgment when he says, when he says that we can't have no timelines to withdraw our troops from Iraq, that we must say indefinitely? Or should we listen to Barack Obama, who says shift the responsibility to the Iraqis and set a time to bring our combat troops home? Now, after six long years, the administration and the Iraqi government are on the verge of setting a date to bring our troops home. John McCain was wrong and Barack Obama was right.
Again, again and again on the most important national security issues of our time, John McCain was wrong and Barack Obama has been proven right. Folks, remember when the world used to trust us, when they looked to us for leadership? With Barack Obama as our president, they'll look at us again. They'll trust us again and we'll be able to lead again. Folks, Jill and I are truly honored to join Michelle and Barack on this journey.
When I look at their young children, and when I look at my grandchildren, I realize why I'm here. I'm here for their future. I am here for everyone I grew up with in Scranton and Wilmington. I am here for the cops and firefighters, the teachers and assembly line workers, the folks whose lives are the very measure of whether the American dream endures.
Our greatest presidents, from Abraham Lincoln (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Abraham+Lincoln) to Franklin Roosevelt (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Franklin+D.+Roosevelt) to John Kennedy (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/John+Kennedy), they all challenged us to embrace change. Now, it's our responsibility to meet that challenge.
Millions of Americans have been knocked down. And this is the time as Americans, together, we get back up. Back up together. Our debt to our parents and grandparents too great, our obligation to our children is too sacred.
These are extraordinary times. This is an extraordinary election. The American people are ready. I'm ready. Barack is ready. This is his time. This is our time. This is America's time.
God bless America, and may God protect our troops! Thank you!

Hey I am from Salina, lived there for 26 years, as well as McPherson, and Great Bend. I was also a Realtor, and I know for a fact the avg. home value in El Dorado is not 18k. (More like 40-60K last I knew) Yes you are correct in stating that they do not spend nearly as much money per student, they also are not taxed to death either! The avg income is also significantly less as compared to Garden City NY, (40ishK as compared to 97ishK). I have to ask you though, if it is so bad there, then why don't you leave?:D
But I digress, you keep saying that the Dems "have a plan", so it that like a single all encompassing plan that addresses all of your concerns?:wtf: I posted Biden's speech, hoping you could show me where he addresses these points. I guess that probably isn't possible to do though since neither of the VP speeches goes into much detail. Since this thread isn't really about "specifically" what you are asking for, I will start a new one just for you. Be my co-author, and state specifically how Obama will address each of the points you have mentioned. I will be eagerly anticipating this debate! I will use your previous post as the template for each point to be addressed. Thanks! See you there!

I agree with ya on that.....so what walk was it that Obama has EVER done? Palin has "walked the walk" as the Governor of Alaska where she enjoys a 80% approval rating. Beats the current President, Congress, Senate and even the lil' lord Obama. The way it sounds she did it without as much as one "present" vote either.:lol5:

I think what many fail to realize is that dems and republicans have all become very similar in nature. In the end we are heading for socialism. Both parties will take us there.
The dems came out at thier convention with their Bush bashing about Iraq. Yet the dems are in control of congress and took control on the platform that they would get us out. All we got was more of the same. More funding for the war and nothing at all being done to put an end to it. They are all in this together dems and repubs.
Terrorism? Please, if you think the government can protect you then you are in for a big surprise. 3 trillion dollars spent on the war and we cant even find Bin Laden? Ok yea right.. The only reason for this war is to make the military industrial complex and big oil complex rich. Huge success there.
The fleecing of America has taken place right before our very eyes and all most Americans can do is ask for more. Makes me sick to be honest. 90% of America has no clue to what is really happening in this country and we are all being fed propaganda by the media. Cant blame them really, with taxes so high and the cost of living so high most people dont have the time to look at the real issues and what is really happening here.
With 10 trillion in debt and another 50-60 trillion in unfunded liabilities the system is doomed to fail. There is noone to borrow that money from? LOL..
Look for much higher inflation in the near future. Probably double digit next year. You think times are hard now wait until a year from now. The housing and credit crisis is just getting started. Forget what the media tells you, look at the real numbers and see for yourself. The media would tell you that housing sales are up year over year, the real numbers are that banks are buying their own foreclosures and those sales are being counted in those figures.. Yea looks good for a 20 second soundbite until you look a little deeper at the facts.
Bottom line is we are screwed no matter who gets in. Best place to put your money? Better stock up on food while you can still afford it. If you can grow your own then all the better.

McCain panicked and picked somebody had only met once before. It turns out she is just a gun-toting, anti-abortion, religious nut and ex-beaty queen. She has ruined several businesses and her experience consists of being a myor of a tiny town in Alaska. She's also in big-oil's pocket. Nice pick McCain.

