First grow with cfls and bag seed

Well after months of filling my mind with knowledge while my lungs were filled with smoke. I'm finally goin to start growin just bag seed (piney sativa/indica stone :thumbsup:) right now untill i can get a good grasp on how things work.


Its been about 2 and half days since my baby sprouted its about an inch 1/2 under 24/7 light. soil is mg feeds plants up to 3months, temp stays around 73-80 theres a small fan constantly blowing.

I do have a few ?'s

1. How is the proper way to lst i know its supposed to have 4 or 5 sets of leaves but how do you tie it?

2. Is plant food anygood for mj, i am going to get some fox farm nutes but i was just wonderin bout the plantfood though?

I know i had a few more but i cant remember right now oh well, I'll post pics as soon as i find my camera.

Quick update another seed sprouted tuesday oh yeah i have them both under a 26w daylight cfl and a 23w cfl they are doin great wish i could find my camera though well happy growin everyone

The MG is considered pretty hot for starting seedlings. How big are your pots? Hopefully nice and small to start out. I'm not sure if plants can be too young to have their soil flushed... but that might help cool off the MG. You'd have to be really gentle though. Also, since it "feeds up to 3 months," and you are eventually getting Fox Farm nutrients... don't bother with that "plant food." Most of them are not appropriate for Cannabis anyway. You will only want to start using the FF when the nutrients have been used up in the pre-fertilized soil. Look up info and pics of what plants look like when they need a specific N-P-K. That way you won't burn your plants when you start the good stuff. (I used the Fox Farm trio and it is super user friendly :hippy:) 73-80F is a pretty good range to shoot for. Is the air re-circulating from the room or do you have a separate intake source for fresh air? And fans blowing in the room are good too.

I'm not sure about a minimum age for LST, but 4-5 nodes is a good one to shoot for. It's no longer a seedling, but a young plant in the vegetative state and can handle some manipulation. There are plenty of in-depth threads... actually:

That has a lot of good info and a few pics. It's really a simple way to improve your potential harvest. Perfect for the beginner who wants added budsites, but doesn't want to risk making a bad cut and stressing the plant... or worse :( You can really be pretty creative with the training. Especially with CFL's because you want to expose every spot to usable lumens. It's really IDEAL for it. Even if you only tie down the main cola... it helps. But be gentle!

P.S. You have probably read that CFL's should be placed only 2-3 inches above the plants... which is very true. They don't spit lumens out very far. BUT at this point, since they are so young, you don't have to have them very close at all. It doesn't need such intense light and it will also just dry up the soil faster. Just in case you got them sitting right on top of the cups.;)

Thanks TM1 i have them in some 16oz cups the air is re-circulating from the room with a small fan blowin in the box, the temp usually stays from 73-78 with a couple of 80's but not that long the hum. is 40 to 45%.

well heres an update, my first plant to sprout isnt doin so good :( i think its stopped growin cuz its been about 1 week since it sprouted and the second one is two days behind it, but it already caught up with it and now startin to pass it.

One seed per cup/pot. It's almost impossible to transplant two seedlings from one container. The whole purpose of the small cup, is to allow the seedling to become rootbound, before transplanting...:thumbsup: Two seedlings will get tangled up.

You are free to begin LST anytime, you don't have to wait until there's 4 or 5 sets of leaves. I usually start at 1.5 - 2 weeks. I usually screw some drywall screws into the rim of the pot, then use string or twist ties to pull the plant over & tie down with.

Skunk X Haze... Turned out male, but anyway...
First pics were taken when I first began LST, at about 2 weeks old or so. (more like 1.5 weeks.)
The next pics are what it looked like jst 7 days later, 3 weeks.
Final shots are 2 weeks later, at 4 weeks old.

whats up bro. i have a closet/cfl grow going on right now too. im pretty happy. its my first grow. remember not to over water, its better to under then over water. also, i know how it is on ur first grow. beiong souped, cant wait. but patience is everything man. check out my grow log, i cant find the link but its under just starting set up under indoor-growing. i learned alot through that log. good luck and keep us posted.

The one in the lil pot has made an amazing come back i thought it was gonnna die but now hows 5 sets of lil leaves


The one in the bigger pot has just started to show some more leaves so i'm happy wit the both of them, plus i found a 150w hps and ballast on evay for 70 ducks so cant wait to get that, also found out that the town i live in actually has two plant and feed stores and i've lived here all my life and i just found that out man i feel smart. :joint1:

The nutes i have is expert gardener 10-15-10 is that pretty good if so how do i know when my baby is hungry.


Also the temps with the lights on are in the upper 70's to the mid to upper 80's humidity is from the upper 30's to the mid to upper 40's


When the lights are off the temp goes down to the 60's with the humidity in the 70's is that fine

so my fan leaves on my runt have turned purple could this be the low 60's at lights out or just the strain?

ok now the bottom bud sites their stems are startin to turn purple anyone have their's turn that way?

I don't think there's anything wrong when it turns purple, at least I've never seen a problem with a purple plant. Probably just the strain.

You can keep picking the balls off and you may still be able to get some bud from the hermie. It's not always a loss. Just keep it on a regular schedule, keep picking the balls off, and make sure there are NO LIGHT LEAKS WHATSOEVER.

thanks for the info babyBR and i went ahead and threw away the hermie since i dont have that many cfls i figured i would just focus all the lights on the runt and its gettin there slowly but surly

man cant wait till thanksgiving i figure the runt should be close to being ready so i might pick out a sample and then enjoy my Thanksgiving with my family :jointsmile:

If the bag it came from wasn't purple than i think you might have a problem. Possible deficiency, micro nutrients. Could be the cold, not sure but i think the plants telling you theres something wrong. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

Not claiming to be an expert but if your plant is turning purple and the strain of bud you got the seed from ISN'T a purple plant, then you've got a problem. It could be a number of things, low temp in the grow-room are definately one thing that I've seen turn plants purple. Try keeping the temps., around 70-82, and humidity, under 50%. And see if that helps.

I think it is im about 99% sure i checked the temp this mornin and it was at 56 f the humidity was at 70 those are the night temps in the day the temps are at 75-85 f and the humidity at 37-44

i also noticed the very top fan leaves from under were slowly turning purple and i read some where thats p def so i uped the dosage and i got me some unsulfured molasses so hopefully that will help

plants defo go purple when cold and the cold stunts growth, and ive read in a grow book that if a plant pollinates its self (hermi) then the seeds r most likely female.

High temps during the day (85F), then low temps at night (60F), the plant thinks it is fall. Cold nights, hot days. Fall is when plants change colors. Therefore, your plant is purple due to the temps. As far as stunting the plants growth, I don't have that knowledge, but I don't doubt that it would...

You started started seedlings on 12/12?
you do understand that seedling are not like clones? Seedlings have a predetermined amount of time before they can go into flowering. For each is different.... but once they start sprouting uneven nodes is when they are ready. If you notice, when they first sprout, all the nodes are even, two right across from each other, but the older the plant gets, it will start sprouting single nodes.

well sorry for the delay folks but working 12 hours a day 7 days a week I really haven't had much time for anything.

I harvested my runt last monday all the trichs were milky sorry no pics but I get the internet back on wednesday.

as for the smoke report so far its a nice soaring head high n the taste is fruity wit a hint of skunk.

as for the weight I got 20 grams wet so I'm guessing 10 dry.
