Anyone ever had a problem with getting all male plants? I have four and there are no pistils. They have been on 12/12 for almost a full week now and I do see the flowering growth but no pistils on any of them. This is the first time that I have had no pistils, I always assumed that typically 50% of what you grow will be male plants but last grow I had only 2 plants growing and they were both females. This time I believe I have all males.
Setup:
4 waterfarm systems
400 watt hps light
3x3 hydrohut mini
elf filter with 170 cfm fan

They are approximately 5 weeks old and I waited till they were 14" tall before changing to 12/12 and I never start seedlings at 12/12 cuz I want plenty of bud sites. they are from seed btw.

Ok a good rule of thumb is it can take anywhere from 7 -21 days before you actually see any real sign of pistles(hairs) and sometimes just a bit longer for the pollen sacs to show just be patient, don't jump the gun, Mother Nature is at work.:stoned::cool:

yeah it is just that my last batch showed pistils in like 3 days but then again I did let those veg for waaaay too long and they were like 3 feet tall when I switched them to bloom which might explain why they sexed faster I guess... I will post some pics in a little while :)

so, a420seeker, is it possible to have all males? or should I have at least 1 female in that group?

Anything is Possible Yet Most Likely,Unlikely
Time will tell IMO I have had plants show sacs sooner then pistols.. So if you are not seeing any signs of sacks you are in good shape.. I had to sex a few plants a month ago. Out of 6 I was lucky enough to get 50/50. My Last sexing took 2 weeks on day 11 me and a buddy checked them and I thought for sure #6 was a male and #3 was a female... I was wrong it was the opposite it showed on day 15....
I fucked up though I killed #6 and kept #3. I made over 100 clones in a EZ.. THANK GOD I checked them the next day and seen I made a huge mistake... I could not keep any 3 More Hrs of Cutting :jointsmile::jointsmile: Fucking to Stonned @ the time... LOL

Being that we are only human and not Gods, now way of being sure either way, just be patient man you have a 50/50 shot either way, believe me man I know how you are feeling I had 15 plants all germ at the same time 2 different bag seed, 7 from 1 and 8 from another I have 3 showing sex (F) and 1 I light poisoned to herm and feminize a seed crop for future experiments I needed some smoke so I pulled 4 of the plants to dry and smoke the rest are fine but still not showing sex as of yet and I'm past the 21 day mark as of 3 days ago and still no sign so I'm kind of in the same boat.:stoned:

These are the four that I have growing right now that I am concerned about .. there seem to be little ball clusters forming at the top of the back left one.:stoned:

Yes, it is possible. I just had 6 out of 6 male. now its back to the drawing board. supposedly great genetics too.

I have been growing this strand for the last 8 months, have no idea what it is, but I'm assuming that this is an indica plant but have no clue what strand. Does have nice crystals on the buds whenever it flowers.

Can you take a macro (close up) shot of the cluster you are speaking of? No doubt about the Indica part though, fat leaves are a sure sign of Indica dominance. I can't make out any clusters with these pics though.:stoned:

i can't take good close ups cuz of the camera i'm using spazzes out when put to close to an object :( but they look like little seed pod thingies with like clusters of 3 to 4 at top of plant.

I'll try with out 10 mp camera, I was using a 3 mp camera... in a few mins. I have been using the floranova series feed by the way. Thinkin of goin back to the basic 3 part gh flora series. I had the best harvest when I used the basic series.

You think I could make hash out of the trichomes on the males and if so... what is the cheapest easiest way to do it if you have any knowledge on that? I have heard of freezing the plant so that the trichomes fall off but I don't know for sure. :/

I personally don't have any knowledge of hash making with male plants. I always save all my stems and also my friends give me their stems and I make coldwater hash from them in a food processor then I continue shredding the stems to make a pulp and then I make paper from the pulp. As far as Hermie's go it has always been my experience that the female buds will show first before the male shows on the same plant, think about it for a second if the male shows first then the pollen will release before the buds produce hence no reproduction. The whole theory behind Herming is survival so female receptors must first be present.

You see... I had 2 hermies from my last set of seeds before this set but ...if I'm using the same seeds from the same plant batch... should I possibly always get hermies? Or is it more of a every now and then type ordeal? I went ahead and let the plants grow.. took seeds from them and harvested them since they did after all still have bud on them. And I'm using seeds from the same batch for the 4 plants I have growing right now.

You got me confused on that last question but no those are not hermies. Those are just males. If you got hermies before than its likely the mother was a hermie. Although usually you will get all female seeds with some carrying the hermie trait. I guess like 5% could be males.

some strains that ive grown have taken about 14 days to show sex i usually average around 7-10 days although ive had strains that showed sex one week before but yea it depends on veg time an strain but those do look male though judgin from those pictures

I believe that I see pollen sacs on every damn plant! I am gonna rip those bitches out this weekend and sadly have to start from seedling all over again. I already put some new seeds to "pop" for my new grow.... sadly another month will have to go by.

Yes that is what I am saying. I'm using seeds from the same batch of seeds that I had gotten hermies from before but this time I seem to have all males. I heard something about maybe soaking the seeds in aspirin or feeding aspirin to the plants during veg increases your chance of females... but who the hell knows. sheesh.

You may want to read this- a real "oldie but goodie"!
CARBOHYDRATE-NITROGEN RATIOS WITH RESPECT TO THE SEXUAL EXPRESSION OF HEMP (http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=439101)
Using the same seeds, the dude could get up to 65% females in one soil, or with different soil get up to 67% males! Think about it!
