Having issuses getting new seeds to start and cant figure out what I did wrong. the first time we tried we started 3 seeds (1 was a freebie when we bought some and 2 were just generic that we had been saving) and had 2 survive, 1 generic and 1 freebie. Those 2 have grown into a couple of monsters which have a couple more weeks left and have been trying to start more to replace them but so far have failed on every attempt. we germ the seeds in a paper towel and that works fine. I soak the rockwool cubes and drain. put seeds in rockwool when tap is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long put under dome and light and have a 80% sprout rate. from there it goes down hill. once they sprout dome comes off and give water when cube feels slightly dry and light. was thinking maybe had a temp problem (was about 90 in lower chamber when 82 in upper chamber) but made a few modifications to closet design and have temp about even now. Btw I have a Supercloset which I paid way to much for and dont think the pos is worth 300 bucks but oh well they got me. Just cant figure out why the first seeds took off and went like hell and now I cant keep a sprout alive for more than a few days. No nutes are given either and if I left anything out I'll try to fill in as I go. water is ph 6.0

Hmm sounds very strange, had your first lot grow ok and since then the all die when they're young, have you done anything differently?

Can you give some into on what's happening? You just say "it goes downhill", what specifically happens, wilting, stunted growth, discoloration etc? Pics would be helpful too.

the only thing I can see that was different from the very first set was the upper chamber didnt have anything in it yet so the main light wasnt being used as yet and I didnt have any heat build up in the lower chamber but have modified the cabinet to fix this prob. as for the "going down hill", they seem to sprout ok and actually get to be about 1 1/2 inches tall, can see the first set of true leaves just starting to emerge, then the top of the stem just below the head starts to get hard and turns darker in color. Finally, the top 1/2 inch of the stem gets hard as a rock and dried right out. Checked temp and moisture this morning, temp 81 degrees (just ending a 12 hour main light burn) and humidity at 58%. Cubes themselves were ready for a drink and gave a little water. Still no nutes and just plain old 6.0 water at room temp. Will have to read bout posting pics and hopefully have some up by later today (7/21). Thanks for any help that anyone can give. As you prob can tell I'm new to this and has been a HUGE learning exp so far.

You say the seedling gets very hard and dry, your temps and humidity sound ok so logically i'm thinking maybe it's not able to take up the water it needs? Is there enough moisture in your rockwool? I've never used rockwool but i remember seeing something on here about a few issues with it regarding it holding too much/little moisture.

Hopefully someone more qualified to help will be along soon ;)

In the meantime i'd double check your rockwool procedures (soaking, watering, ph etc) and see if you can spot something

Is a supercloset the same thing as a hydrohut?
Google 'hydrohut syndrome' and compare pics if you are growing in a store-bought plastic grow tent. I've never heard of a supercloset but it's not out of the question that there would be a knock-off of the HH kicking around, perhaps also made with parts tht have not finished offgassing.

Hey All,The supercloset it one of those metal wardrow cabs.Like the ones we had in school for teacher supply.When you set it up did you wash it down with 3%bleach and water?I dont like rockwool to start with,I had too many problems with them.I use Rapid rooter plugs.I have a 95% consistency rate with them.after they pop just mist them till they get two sets of leafs and then start riseing the dome off alittle each day.What lights are they under and how long?I looked at those cab and then builded mind.They wanted to much for that cab.Mind is less then $1100 bucks.I have a 400 watt light and flora tubes.It's a ebb&flood.Here's a pix of it. lights are 2 24" T12 fluoro tubes and cubes never dried completely out. I did soak them in 6.0 water before use and drained out excess. cabinet was clean and so far since the 1st success we have tried 10 seeds of which I have 2 cubes left, 1 has a sprout and other hasnt sprouted as yet, all others have died! :( Supercloset is basically a metal storage cabinet with a flood and drain system. will try pics tonite

trying to upload pics but from what I read I havn't been member/posting long enough. well it worked. the 2 shots of the cube is my sickly sprout and the other is of the 2 monsters in the cabinet. also just started clones last night and they seem good so far, stood up and picked up leaves over night.
