Anyone else not smoke with a lighter.

i never use one anymore. if i cant solar blast, smoke a joint, or vaporize i just get wooden matches and light the opposite end and use that to light my bowl. it makes your herb taste much better, and it burns slower.

does anyone else do this or have other methods of smoking without having to use butane.

i dont see why everybodys always hatin on butane? i never notice the taste, it has no bad effects in small ammounts (from what i know) and its much easier than using matches. I <3 my Bic!!!

It's definitely bad for you, whether you notice or not. Which you're probably not going to, so I guess if you don't care that's cool too.

But yeah, you can light with a wood burner... like from a craft store. They light bud really well, and they're great for use in special pieces because they create less ash. Less mess in nice pieces, or like bubblers which can be a pain to clean.

The other problem with lighters is they are a huge waste of plastic. They contribute heavily to the plastic found all over the world where it's not supposed to be. Check out Strange Days on Planet Earth, the documentary with Ed Norton if you want more on that.

Matches are great, but they can add an undesirable taste, depending on the match, age, and make sure all the igniter has burned off before inhaling. :)

So you just get the tip of the wood burner/etcher thingy hot, and touch it to the bud and smoke. :)

i had actually been developing the use of my magnifying glass for lighting bowls, i even found some cool tricks for lighting matches. When i start finding lighters everywhere, and ive never been one to turn down a found lighter.

i guess its karma, but a good kind, seeing as i dont mind lighters, but i was getting tired of losing them all the time, so as i was getting low i developed my skill, then i find about 4 lighters on the ground in the last week.

but no matter what, if there is any source of combustion wether it be through lighter or match it isnt the healtiest for you, though i will say that i actually find lighters to be healtier, because the flame is larger, yet your not getting tars and other combustion products of wood. Think about wood fires, you can't inhale that smoke without feeling pain, and all that is in butane is water and CO2 which are both atmospheric gases

It makes the full flavor of the herb and concentrates come out, I really can taste butane in my hits now w/ a lighter. You take off the soldering/metal parts and all that is left is a ceramic heat stick, you turn it on, within 40 seconds it's hot as fuck and ready to be used.

since I used to smoke cigars before anything else I still prefer the match, IF available, but they usually arent.

if im lightin a blunt or somethin with a lighter just make sure its lit before you puff on it. keep the flame far enough away to not set it on fire, but eventually get it hot enough that it burns, let it burn for a sec, blow on it a little if you gotta, sometimes then I take a super short drag that I dont inhale to make sure any lighter taste/fumes is out, then enjoy!

there is a pipe at my local head shop that has a magnifying glass attached to it that you can rotate and lift up and down, all on a glass piece. i thought it was sick and almost got it but ended up getting my DanK pipe. :rastasmoke:

Lately I've been smokin from a hookah which uses coal instead, very smooth hits and you don't have to relight it, mmmmmmmm :smokebong:

Otherwise I use a lighter cos I'm often outside smoking joints and to use anything but a lighter is usually a bit of a hassle - matches blow out and a vape isn't so portable

Yeah, I don't like using lighters. I usually use beeline and it makes the herbs taste so much better. Its basically hemp with beeswax and it is even fun to use. The only problem is that its really hard to find unless your in hawaii. Has anyone else tried beeline?

When possible the solar vape techniche is the best thing going.
I have a nice thick 3 in. diameter magnifying glass and I use my biggest
glass bowl. yummie.

When the sun is not available its matches all the way :)

I dont like using online because i dont like VISA ,MC, Discover, and AmEx to rule my life, though i have a debit card should i have too. But if i have to go online then i might as well search myself, though if you know any good bargins, please weigh in.

fortunately the next few days in my area are expected to be sunny and cool, so i plan on picking up some dank, and chinchillin outside all day on my days off.

yeah dude, me and my buddies got a million of the chilling phrases like that. But i never thought of hobby shops, i dont think wally world has any otherwise i probably would have picked one up out of personal interest long before now, but ill have to hit up the hobbytown, they have to have them i mean the little tiny models and figurines that people collect and build to the smallest degree cant be achieved or enjoied without magnifying glasses.

I used to have one of the plastic weird ones used for reading books that is wide and not round, and it actually got pretty hot in the focal point as well, but since it used spirals for magnifying power it never burnt anything, but i thought about trying.

yeah dude i tried one of those reading magnifying glasses, too. It didn't work though. I used a jewelers set of magnifying glasses, it's like three small one of different powers. The highest setting one worked alright, but i think i need something even stronger. It took a little longer to ignite than i had liked.

I use a lighter but not only the butane but you also get flint all over your bowl. Nasty stuff. When it's sunny I do use a magnifying glass, it really does burn slower and taste much better. Yaay for sun! :thumbsup:

so i tried the magnifying glass through and through, and decided that its cool, but not practical. Its really a skilled process, i tried it with 3 different magnifying glasses, a small plastic one, a half dome one, and a large glass one. The large glass one worked the best, and it really did taste better, the only problem was that while trying to concentrate on smoking it was hard to concentrate on focusing the light, i had to re-setup after every hit, and it was time consuming, though the high was much better. It would be good for maybe 2-3 people, only if they are skilled in the use of one. though another lighterless method i used also was the lighbulb vape and used a tealight, haha, not quite the same idea, but it worked well too.
