Um, YEAH. lololol. Get your shit outta the neighborhood!
And wait until LEO is on vacation or otherwise occupied before doing it, too!

well see, its just not that easy I have lived here for over a year and sunddenly I have to stop doing what I love. I have all bases covered and it
a a small grow. moving is just not an option. why me?
TurnyBright
08-14-2008, 03:24 PM
why me?
If the policeman next door knew he'd moved next to a cultivator of drugs, he would probably ask the same thing.
However, if it were me in the situation I would test the waters before totally giving up. As in, I would triple my security and paranoia, and never ever ever smoke weed in my house.
That's not my advice, it's just what I would do. My advice is to cut that shit out right away.

cut what out the growing or the smoking? I usuallysmoke in the garage , and they live down the hill and across the st. do u think he can smell it? Ive walked out to my car several times after tokin in the garage and can't smell nothing. but I do need to choose one or the other. because if they did smell it then one thing could led to another.

I would not stop my grow if I were you. Then again, I'm not you... I only grow outdoors because in my state the cops can take my house if they catch me growing and it isn't worth the risk. Plus they are kicking in the wrong door all the time in my city because people put fake addresses on probation paperwork and the cops actually get bad warrants.
Anyway, back to you... If I were you I would just make my grow extra stealth. From down the street I bet he couldn't smell it anyway. My upstairs neighbor (in a condo) grows (I think) and I can only smell it when I'm directly in front of my building near his air vent. If I walk 30 feet I can't smell a thing. But nonetheless I would go stealth by totally sealing my grow room and using multiple carbon filters on all the exhaust so as to greatly reduce the smell. I would also run another carbon filter just in the room itself. It would be time consuming and cost a few bucks, but that is what I would do. Once you had everything installed, it would be cheap to maintain. And the fans don't cost much to run.
As far as smoking, if you set up your grow room right you could always smoke in there. But if I were you I'd just keep burning in the garage. Again, if he were down the street he wouldn't smell a damn thing, most likely. You could throw a carbon filter in there if you wanted, too.

Yeah id be really freaked! Not sure if it would be enough for ME to shut down but yeah i would certainly give it some thought. Since your worried about the smell, do you have the proper filters put in to your exhaust system? If not, I would get them TODAY or shut down tonight! :(

the room is pretty much in order carbon filter, passive intake cooltube with a 400 hps. I've never had more than 2 ladies at a time but my system can hold 4. its not pepretual, just start to finish. my room is on the side facing his house. do u think flir can pick up my 400 watter. I vent into the attic. there house is probably 35 40 yards from mine down hill. right now the room is empty just have the lights on timer still so they kick on.

I doubt that you even have to worry about FLIR being used, and even so, one point of heat isn't proof of a grow op. Especially not the heat signature put out by a 400w. I would say do your thing, just be careful. And it always helps to be a bit jovial with new neighbors to preempt any premature suspicions or grudges.
Good luck, man.

Yes, keep the carbon running, my neighbor is a LEO and 20 feet away, I saw him sniffing the air one day as I was in the garage doing my thing, and I got so parranoid that I quit smoking and began only Vaporizing... you can hardly smell it!!
Then I went over stoned as could be and made friends with him! I now cut his lawn and he trades me pirated movies he steals from the internet!! (he's a hacker on the side it turns out) hahaha!
Turned out to be kinda cool....
Still would throw me under the bus if he found out I was a burner probably..
But think Vape! and you will not be so stinky... burning hydrocarbons, ya can't miss 'em if you don't smoke.

You should clear everything out, then invite him and his significant other over for a cook out. Then after everyone is full and fat and happy whip out a bowl and see if he partakes! If he does then he's probably down with your grow. :hippy:
Ok, maybe not but I think Atl01 really knows the answer to this the best. You know how big you're going, how far away the cop really is, is he a patrol officer or the worst and is on the anit-drug trafficing task force, the climate in the neighborhood (filled with a bunch of older retired people who never leave the house and gossip about that suspicious guy who keeps to himself that's up to no good or a younger neighborhood with lots of people visiting each other, stuff like that), what other things you are doing that may attract attention or whether other neighbors like you. I have a feeling you already know the answer to what you should do.
I don't know if I would but I have lived in a neighborhood with three coppers in it, one on the same street about 10 houses down. I never let that alter my lifestyle one way or the other but then again I wasn't growing.
If you continue it might not be a bad idea really to befreind the cop, get in on his good side, maybe give him a welcome to the neighborhood gift like a subscription to donut of the month club. :rastasmoke:
Edit: While I was writing this, yeyo posted a little story about how he broke bread with his neighbor and they're inching closer to checking out the police evidence room together! :D

Yeah fnatic has it right! Be friendly when you see him and talk to him like you would anyone else living around you. Dont let him start to think your keeping your distance because hes a cop. Think on the bright side, at least your house is a little safer with that cop car parked next door. I wouldnt stress to much, it sounds like you have it covered. I doubt he has a flir lying around and even if he did that could always be your laundry room or something along those lines but one things for sure if he did have a flir, hes not just going to single you out so dont give him any reason to. I donā??t think your in any more danger of a flir than you were before he moved in.

wow guys, thanks for all the great advice. I don't think I'll be inviting him over to my house any time soon, but dont mind throwing my hand up to wave when I see him. I talked to him once when they were looking at the house but didnt know he was a cop. he seemed like a pretty nice guy. I thought about taking him a basket of veggies from my garden or something. another thing I have working in my disadvantage is my full sleve on my left arm, but I know tons of people with tats who dont smoke. I'm sure I'm just being over paronid. oh and the vape idea is great any links to some decent ones.

Oh, I left this out. Looking into a house with FLIR or any other infrared system requires a warrant in the U.S. Anything that aides the naked eye (besides binoculars, telescope, etc) requires a warrant. Now some people will tell you that the cops are really out to get us and they will use the infrared without a warrant to find people then try to dig up enough legally obtained evidence to get a warrant and never mention the FLIR but I'm not so sure about that.

my room is right next to the hot water heater and one of the walls backs up to the garage which is always hot. so i think flir would get some weird readings if they did. stinky yes I have a very young child but do nothing mj related around her so that's not an issue.

He would still have no proof or atleast none that he could use. If he scanned you house he would be doing it as a citizen not a cop. Sure this would make him pissed and try to find other ways but just dont give him any.
Plus you really dont need to worry. Those machines cost a LOT of money and they are not the normal thing for a cop to have on a tool belt. The only way i could think he would be able to get his hands on one (other than buying his own) Would be to borrow from his department or one that has one and im sure to do that they would want to know what he needed it for. I dont think anyone is going to go threw this much trouble unless they already have a REAL reason to do so and i dont think tattoos will be that reason. I really have no idea but if i were in your position, these are the things i would be thinking about, if for nothing else atleast to calm myself down. You'll be alright just remember what everyone on here has said. Trust me worse things have happened

guys and girls. thanks for all the great advice. I poped some beans a few days ago and really been swetting bullets about starting them, but feel a little better now. also with a vaporizer how much smell is there, sure its less than smoking blunt?
SouthernGuerilla
08-14-2008, 10:32 PM
OK end the paranoia about smoking. I used to smoke joints, bowls, and every now and then a blunt while on the clock, when I worked for a law firm. I would also frequent the Sheriff's Departments and Courthouses. A little clear eyes for my red eyes and I was good to go.
If you're really paranoid about the smell, smoke next to a carbon filter. Have the smoke sucked into the carbon filter...

Yeah a vape will smell much less than a blunt. I use the herbalaire and it works great! I love it! but yeah if you really worried about it use the vape or a carbon filter. I wouldnt worry though, just leave your garage door down for a while after you smoke. With no open windows or doors it shouldnt take that long for the smell to dissipate then you can open the garage door without fear. Your all good man dont let him get to ya.

actually, you should be more worried about the noises your fans make. that's a tell tale sign of a grower.
check for light leaks outside, as well.
good job on the carbon filter!!!
just my honest opinion.

I have lived next to LEO and he had a house a little higher than mine. I worked with his wife. He said nothing and enjoyed my parties. He would not partake, but we smoked in the next room and he had to know it was going on. Plus, he was a NARC officer!!! That was about 1980 or so.
Take a nice basket of vegs and keep them coming! Get to know his wife. If he has children, it may be more of a problem.
If he has a city dog, that will say a lot.
THE MORE YOU KNOW ABOUT HE AND HIS FAMILY, THE BETTER CHOICE'S YOU WILL MAKE!
You have a great deal of excellent advice!
Keep vaping, taking it slow and make a decision based on knowledge and not fear! I've been to lots of parties with LEO's and they are not all the same! If they like you, they will protect you! His age and length on the force will have a bit to do with it as well. A lot get apathetic after years of fighting something and nothing happens, so they get curious instead of ruler of the street! I hate to say such a biased statement, but I've yet to meet a LEO that doesn't have his own secrets. Even if he is bringing another woman home in the afternoon, while his wife is at work! Due diligence--knowledge can be a very good weapon, if used correctly!
I'd be nervous, until I got to know them. I doubt I'd want to be BFF with him, but his wife and yours (if you have one) is a good way to set things up! Keep your yard nice and place up to compliment his. Don't draw attention with a lot of useless visits, either. He'll surely feel you have a guilty heart about something. Start out nice and neighborly! As you have!
If you can't decide, I'd move. Your guilty feelings will get you caught!:hippy:

cultivate and drugs is totally an oxymoron in my opinion
To the OP, have you ever been to jail? Did you like it? If you haven't, reconsider what's important to you..If it were me, my half ass American 'freedom' would be.

hey guys. my fans make no noise, the are insulated as is the entire room. my personal freedom! so I quit doing what I do, providing my self with fine homegrown herb, just because of a new neighbor. what I do In my home should no ones business but mine. I really think theres nothing to worry about, just wanted others opinions on the subject. I have never been to jail or in any trouble.

The do some from my experience, but it's not as strong a scent as if you smoked a joint, or probably even out of a glass pipe.

Image said it best! You are going to be his supplier! Like it or not.
Surely, he has checked out everyone in this hood before he moved there!
Like Stinky said, kids talk! That is what all the cops tell me. When out of town, don't tell a kid or they'll break in your house! Curiosity!
If you change your routine's--he will notice!
These guys can be human, I've been driving down a major public road and passing beer between corvette's with the LEO and we were all wasted! Many years ago, of course. Surely, the cops are getting inbred and now they do it on the FWY with the gals! pr :rastasmoke:

I have never been to jail or in any trouble.
That's the bad thing, is we're only free to do what they tell us we can do..even if we aren't hurting anybody..it doesn't matter..just make sure you keep a low profile and don't let anyone know what you're doing...all it takes is a small 'tip' and the DEA can run infra-red over your house, and they can do it anyways acting on an 'anonymous tip..' despite what the supreme court ruled

my experience, back in time, i used to have a friend who actually was "the man" for many ppl. he had a retired old officer right next to him,
and he was the type of guy who filed a court complaint against their household which was @ the end of a culd-e-sac for violating the rule of neighborhood which was not to have cars parked outside in the street
we would smoke in his yard right next to the guy's bathroom window (blurred - no air connection) and ppl would stop by at this place all the time.
not 1ce he got in trouble.
i think it comes down to what kind of guy the popo is and how many signs u show, this place had plenty of sign for the dumbest person and that was so many ppl coming and stopping by and leaving quickly
I would personally be freaked out if i had growing goin on in my place of LEO moved next door or something. they can have dogs or infra red scanners and some of them are just a-holes and dont have simplest regard for laws applicable to themselves. they are just out there to get u (not all of them, just some of them)
but again in place where i live, growing can have devastating results, like being charged with a felony with intent to distribute as far as im aware.
however, u could do 1 thing: switch to high emitting LEDs that are abundant on the net for sale and are not too expensive. i have heard great feedback on them but have not used them myself. that will make your heat signature 0!!
also its good to get to know the guy and get friendly with him, sometimes they can turn a blind eye if they get to know your personality. that depends on them tho.
