Advice on new bud....

Not sure where this thread should go... but anyway...

I have never had the chance to look at buds under a magnifier until recently. It's really like a whole other world when you can view the plant at that level. The only bad part... now I am completely OCD when it comes to analyzing them. Through reading some threads and looking at pictures, I know what moldy bud should look like. I have never had the pleasure (?) of learning first hand.
Basically, I am writing this because I have worked myself into a panic after staring at this bud through a microscope. It taste skunky and smells great... especially after grinding it. It has a dark green/caramel complexion with darker accents on some leaves. It's perfectly dry... and I'm nervous to say... gets me really :stoned: There was one section that I examined which had small thread like hairs, but I couldn't tell if that was typical to see when viewing with magnification. I've since tried to find similar sections on other buds and have come up empty. Like I said, there is no real reason for me to suspect it of being mold/bud rot from first glance, minus the darker sections of leaves.
I found a picture online of supposed "medically obtained Marijuana" through Google image search. It looks almost identical to mine (which I just found a picture of from when I was testing a new camera. My Canon finally shit the bed after 5 years.) I'm just hoping someone can reassure me that I am being paranoid. I've been smoking this shit for a 2-3 weeks and feel normal (as normal as I can expect :stoned:) And while a return of product is possible... the timeframe of such exchange would render me med-less for weeks. Any input is appreciated.

I'm not sure what your're asking for?...M1..pictures of moldy bud? Are you looking at pistils(hairs)/trichomes/bud leaves?

I don't see anything in that pic, unusal...but, all my buds are always lime green..:thumbsup:..."anything that don't kill you, only makes you stronger"...:D

Doesn't look like rot. It just looks like maybe older bud that has been laying around for a couple months.

I guess what I'm really asking about is the dark sections of leaf. While the color is like a caramel... it isn't dirty brown town. It has also been seedless so far. After seeing pics of mold/bud rot... I'm just trying to make sure that dark grey/black leaves aren't a definitive sign of that. Those "thread like hairs" were just that... almost like a couple strands of a spiders web when viewed under a 60x. No way visible to the naked eye. I'd imagine that there are contaminates in most all the bud we get. It just seems odd that the first set of bud I get to look at under micro would have questionable characteristics.

So... if it smells like the chronic... tastes like the chronic... works like the chronic... looks like some frosty gold sensi... but has a few microscopic webby threads and some dark/black leaves... is it normal? Especially since that online photo looks similar to what I have... I'm guessing that dark leaves aren't a definite sign of mold/rot.

It's hard to think that after all this time and probably smoking over 15 lbs. of bud from some of the shadiest sources imaginable... that this would be the batch that makes me nervous. Haha. Honestly, if I didn't have a magnifier I would smoke this shit until I'm red in the face. It's since I've looked at it on a microscopic level that I ask myself "WTF am I smoking?"

What can I say... this is a very strange day for me. I could not relax until I examined the rest of the batch for signs of bud rot/mold. Let me just first say that my paranoia was not unwarranted. I found a bud with an obvious white patch... and while viewing under 100x I noticed dense web-like structures. I have this pit in my stomach. I'm pretty much considering it a total loss for the moment. Even though it is split between 3 bags... I refuse to pick through to find un-tainted material.

I'm at a loss here folks... I've been in this game for awhile and I've never felt quite like this. I feel confused... somewhat played... and to be honest, afraid. I'm thinking back to a couple thousand times that I smoked with a stranger and noticed an "off" tasting bud. Or when I was young and could care less what it looked like... if it smoked... it got smoked.

I have this pit in my stomach...

I honestly feel that my relationship with Cannabis has just been dramatically changed in the course of a few hours. I know that there is perfectly clean and delicious bud out there just waiting for me to enjoy... but for the moment I don't even feel safe smoking it unless I grew it. I feel like I'm going to fucking cry over here. I would have blindly ripped through these few ounces in a month or so... and then got more... and then more...

I'm too sick with other shit to be having panic attacks over the safety of my buds. Without this site... I would have never questioned a thing. Obviously once I reached that bud with visible mold I would have freaked... but that's IF I noticed it. I couldn't even see the other shit without the scope.

I don't know... all I can say is that I have ounces of bud that I refuse to smoke. I'm in a bad place here CannCom. For the first time in about 10-12 years I'm going to have to stop smoking. This shit wouldn't fucking happen if we had regulations behind all of this. I apologize if this rambles... but I'm kinda losing it over here.

I appreciate the responses, but please forgive me if I pass on the advice of "just smoking it." Especially after that ^ :wtf:
I don't need to give a smoke report, because I've BEEN smoking it... and yes it works. Just because huffing paint fucks you up doesn't mean you should do it.

Relaxing... taking deep breaths... and not worrying will not remove harmful material from my bud. I also don't see how microscopic mold is not a problem? What... should I just look for hockey puck size spores?

At this point... I am not asking whether or not I should smoke it. It's beyond that. I'm obviously the only person who can make that decision... and I did. I'm mainly so upset, because this is another one of the many pitfalls of prohibition. Decriminalize it... still arrest the fucking idiots that abuse it... and allow people to grow or place regulations on distribution services so we can put this fucking circus called the War on Drugs to BED!!!!! All I can think about are the people puffing away on potentially dangerous bud, because their source had no motivation to recall product. Also, encouraging other people to throw caution to the wind and smoke something they feel may be contaminated, is irresponsible to say the least.

I apologize if I seem a bit :mad: but I'm facing the harsh realization that these next few weeks are going to be filled with no sleep, pain, discomfort, and stress. With the many health problems I experience on a day to day basis (and the hundreds of dollars I need to spend per month on medication)... forgive me if I refuse to say "Oh well, it will be okay..."

If anyone has some educated info on mold contamination... feel free to post it. If some mold is present... does that mean the rest is affected also? Also wondering if black leaves are a definitive indicator of bud rot... or do some strains exhibit that naturally?

Like I said I have ran across some moldy buds in my day even 15 years ago tried the above mentioned childish expiriment.
No it does n0t make me happy to get moldy weed.

I am glad you have the option to return it, though I don't understand what the problem is ? Where I come from we do not have a return policy at the local weed dealer. We smoke what we can get.

If you're positive there is mold on your weed, get rid of it. There's no way to justify smoking moldy ganja to get high, and it certainly doesn't make sense to smoke it to feel better.

They picture of the bud looked ok too me.. Barring some kind of lung disorder I say that bud is fine to medicate.

post some more pictures, let the community see what you're seeing. i don't know much about moldy weed, or what it looks like - i've seen pictures, but never in real life - but im sure there are people here proficient enough to let you know what's what.

my boyfriend just bought an ounce, so i get what you mean when you say you feel a little played... isn't this substance suppost to bring out the best in people? it sucks when you get the short end of the stick, but it doesn't mean someone purposely sold you crap.

dont smoke the mold... u r getting some bacteria or some shit into your lungs!!

and learn a lesson:
ALWAYS look at the shit b4 accepting it... mold will not be on one or two nugs or leaves if it hits a badge or grow area... it will be visible in almost every single piece of bud, so a good/quick look under adequate light should do the job, light of a cell phone is good!

and learn a 2nd lesson
find and keep certified contacts, no randoms, no strangers, no just this 1 time to get bys...

too much risk like this, i have seen it happen in worse and bigger scale as well... lots of $$$ jacked, guy on highway with a beamer, takes off and exists @ night and the freakin ford focus couldnt even keep up with his bmw's dust!
and this was a guy who had good history on smaller amount of money involved for a few times b4...

I would certainly investigate with something to make sure the purple sides are mold... i mean, technically a good purple haze/mix of family could have this color in buds, but it looks to think of a siding and too dark of a color for a cured bud, so i would say its mold... 2ble check

Every time I look at buds under just a cheap mag I can see things like dust, lint, hair, dander, cloth fibres, just whatever usual shit just happens to be floating through the air and gets stuck to the sticky buds as they grow or dry.

With all the dust that can accumulate on buds, I wonder if dust mites are crawling all over them too...

If you smoke a dust mite can you chalk that one up to extra protein intake or is it just wasted?

Just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to the people that stopped by to give some advice. I really appreciate the understanding. It means a lot that people will come by and give an informative reply.

I'm not sure where the confusion has come in? I asked if web like strands and certain colors could represent some type contamination... and I get people saying "Yeah... you're cool... just smoke it."

Annyyway... it's not just the shit buds that I got that make me so angry. Let me say this too... I have already contacted the source. They have since gone through and identified if any other batches were fucked (they weren't). They found two more oz.'s with questionable characteristics. For all of you that don't have the opportunity to return or exchange bud... that sucks. If this were regulated we would all have that right. And this wasn't a shady... one time thing... this is my dude. This has been my dude... will hopefully always be my dude. When they tell me that they feel awful for what happened... not to worry... and they are going to make sure that nobody else has received similar product even if they have to drive to their house with a replacement bag... I have hope in this black market after all.

And I did check it out... but I can't be looking through every bud out of like a QP when people got shit to do and places to be. It smelled good... it tasted good... and it got worked. I'll say again... 3 of the z's I couldn't see any type of mold or rot with the naked eye (just the discoloration and just kinda "off" look) It wasn't until I got the the last sack and dug to the bottom that I found this nug (pic attached). Blatantly and obviously moldy...

Seriously... I have never encountered a strain like this. To many people... fuzzy... gold... skunky bud is a gooooood thing. I would have never thought twice until I was looking at pics of bud rot. Once I saw the dark/black leaves I knew I needed to look closer.

Thanks again to everyone that gave an educated opinion. Even those who weren't sure and wanted more info/pics. I like how you want to learn and not just say "Fuck it... blaze it up!!"

Just wanted to beat the shit out of this awful thread of death and loss...

After contemplating the possibility that I would be able to find some "clean" bud to smoke... debating... stressing.... I did some research on Mycelium. Ya know... those web-like threads I mentioned?

Yah... already informed other party and exchange/upgrade is in the works. I'm saying "fuck the bullshit" and opting for some over priced headies until the ladies finish up.

For the time being... I am researching cold butane extraction for honey oil as it is suggested for this type of "fucked up bud." I've obviously never done this before. How beginner friendly is it? I've read the sticky and other threads about it... but haven't really put my glasses on a READ it. Besides ventilation and protective gloves... are there any other precautions/negative results to this? I am probably going for the pen version at first to see how things go, but... if it seems like to much hassle... I'm changing my name to "S.O.L." :mad:
