View Full Version : Hindu Kush, From Seed.

Hey all.

A friend of mine entrusted to me 5 Hindu Kush seeds from the Toronto 420 Seed Bank. 4/5 cracked within 24 hours and they are now resting comfortably in rapid rooter plugs in a warm, dark, humid area.

Nothing too interesting yet. But I wanted to start this log for the benefit of my friend (maybe i can get him to help keep this thing up to date.)

hopefully there'll be some fun in the near future.

thanks!

Hey i just had a quick question. If your buddy gave you the seeds and wants YOU to grow them, does he expect anything in return when the plants are done? The reason i ask is because a buddy of mine hooked me up with some seeds and im sure in a few weeks when its done he will ask for some. Being a nice guy and most likely having a good bit of bud i might hook him up with a little but after seeing all the money, time, energy and risk ive put in to this grow there is no way i think he deserves any just for giving me the seeds. I just wanted to know what your out look was on this and maybe anyone elses. Ill make a new thread if you think im thread jacking. Its just when i read this thread it got me thinking about it and it seems you might be in the same place im in.

Heres your answer: I'm the friend he's talking about, we have a growers co-op of 4 of us friends who split the price of seeds and grow them out for any of us to take clones from. I don't expect any bud because like you said he's the one putting all the effort into growing them. Plus I'll have my own clones. Another reason we started this co-op is so we all aren't growing the same strain, we have an agreement that we must trade up to an ounce of what we have with each other if so requested.

In your situation your friend doesn't deserve anything back from you imo.

Interesting, I will follow this one.
I have 2 HK in veg here riight now to get another strain into my grow. I will eventually add a third strain that as things seem now will be Strawberry Cough.

Good luck man and welcome. :)

Thats awesome man! I wish i had more friends around me growing so we could do that but for now its just me and limited strains... Im gonna keep my eyes on this one, I should be starting on the same strain but my package never quite made it

Yep. There you have it. An awesome co-op of friends makin' cool shit happen. that's why i love this plant.

Although i will say that i do have friends outside of the circle whose contributions have been minimal and they do expect free shit and don't deserve it, and that does wear on my nerves like a mother fucker.

Onward and upward!

How many people out there know you grow? seems like a healthy amount... p.s. Good luck on the grow. im interested to see how toronto 420 seeds work out

Well. There's the 4 of us that know, obviously. Outside of that there's a very small handful of people that know. Of those people only one wants in on the booty. I will say that I wish fewer people knew, but I'm pretty sure out of everyone mentioned here, Pete is the only one who knows the location.

I have a correction to make, the seeds were purchased at the toronto 420 seed bank but they were originally from Ontario's Best seed bank.

skeeter: nope killed the other ones.

And the winner is the RED seed!!! followed closely by BLUE. YELLOW should be poking it's head through in the next day or so. Can't tell what GREEN is doing.

Here's the pics.

Sorry. Greeny McBean didn't make it. Still no sign of Yellow poking through.

This may end up being a classic case of RED VS. BLUE.

Sorry to read about the green not making it - green is my favorite color strangely enough, go figure?

Your co-op sounds like an incredible idea and association of friends. I need to start a similar setup with a family member - just the 2 setups, but with different strains and exchange of same.

I've never heard a bad thing about HK, but then again I haven't really heard a bad thing about any named strain. I'm looking forward to watching the bean race.

Have you ever helped the seedling shed the remainder of its seed, and if so have you noticed any effects, good or bad, from it? I mistakenly pulled a bean off an extremely young seedling, thereby resulting in its death. However, once the seedlings are a bit older, such as yours, pulling the remaining cap off it seems to help it by allowing the cotyledons that extra bit of light. I haven't done any research, or search on the board for that matter, of the shedding of the shell. My guess is the bean shell must have some basic nutrients in it that if pulled off too early takes away vital nutrients?

Sorry for the long-winded post, but I saw red and blue in their battle to shed their shell, and wondered if you had any thoughts on this process.

Good luck with your grow, skeet! Be good out there!

I use a needle to get the cap off very gently the day after they are above ground if it wont fall off from itself. I'm sure it makes more harm than good if the leaves can't get light as soon as possible and the seedling can stand up normally.
Blue and red certainly would gain from it if they still look like that, it is very obvious they are still looking for light so help the leaves fold out. As for the others don't give up on them but at least try to help them. I had one HK that didn't come up normally and when i brushed some coco off the top it was trapped in the seed cap as well. I removed it gently with a needle and carefully helped the leaves open up a little bit and it took off fine.
I hope yours make it man

Yeah, i used the tip of my tweezers to help the shell off of the RED because it was just barely hanging on, just needed a little push. BLUE is still on there because i'd have to get in there pretty good and i don't want to piss it off. Hopefully it shakes it off a little more and i can free the beast within when i get home tonight.

No worries about long winded posts. Everyone of my posts is long winded.

thanks for all the interest, friends, it encourages me to keep up to date and do it all right because everyone's watching. haha.

I suggest u get it off the other one too though. Its a bit sticky but it will come off and u do want photosyntesis to start as soon as possible.

To simplify a bit plants are made up from carbon to a VERY big degree and that comes from the air. (CO2)

You might even go as far as saying that the (almost) sole purpouse of nutes in whatever form you give a plant is to make them more efficiently absorb carbon to make building blocks to grow. You wont hurt a plant by making this process starting as long as u don't physically hurt it and you wont on that one if u are careful, believe me.
Another thing is the longer it takes for it to get light ON the leaves the more it will stretch and exhaust its reserves to push up instead of developing.

alrighty.

Yellow was found rotting in it's shell...so we are down to red and blue.

I helped Blue shed the shell and stuck them under lights with their big sisters. Red seems to have stretched a bit, lets hope it doesn't cause any problems.

Now that they seem to be makin it happen, i might just do a weekly post unless something super exciting happens or something occurs to me. Daily posts just seem to drag it out longer than necessary.

and now...without any further adieu...Here...are your Hindu Kush Idols.

Skeet when did you get a t5? By the way in the issue of High Times that stinky is mentioned in they talk about a similar group of friends from our area that have there own cannabis cup. That would be fucking sick if we could do that, I might have a 5th for our co-op. A guy scootypuff and I work with, we also went to high school with him. Thats where the clone in soil you seen was from. He's very interested and another friend who is about to become a first time grower.

The risks of the wrong person getting to know about it goes up exponetially when you add people who knows something secret though. Double the crowd = 4 times the risk. Well known fact in military secret operations, organized crime (which that essentially is) etc. And that is if everyone is on the same risk level. Add a person or two that is a bit less reliable or uses a bit more unsafe location than the others and numbers skyrockets.
;)

Just from a mathematical standpoint. I like numbers but not when they are written before "...years in jail" though.

Puf I appreciate your advice! But I've given up on being paranoid about getting caught, what I'm doing is not wrong and I will not be ashamed about it. Besides I have a very small garden and where I'm from they don't hand out heavy jail sentences for things like this.

Skeet when did you get a t5?

It's a little desk lamp that i took from the office. it's a 24" single bulb. if you've seen my cloning area then you've seen the light i'm talking about, it's no big deal, not like your wonderful T5s.

I'll agree with you that i'm not ashamed of my grow, what we are doing is not wrong. I am however still cautious, I've worked pretty hard to get where i'm at with my house, job, and family and i'm not eager to give any of it up. i'm not so open about it anymore. trying to keep the list of "who knows" down to a minimum. I'm not worried about including new folks to mentor and share experience with. Like i said before, you are the only person who actually knows where my room is, and i RARELY have people over.

on a side note...my tenants are moving out in a couple weeks. Any interest in doing a room the size of my living room? haha (TOTALLY kidding...i can barely take care of the 4 girls i have now.)

Yeah i like my avatar too. It's a pic of my first successful clone. I always try to change it or update it but i'm too attached to that pic. Maybe one of these seedlings will give me something new.

peace
Skeet.

JACKIN' MY OWN THREAD: I'll make a separate thread for this later. I'm going to be messing around with SOG to see what it's all about and, hopefully, moving in that direction for future grows (stinky and her damn insistence on an efficient canopy...). I think i've got a pretty good grasp on most of it...the only thing i have not found a definitive answer on is how big the clones should be when they are put into flower. What's a good yield per plant in SOG? Does the attached pic have that potential if it were put into 12/12 right now?

Boy, you are a cutie! You did not have to insult Stinky. You not only insulted a MOD; you insulted the person that could, most likely help you the most!! Since you jacked, I'll follow! Stinky has helped and done more for Cannabis than you ever could! Her contribution to so many grow's, if you read them is over the top!! She is also, one of several very beloved Mod's on this site. I see the comment was ignored, but not forgotten. I read her advice before, subscribed, and now--I do not see one post from her! YOu had the Green Goddess and Royalty with honor visit your log and try to help! If you can't afford a canopy or for what ever reason, you could have explained it to her and she will help you then also! She will fit her suggestions to your needs and what you have avail. or good explainations!

If its the (stinky and her damn insistence on an efficient canopy...) that is ofc meant as:

"Damn that she opened my eyes to this truth so I have to try that as well. ;) " WITH a wink.

If it's something else I missed it and apologize.

ULTIMATE FAIL!!!!

Well...i went away for the holiday weekend and came back to find them shriveled and wilted. I gave them some more water and tried to nurse them back but i believe it is a lost cause at such a young age.

Sorry Pete. I'm taking the blame on this one.

Apparently three days is too long to leave seedlings in a dome with some water.

Thanks to all that followed for the brief journey.
When we get some more seeds i'll rev this back up.

Sorry for the disappointment.
