Hey guys,

This is my first post and my first aeroponics grow...

I have done some successful soil grows, and have decided to skip normal hydro due to some complications, and the fact I had the equipment I needed to use lying around the house.

Now I'm not sure whether this is true Aeroponics or a cross between it and Hydroponics... perhaps someone could enlighten me?

Basically what I am doing, is suspending the plant (using some wire) with majority of its roots in air, and the rest submerged in a nute solution. I have an air pump agitating the solution to keep it mixed.

I will try to get a pic as soon as i can.

I have heard that this way you don't need to keep the lights and pump etc on a timer going on and off all day, just keep it all on 18/6 cycle (apparently best for lowryder) everyday. Which is much more managable!

If anyone could tell me what exactly this method is called, whether i have got something wrong? or if you have any tips?

They would all be very welcome!

Cheers!

That is called bubbler bucket, or DWC. Nothing Aero about it. And you were misled, the lights on for 18/6 is just for veg, to get it to veg you will need to go to 12/12. And the pump needs to be 24/7.

Cheers herbie,

Is it not a hydro aero mix as the roots are nearly all out of the water?

Thanks for the tip on 24/7ing the pump.

Also, its lowryder so its an auto flowering strain.. so as much light as it can take I've heard...

also, I'll have pics later to show.. ;)

Cheers again!

Nope. Aero is basically raising the roots in a mist system. DWC is what you are doing. Or really a bubbler bucket because you are not creating a culture.

OK on the auto-flowering strain. I don't know anything about them. Post pics when you can!

Hey up herbie,

Yeah, I did a bit of research on the DWC thing... your dead right...!

More importantly though, both of the babies I germinated, did!

That was the day before yesterday, and their about 2-3cm tall now! I've got pics as well...

Take a look

My Setup - First Pic
This is the setup I'm using for my old Mother plant, and will use for my lowryders when they a little bigger...

My babies - Second & Third Pic
And here are is one of the two babies on day: 2 from germination...
And the other...

So for a bit of a lowdown in detail:

1. I put 2x Lowryder #2 seeds into a plastic, lightproof box. And placed it into an area warm and damp.

2. Waited 2 days, and my seeds had split, and were soon to germinate...

3. When they'd germinated I put them into a 50/50 coarse gravel and soil mix...

4. Watered once a day since then...

And thats it so far... although I'm really happy with my setup, and am expecting good results... but I expect that'll be my downfall now...lol

If you're going to use hydro you should root them in rooters or in rockwool.

listen to herbie Mc nabby the whole idea behind growin hydro is to cut out the soil.. use a plug or oasis cube or you can go 50% perlite and 50% vermiculite in the cup...I would suggest getting a lid for that bucket and transplanting that into a net pot set into the lid ..lightproof it as well, you want to keep the light out of the root zone
