Seedsman white widow x 4 feminised, Wilma grow system

Hi guys just new to the site, firstly my friend has purchased a xl budbox tent 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m, 600w hps light system, carbon filter fan system and a 4 pot wilma flood and drain system. So far everything is setup perfect and the seeds have just been planted for germination in a unheated propagation tank (using nutrient soaked rockwool) which has been placed in warm cupboard above the water heating system.

The guy has done quite alot of backround research into this but wants to find out a further few questions.

Firstly once the seeds start to show signs of growth, when exactly should they be put under the hps light? he knows that this light is to strong for them at this stage but has heard that it is ok to use as long as its kept a good distance away, if anybody knows exactly how far it would be really helpful.

Hello.

First good luck with your grow and welcome here.
Why did u go with a Wilma 4 in a 1.2*1.2m tent? You could easilly used a Wilma 8 or even a 10. ;)

If you will only grow 4 plants then ScrOG or FIM them I would propose to get them bushy. Also with only one light you will need a very even canopy so put in some work to keep them evenly high later on.

You will want those plants to yeild a lot/plant if you only grow 4 and that will be hard with one light and 4 stretchy single stem plants lit by a single light. I have a bit of a problem with that here. I also grow WW, 5 of them and it is also my first grow. I FIMed one to see what happened and let 4 grow single stems and it is becoming a problem to light them evenly with one 600W HPS for me now.

As for light. You can start using the HPS already a few days after they are above ground and tbh you could use it from start as long as some care is taken.

If you want check in on my grow and download my Excel grow diary. It is updated now and then in posts and if u download the latest update I did to it you will have detailed day by day information from seed to start of 12/12 in it. I update those every week or so.

Nice setup you got going, the 4 pot wilma system came along as a special offer deal, depending on how good the first crop goes will be the decider if the guy is goin to go for the 8 pot.

yea alot of effort is going to be put into FIMing the plants as maximum yield is the aim :D. About the hps light on the seedlings, should i keep the light about 4 or 5 feet away from the propagator tank?

well heres the first pictures of the grow guys, the plants are about 16 days old now, just been transplanted to the wilma system and are growing very nice, had a bit of touble on the first day of moving them into the wilma system, a few of the leaves wer going yellow at the very edge, but once the light was moved further away everything seems to be going fine.

Looking good man.
Don't be too careful with the light though they can take as much as u can get them as long as you don't overheat them. The more u blast them the earlier the less they will stretch and you do want to keep these babies low, believe me. My WWs grew 1.5-2 inches a day from week 5-7 so you can imagine the scare I got. It is finally slowing down now. The FIM'd one (only did it on one of five) is growing in a much more decent speed and have 6 really nice main stems full of flowers.
Anyway, just nuke them as much as u safelly can with light.

Hey guys just a quick update, things are going perfect which is really weird for a first time grow lol the light was lowered puffzter and added a fan 2 days ago, since then the growth has been very rapid, heres a few pics.

Started off using formulex for the seedlings, when transplanted to the wilma system they got started on ionic grow at a CF level of 12-14, ionic bloom and boost will be used for the flowering stage.

I FIM'd mine after the 4th set of leaves and it turned out a beauty with 6 main stems growing looong buds.
In fact I have pictures from today posted of that plant in my log.

its now 22 days into veg, the bubbler arrived 2 days ago which took 2 weeks to arrive :mad: but everything seems to be going fine. i have 1 600w hps which covers the 4 pod wilma with no probs but not enough light is hitting the bubbler plant for it to grow to the size that would be desired so another 250w hps is in the post solely for the bubbler.

I have read that white widow grow to twice the size during the flowering period, does this apply to the height? the plants are growing in a 2m tall budbox by 1.2m wide, what height shud i veg them to?

They grow to more than twice the height. I kept mine under quite strict control and still they have gone to about 3 times the height they had when I switched to 12/12.
That includes stem bends etc. Uncontrolled it would'e been even more.

My FIM'd plant stopped at about 3 times the height with nothing done to them though.

the plants are 2 days into flowering now, been waitin nearly 2 weeks for the 250w light to come for the bubbler pot as it aint gettin as much light as it shud, the hydro store said there was a roblem with the delivery or somethin but it shud be here by the end of the week i hope. the two plants to the right of the 4 pod system are bigger and all plants are fimmed apart from the bubbler pot as it was transplanted late due to another long delivery.

To start off nice plants you have going:thumbsup:

I read over your log and I will answer some of the questions you have about W/W. I am a veteran grower of it and is one of my favorites:jointsmile:

White Widow will triple in size minimum from the day you go to 12/12. Meaning if you have plants 12'' tall on the day you go to 12/12 they will top out at 48'' around week 5.

When starting from seed I recommend using fluorescents for seedlings then you will want to bump it up to your 250 Watt HPS for the first part of veg. Then bring out the 600 watt for the last part of veg and flowering.

The only reason for this is to save money and energy. Putting seedlings under a 600 watt is wasting allot of light and energy. I use a simple Home Depot shop light with 6500k t-12 bulbs for cloning and seedlings, plus keep a fan on them for stem strength.

Yield per W/W plant? I grow in soil but am able to get hydro yields from my babies. Since you did not LST or FIM you are only going to get 1 main cola and many sub cola's. But since you are doing hydro I bet you will get a minimum of 2 oz. per plant to a max of 4 ounces per plant. Since this is your first grow I would put it at around 3 ounces per plant average.

Also one more Important Point W/W takes 10 to 11 weeks of flowering time to come to completion. Do not be tempted to harvest earlier.

Now I have some questions.

Did you take any clones before going to 12/12? What are our future grow plans?

hey jerry thanks for the post, yea for the nxt grow im gonna get myself a cfl for veg, im growing in a 2m high tent so i hope they dont get too big lol all the plants are fimmed apart from the one in the bubbler pot so is your estmate of 3 ounces per plant stil the same? i can see the 6 main stems comming from al 4 fimmed plants and they look good and thick, more so on the 2 bigger plants.
Well i go to amsterdam on the 24th so gonna stop by the seedbank and see what they have on offer, i was thinkin on somethin like nyc diesel or cheese as these are my favourite to smoke :rastasmoke:

Just back from my trip to amsterdam, got some seeds in fantaseeds, i was originally looking for powerplant after reading up about it, but the guy recommended seeds called kilo-watt which is a big yielding hindu kusk plant, so i opted for those, got 5 seeds for 45 euro all feminised.

hey guys havin some problems, come of the colas have growin too close to the lamps, and a few burnt leaf ends and on top bud burnt, i mended this by doin a few stem bends , do u think the burnt leave ends and the burnt bud end will affect them much?

just make sure they dont keep getting burned, im sure its fine, youll have a few burned leaves here and there but in the long run youll have better yield because your plants are gettin tons of light obviously. But just dont burn them to bad, u dont wanna burn them at all if possible.

2 days of flushing left, plants are looking good apart from the stretching, have to keep moving the buds around and putting extra fans in from stoping them burning. 2 of the buds have turned a brown colour, not just the pistils but the actual rest of the bud, is this the bud burning because of too much light?

Nice grow! Yes that bud burning is from too much heat from the light, that is also prime area for mold to form or fungus. Attracts bugs too, do some research for reassurance but I would chop em off; They aren't going to get any better

well plants are all harvested and dried and dam did i get a shock, firstly the buds that wer on the outside of the crop where there was less air circulation developed bud mold and rotted quite bad, i lost 3 ounces to bud rot, i watched 2 beautiful collas turn to grey mold infront of me :( the bud all dried within 5 days and is curing at the mo, i flushed it at 15-20% amber and got that nice head high and body stone, it really is a powerful smoke. the taste is ok at the mo but needs cured, but now for the really good bit:
Final dried weight : 22 ounces of bud + 3 ounces of partly molded bud wer i tried to salvage it (kept for hash or oil)
Really cant believe the result, the buds are nice and sticky and covered in thc. Shocking result for my first grow, heres the goodies:
