One light isn't going to be a problem. 4 or 5 lights might get noticed.

Yeah ive always wondered if they could tell the difference in power between the 12/12 cycle. I guess it could be other things in your house but if they were looking for a reason I wonder if that could be one. I know that you would have to have more than one light to get any attention about the amount of power but i still always wonder about the cycle of it. Although now that im thinking about it, So many things go off and on in an average house each day on different days at different times so i think that would throw it of but im no electrician or meter reader so i have no idea...

But yeah one light dont worry

Im sure there are many more people with larger power fluctuations than switching one light from 24hrs to 12/12.. lmao

As has been said, I doubt one light will bring about any attention... as long as the windows aren't open ;)

And I'm pretty sure "they" can't plug something into the side of your house and tell what's plugged into the 3rd port of the powerstrip connected to the outlet in the upstairs back bedroom  Haha You never know though.
As long as nobody can see in, and it doesn't smell outside, it's pretty hard for them to think anything other than.... well, you're using electricity. Even if they can single out times of usage for specific outlets, it's not that suspect to have a major electrical device hooked through a timer. Even the 12/12 schedule isn't that strange. I've lived in areas that were hot hot hot... so I'd run the a/c 24 hours a day. After a few electric bills, not much income... and realizing I didn't need it on when I was sleeping :stoned:... I ran it through a timer from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. when it was hottest and I wanted to stay comfortable.

Aaaaand... I lived through bitter cold winters on the East and West coasts where I had to run space heaters during the night from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. when it was cold (and I DID need it on to sleep )

If they ever do ask you about all that... just use my story :hippy: Also, imagine if they actually HAVE done that to people using timers for a/c or heat. Haha. They report to the police that a pattern of usage is identified as 12/12... police get warrant to search residence... find saltwater fish tank :D Seriously, anybody ever seen a really ghetto fish tank? They'll have like 15 timers hooked up for that shit.

That's my thoughts on that I guess...

Yeah i know doing that with one light would not be possible but if you had a few lights all set to the schedule. Ive always thought that even if the amount of power doesnt set off alarms that with the power would. Remember though i have no idea how ANY of that works. I know some guy comes to check the meters every once in a while so if they do that wouldnt they have to come check it all the time or do they come for something else? Basically do they have a computer system where they could just check someones power usage right then or is that not possible? Any meter readers out there? Sorry if this is dumb i just really want to know if that could even be possible not that im worried it will happen to me or anyone else. Just a thought.

Yeah, you're fine with one light... And if you have a lot of lights, ~30-50, your electric bill will be so high, the power company most likely wouldn't be able to afford losing you

Now the cops have these heat-seeking helicopters, which imho are a blatant violation of the 4th amendment, as they are searching your house (thermally) without a warrant or just cause..

However, most courts today would not agree. Best of luck

There are many threads regarding this. If you could get them all at once, it would save you tons of time!!

I see, it says Canada, so assume you R there1 I read a few days ago where, I believe Stinky or one of the guys said: YOu don't want to leave a footprint on your roof. Like, all the snow melted from your heat. Doesn't sound like you are doing that.

I hope the Canadians chime in; like Naughty dreadz or some of those guys and gals! Nice to know in Canada! :hippy: PR

if u wanna stick with 1 light u may wanna supplement it with some cfls as well. yall think it helps? or it wont make much of a difference?

I would have non-auxiliary HID light hanging up there so it covers a broader area than what its enclosure dictates and some cfls on sides to help out

I don't know why some need to spend so much...here is a simple growing idea.. You could always grow outside...get 10-20 seeds, plant them somewhere very isolated, spread them out over a good distance, dig a little hole put some good soil and a wire fence up and come back 4-6 months later. Worst case, someone jacked one or a few died BUT Best case, you have some amazing bud and nature did 95% of the work and covered the electric bill for you! Or you could just veg inside for 6-9 weeks then put them outside so it's a 50/50 bill between you and nature.:D;):hippy:

If you're in colder year round climate then disregard

Use cfl's for veg and use a digital ballast for bloom, they even come with 220v that use very little power compared to a mag ballast. Cover the visual, stench and noise aspects and who is to say you don't have 2 deep freezers, elect stove, water heater, dryer, baseboard heaters...on and on..they all pull MAD amps. Cut back on all unnecessary usage and your gig should make up the diff.

If you are still worried, change all the regular light bulbs in your house to CFLs. This will cut your use enough to hide the grow lights sucking up the watts.

Do everything you can to bring your electric down. However when they came and busted me they said they checked my electric and it was high. I told them my electric had never even smoked any. LOL Then I ask how high was it. The answer I got was, it just went up and we checked. The fact is the electric company wants your bill as high as it can be. Some large homes run a thousand a month from pools , hottubs , sona's.

Bottom line is they don't check and the electric company is only losing that money if they tell the cops. How about winter heating ? Everytime we have a very cold winter you must be growing ? Or A/C ?

A 1000 watt light, A/C small, dehumidifier, air pumps, water pumps, intake and exhaust fans. All running are about 100 dollars to my bill.

The thing about helicopters is mostly BS. I for one don't want to waste A/C or heat which ever is needed so I insulate very well. Then they can see no extra heat from the air or ground. Yes they have inferred night scopes they carry around and can spot heat from the ground or the building next to you. So insulate well and it looks like no more than a hot tub at best.

The thing that got me was I broke the rule.

Never and I mean never show anyone your setup in person. When they get busted that's a warrant on you. It was my nephew that got me. We can talk about it and show pic's on here and even go to the park or beach or some one elses house and burn one and be safe. If you get busted it is because some one saw it in person. It's the only way to get a warrant, or you sell to some one.
