Equipment suggestions

I have been using a dugout since becomming reaquainted with herb. It is convinient in terms of being able to conceal/hide it but am concerned about waste. I'd like to get intoa small bong or water pipe but that makes transport difficult. I've never used, or even seen, a vaporizer. From what I've seen/read, looks like getting a small machine may be the best way to go. Am I right that you can keep herb in the thing and just use it as you need or do you need to load and unload for each use. Any suggestions/testimonials appreciated.
