I was watching the News this evening and they had a man that they were trying to bring in for questioning (He Could have killed Someone)... I was more interested on how they caught him. He was going on MYSPACE bragging how they could not catch him...
Well they did and it was from tracking his MYSPACE Acct. They narrowed it down to a 123 miles from his home original Location which was tracked by MYSPACE. Then they tracked him to the exact Address were he was then caught and arrested.
So Now I have a Little issue on how safe it really is to Post up any PICS on the site that may be "FUNNY";) I know you know what I mean. Would they have to ask CanCom for help? If so would it be given before tipping off the person of interest? I don't know I guess it just freaked me out... Just when you think you are safe technology takes another bite out of your Ass... I love it in some ways and hate it in others...
What are Your thoughts on safety of POSTS AND PICS?

I'm a network Engineer and I've worked for several large server hosting companies. On more than one occassion I've had to work with the FBI in order to monitor server traffic. If they determine they want a server they just confiscate it and walk out the front door.
So since the server logs your ip address it can be linked back to you and any pictures you've posted can be linked back to you also.
There are ways mask your system so that the IP address doesn't trace back to you but I am unsure of the legality of discussing this on a public forum. I can tell you it's not necessarily illegal but it is against many service providers EULA and therefore I'll keep it to myself.

Proxy servers.
Proxy servers are weak but part of the process. It is much more indepth than that.
Understand that the reason why I am not "throwing the man a bone" as Greenleaf said is because it is against EULA. Aside from that as a Network Engineer I have a slight ethical problem with helping people perform things I don't condone on my own Network. However I can empathize with him since he's a cannabis user.
I'm sure posting information that is going to break this agreement is probably against forum policies
If you spent 5-10 minutes picking out some key words from my original post and perform a google search you will find a world of information, but honestly much of it you may not be able to use as you have to have working background knowledge of the OSI model and Networking in general. Much of what is needed to be done requires re-framing of packets and re-encapsulation. I like to tunnel over an ssh connection to ensure my live data is encrypted and can't be seen.
I will tell you this. Proxy servers only give you 1 point of seperation. Meaning if they took cannabis.com's server, and saw your account and IP.. they could trace it back to the proxy server.. which in turn would hand over their logs.. and they could trace it back to you.
Good luck.

I think we're minor though, authorities probibly wouldn't waste their time looking at cannabis sites to find people to track down and charge, they probibly have bigger fish to fry... I think the only thing that would put you in danger is if you were over the top broadcasting illegal activities like that man was over myspace, but .. like they say.. always take precautions on the internet and remember nothing is ever really private, don't post something you wouldn't want visible to a whole lota people.
Take Care:thumbsup:

It's a little bit more involved than that... but yes they can.
