John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair with a novice filmmaker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.

Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.

Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby's birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.

A former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has said he was the father of the child.

Real class act.....his wife is battling cancer and he's out burying the balony pony. I don't expect to see this slime at the convention.

The MOTHER of all flip-flops.......I didn't have sex with that woman; I rode her like a cowboy!:s3:

Have a good one!:s4:

I try to steer clear from politics on this board, because I am usually exhausted by the time I get on here... and I certainly do not care who a politician is getting sloppy with (because I don't think they should give shit who I'm scrompin' ;)) However, I do understand the absolute importance of 100% honesty from someone who wants to help rule the G.D. world

BUT... with that said .... (and assuming the situation is black and white)

What a fucking piece of shit
It just makes you think about ALL the skeletons lurking in every other politicians closet.
I mean, we all have problems and regrets... but aren't these guys supposed to be better than us??? ;)

Well... i personally think that is wrong for the media to mix the candidates personal life with their political carrers... what really matters is if he/she is a good politician when it is in its office, working... what one does outside the office is no one else business...
Its the same thing... if youre a hard working person, who pays all your taxes, no one should bother you because you smoke weed in the privacy of your home, since it does not interfere with your work.

i agree.... i think less of him for lying to her and us but dont think pussy effects his job. My problem is that on a day when Russia and Georgia get into the mix...we put that in small caps while we scream about edwards gettin some on the side! WHO CARES!!!

I just re-read my post and I seem angry :wtf: and I don't think I really expressed myself clearly. :stoned:

I think he is a "piece of shit" for cheating on his wife. It is worse that she is dealing with a terminal illness. If he wanted to go elsewhere, he should have divorced his wife. Kids, public image, religion aside... you gotta act like a grown up.

If the dude down the block said he was cheating on his wife, even without her being sick, I would have said "Wow, you're a piece of shit." Haha :hippy: I got no problems with anyone jumping around getting wild with whatever... shit's ALL good... but just go through the proper procedures. Don't string people on, or go sneaking around like your 15.... riding bikes down side streets to see a jump off at 4am when you're like 40 years old :wtf:

Show the other person some respect and be honest. It's gonna be alright in the end :twocents:

I don't like much about Edwards, but his extramarital affairs are none of our business.

For those that say it doesn't matter or it isn't any of our business, are you aware that he paid her company $114,000 for 4 months of web production. If that is found to be excessive and coming from campaign contributions, does that bother you?

I don't like him any way because he made his money suing OB/GYN's and doctors in general and is just the biggest ambulance chaser around.

If I remember correctly, Elizabeth isn't going to make it so of course she's not going to leave him. Why bother herself with the burden and hassle when she's dying. I really, really, really feel sorry for her. She should spend all his money on a big around the world trip of sex and sin! Then put it on youtube!

When I first heard this I dismissed it, but now that I know:

PWN3D!

But seriously, this man is a scumbag. It's one thing to break the trust and bond of marriage. But to do this to your terminally ill wife!

AND break the law by paying the whore er' I mean mistress off with campaign money. (You know that baby is his)

There's fairly good evidence that Rielle Hunter's baby was fathered by one of Edwards' campaign aide workers, a man named Andrew Young (not the former congressman/mayor of Atlanta). Mr. Young, too, was married while he was fooling around with Ms. Hunter and, I think, still is. I want paternity tests just so it'll be settled and so the baby can know whose genes it has for health history reasons.

I agree that this whole situation stinks. I also think y'all who want to point the fingers too strongly in a partisan direction need to read the autobiographical work of John McCain, who has admitted he cheated on his first wife after she was disabled in a car accident, and New Gingrich, who did the same thing after his wife was diagnosed with cancer. Folks cheat on both sides of the aisle, and politics is fraught with those temptations.

I hope Elizabeth Edwards spends up a lot of her husband's money in the time she has left!!

My finger pointing is far less political and far more personal. I don't approve of McCain or Gingrich or anyone for that matter who would cheat on their wife. Cheating is scummy to begin with. I try to keep how I feel about politics and how I feel personally over a situation like this seperate. If I didn't then I probably be about 15-20x more disgusted with the politicians in power as I'm sure they've all had their dirty little sexual secrets.

I don't give a shit where he dips his wick, but he used campaign money to pay her. That is a FELONY and he should go to prison for it. Converting campaign money to personal use has sent several local politicians to prison here, and the dollar amounts were far smaller than this. Guard your asshole Mr. ambulance chaser.

The ones that cry "partisan politics" are the same that have NOTHING bad to say about their beloved Obama. Seems damn funny that the same ones in here that'll blast McCain on issues such as med-marijuana, anti-abortion, gay marriage are the ones accused of this.

Edwards is scum....if the lefts best arguement is "hey, look at McCain", well, it's pretty sad to say the least. Look at good ol' Kennedy, the killer of Chapaquitic, free slide and a hero of the left.

The only problem I have with this from a political standpoint is that he lied about the affair while he running in the primaries. Which is a huge deal, I don't mean to downplay it, but I have a much larger problem with this on a personal level.

I agree that people seem to be blowing this off as if it were no big deal, but had McCain had a recent affair during the election year I guarantee you would think the news media would string McCain up instantly.