I thought she did a pretty good job --- a lot better than I expected after having seen some of the other YouTube video posts of her looking like a total ding dong in previous speeches and interviews. She delivered the speech very well and got the crowd fired up.
The speech included a lot of attacks on Obama, which is to be expected at a convention. Often the role of the VP pick is to act as the attack dog, and she is defnitely up to that. There was some speculation as to wether Boden would have to go easy on her in the debates because it wouldn't look good beating up on a woman, but she's tough and definitely had the gloves off last night. Biden won't have to pull any punches --- he's free to skin her alive and gut her like a moose.
The speech was very short on specifics or even vague generalizations about what she and McCain would do. She also did not speak about her own personal agneda for things like making abortion illegal and teaching creationism in school. The speech was mostly about introducing herself, and getting a few digs in, and there is not enough time for real specifics, but one or two bits about what they plan to do would have been nice. Kush posted Palin's and Biden's speeches above. I've pulled from that text what I think they both said about what they plan to do:
Palin:
Senator McCain also promises to use the power of veto in defense of the public interest
Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more new-clear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative sources.
Kush also highlighted a list of taxes that Palin claims Obama would raise and he "infers" that McCain would do the opposite. Sorry, Dude --- you don't get to infer that someone would do the opposite and than claim it as a campaign promise.
So basically she promised vetos and pipelines. That's not much.
Biden:
Barack Obama will reform our tax code. He will cut taxes for 95 percent of the American people who draw a paycheck.
Barack Obama will transform our economy by making alternative energy a national priority and in the process creating 5 million new jobs and finally, finally freeing us from the grip of foreign oil.
Barack Obama knows that any country that outteaches us today will outcompete us tomorrow. That's why he'll invest in the next generation of teachers and why he'll make college more affordable.
Barack Obama will bring down health care costs by $2,500 for the average family and at long last deliver affordable, accessible health care for every American.
Barack will put more cops on the street, put security back in social security and he'll never ever ever give up until we achieve equal pay for women
We will hold Russia accountable for its action and we will help Georgia rebuild.
At the Democratic convention, it was Obama's speech that really layed out the Democratic plan and agenda. Hopefully McCain will do the same when he speaks tonight. Attacks are fine in politics, but you need more than that. Eventually they will have to say what they are going to do about specific issues. They haven't even touched on any of that yet.

i personally thought the Dem party's convention was a bit more mature.
Well I would not say the either convetion is really mature. That's not usually what these things are about. But I would say that the tone of the Democratic convention was a more upbeat a less negative, and it offerred more substance.
Democrats piled legitimate criticism on the failed Republican adminstration that we are almost finally rid of, and they offered specifics about what they plan to do differently from that failed adminstration.
The Republican convention has not addresssed the failed Republican policies of the past 8 years and has not offered anything new that they would do differently. They have spent most of thier time bashing Obama over what they FEAR he will do, not about what he has said he would do, and they have offered nothing of what they plan to do.

The policy differences between Obama and Edwards are not very big, because they are both Democrats and have a fairly similar platform. But the speeches were very different. Edwards theme all along was the "two Americas" theme. Obama does not play the class-war angle as much as Edwards -- he is more unifying. I don't think he beat Edwards because he is black, as you suggested.

I was not suggesting he beat Edwards because he was black. I suggested he won the nomination because of it. I only compared him to Edwards because their policies are almost identical even though their rhetoric is slightly different. So, my opinion is that the only difference between the two is color

Here's an example of one of the things I hate about political speeches. Palin is talking about having been a small-town mayor and says, "And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves." So at this point I'm thinking this is great, we will get to hear what she did as mayor. And then she says, "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities." Ooooh! Snap! That's a zinger! The thing is she never said "what the job invovles" like she said she was going to in the previous sentence...

I still think she's got potential. I don't like the bible thumping part but all candidates have to say they believe in god or they don't get elected. I don't think she's a very good speaker, but that will probably improve. I'd rather have her as the presidential candidate than McCain.

Sigh, it's funny how the trend is the right will jab at the left for not addressing things in their Convention.. in return the left jabs the right for the same thing.
Who cares. Like i said before the conventions are really just a bunch of people who like to pat themselves on the back for what a good job they think they've done. Wait for a real interview or debate and then decide.

I understand that the convention is not about specifics (althought it should at least paint in broad strokes what the party plans to do). I know it's a big cheerleading session mostly about firing up enthusiasm. My criticsism was not about not being specific enough in general. It was about how so often the speeches say things like, "And now I'm gonna tell you EXACTLY what I intened to do," and then in the next breath it's off to a joke or platitude without even pretending to follow up on the thing the told you they were going to talk about.
I'll tell you EXACTLY what I'm gonna do --- I'm gonna shake up Washington!
I'll tell you EXACTLY how I'm gonna do it --- I'm gonna stand up to the special interests!
I'll tell you EXACTLY why my plan is going to work --- my opponent favors the special interests!
I'll tell you EXACTLY why I'm the one who can do it --- because my record speaks for itself!
Palin is not the only one to do this, that's for sure. But I thought this piece in the Palin speech was a perfect example of that tactic. She knows we want to know what she did as mayor, so she says she is going to tell us. And then once she has our rapt attention, she just uses it as a slam at what Obama did before politics, and never tells us what she said she was going to tell us. Most people get caught up in the joke that they don't even know they have been bamboozled. I didn't even notice when I was watching. I just noticed it when rereading the text Kush posted.

The conventions have never been intended to hold speeches of substance. I didn't give the DNC too much crap over their speeches either. I'm waiting for October to come because that's when candidates really start to release more and more details of their intentions in specifics.
Conventions are made for "hype". Which is why I have a hard time getting into them or taking them seriously. I give both parties a free pass.. I consider this like their version of mardi gras. Just a bunch of mindless idiots gathering together to catch beads (feed their egos).
Now if only we could get some boobie action going.. that's a convention I'd be into

Damn it dragon!!! Left the door wide open and you just kind of half way walk through it! Jeez, you had the perfect shot at a Cheney joke and YOU BLEW IT!!! You are the liberal, you need to be the one to make the Cheney joke to complete the circle if you are going to take a shot at the current administration so that we can have "Boob and Dick Jokes" here in this thread about the first Republican woman VP!!! C'mon man!:D:D:D
See everyone, I am trying to "reach across the aisle" to work with a liberal and look what happens!:S2::S2::S2:

Historical Presidential Approval Ratings - End Of Term Plus Current Ratings (http://uspolitics.about.com/od/polls/l/bl_historical_approval.htm)
almost all the recent ones are between 40-60% which tells me on avg half of the country didnt like what the presidents did in their terms regardless of which party he was from!

Sorry I didn't bring my A Game to this. Let me have another try:
I certainly wish the Democrats had been able to lick Bush and Dick in the last election. Unfortunately that was not to be, and now they have been screwing us mercilessly ever since.
Now that Dick and Bush have termed out, the nation is faced with a choice between pair of boobs on one hand, and a pair of boobies on the other (accompanied by one very old man who seem intent to "reach across the aisle" to those very same boobies). Given Palin's speech last night, whoever we elect, it seems we are likely to get at least four balls out of it, assuming McCain didn't lose one in captivity. I just hope that however it turns out, we the people don't end up being made the asses.

Hahahahahahaha!
I had wondered why there were all the wierd spellings of "new-clear" in the Palin speech that Kush had posted. Like this one:
Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more new-clear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative sources.
It turns out that is how it was spelled in the actual official text as it was released to the press and as it ran on the teleprompter during the speech. In her earlier speech a week earlier she had pronounced it Geroge-Bush-style "nook-you-lar," so they spelled in phonetically for her in the speech so she wouldn't mispronounce it again. In her next speech, they'll probably spell Iran "eeeee-ron."

They do this for many people, news reporters and others as well. Reading from a teleprompter is difficult.

They may do this on the teleprompter all the time --- I don't know. But I think it is hilarious that it was released in the official text.
I thought Kush had maybe posted some altered transcript or maybe he had changed it himself for some reason I could not figure out. But then I heard that's the way they released it, and I thought it was funny.

Typical leftist reply "Republicans are dumb" every election since I was born this argument is put out.
Why won't BarryO put out his school records?
She must be smarter than the messiah since she actually made decisions instead of voting present. You may not agree with those decisions, but at least she had the balls to make them, you cannot say the same for the nutless messiah.

A bit off topic, but Republican related- do you know about these guys?-

I'm a Democrat but they were very nice to me (they didn't put me on their emailing list or hit me up for a donation) when I sent them my list. It wasn't totally altruistic of me- I believe they may be a positive, but possibly divisive, factor in the Republican Party. ;)

See not all Republicans are like Bush and all those other religious loons. REAL Republicans are Libertarians. And that means small government, which means the government minds it's own damn business and stays out of private affairs (like Marijuana for example).
I wish that people stopped making generalizations about "Republicans". Most Republicans I know are NOT religious in any way, are for gay marriage and are for a woman's right to do whatever she wants to with her body. Really only a small percentage of Republicans are the Bush/Cheney crowd.
Most are really Libertarians but choose to register as Republicans so they can vote in their state's primaries (they choose Republican because Republicans often run on similar Libertarian platforms, at least more than the Democrats). Most Republicans I know can't stand how their party is now. They want to start over and make it more Libertarian again, lke it is supposed to be.

Tell me about it, I have many people in the politics forum who hate me because they think that I stand with republicans. I'm actually pretty much libertarian as opposed to republican.
It's interesting to see how people start getting emotional and berating you when they think you affiliate yourself with a party.
It's a shame because if people actually looked at the things I said it would be obvious that I just want the government to mind their own business and stay out of our affairs. I don't want the government telling me what I can and can't do. I want them to provide me some basic public services, a military and maintain international relations as well as promote the free market. Aside from that just general criminal laws at the state level. I want more power to the states and less power to the federal level.
but everyone wants to label me a right wing religious zealot (yeah.. someone called me that once and I'm Agnostic.. hilarious).

Awesome!!!! Awesome post, I would rep you but I can't.:(
As I have said before, (jmo), not all republicans are conservative, not all conservatives are in bed with the religious right, most all the religious right are republicans though. See the problem. It is almost a requirement to pander to the religious right to get anywhere in politics as a conservative, or libertarian. Libertarianism and true conservatism are very very closely intertwined I believe. So many speak highly of libertarians here, I need to dedicate some time to more closely study this.
(I have nothing against religion at all. This is just an observation that I have made.)
