I have not a clue on the life cycle of cannabis ruderalis x sativa/indica strains. (Ruderalis = Auto flowering cannabis)
Growing cannabis from seed is like growing another other annual from seed.
You can toss the seeds out in a bare spot of dirt and put about 1/4 inch of dirt on top, water, and watch em grow.
General green thumb knowledge can and should be applied to cannabis. Do it! :p

If you want it to grow outside, you are better off starting it outside, as long as you can be pretty sure it won't get eaten or otherwise destroyed. The sun is a mighty powerful light, and it can harm a plant that isn't used to its spectrum. Starting it outdoors will ensure that it grows up accustomed to sunlight.

I much prefer direct sowing into pots rather than messing with starting indoors and moving them later and having to harden them off. Cannabis is a tough little plant and if you are worried about animals some mesh covering the pot can help.
With a tiny autoflowering plant like lowryder you want them to grow as fast as possible to get as much yield as possible and the key to that is too keep them growing as strongly as possibly . Transplanting and hardening off both reduce the growth rate (no big deal with plants that have a long period of vegetative growth) and that will mean less bud on any autoflowerer. Three gallon pots sound about right to me.
Good luck

Growing lowryder is basically idiot proof. Only thing that does bother them somewhat is insects that seem to eat on the leaves. For some reason, insects prefer to chomp on them as compared to other mj. Plant them in ground or pot and a couple of months they are ready to cut down....but you have probably done that by now and have flowers starting on them already. I have some diesel lowryer going now, seeded in pots on july 1. Males are 2 ft. tall, flowering full: females are a little shorter, flowering and should be done in about 3 weeks. Hoping they have more potency than the lowryder I grew for last couple of years. Have fun with them. Here on the 52nd autoflowering plants are appreciated and also used for crossing, to reduce finish times, on other strains.
