anyone got any tips to using this stuff?? i just got some ($ wow!) to treat the beginnings of 'root snot' (brown algae) in dwc. my res temps stay below 75*f. i got 16 days till final flush. im using FF tiger bloom,cal-mag+,EJ micro blast, cha-ching,sm-90. i stopped using the FF big bud cuz i felt it is feeding the algae( its organic). i have flushed the res and refilled with ro water, cal-mag, flora shield. my res' r totally light proof and temps never get over 82*f. i have ruled out 'root rot', i've dealt with that before, this is a different beast. it starts out like clearish snot, then progresses into some brown blob that eats roots. my Q's r; can i run RE(roots excelurator) in my standard nutrient solutions as a preventative in the future? in my next step, should i run RE with plain RO water? how long? any tips, q's, help is welcomed, iwill add some pics after lights come on if need be. i got the problem figured out, just mainly looking for info on this RE stuff. thanks in advance, u all r d best!!

Here's a link about res snot!
International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - Strange Slime buildup on roots (http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=55259)
Ew. If it 'eats roots' you've got a problem big time. Either way, it does block them from exchanging gases, moisture, and nutes. You'll want to do a real good res cleaning after you harvest.
You ever consider a 'zyme?

thanx for the response, it doesn't 'eat roots',just an exageration. i applied RE last night, already looking better in the res. i've done 10+ runs in this res, i think i'll replace it for the next grow. everything will get a bleach solution scrubbing. thanx 4 link stinkster.any other ideas any one? if i use a 'zyme, won't the sm90 kill it? i love sm90 it prevents 'bot' and helps prevent insect infestations. if ican just add a lil RE to the nut solution, thats what i think i want. sorry so rambling, trying to write fast b4 work. thanx again, talk to y'all soon.:bigsmoke:

I have had the identical issue that killed many seedlings I had germed. It looked exactly like snot and I tried cleaning the res carefully and it comes back. I had a heat and poor aeration issues with my hydro setups, so I solved my heat and air issues and am waiting for GH Subculture packets to arrive and I ordered a bottle of Physan 20. How gross?! And the smell was NASTY! Thanks to all on the board for helping me get to the bottom of this issue. What a costly way to learn, but I guess that is a great lesson!!

I think Physan and SubCulture are fully incompatible. I'm not sure though- worth checking into. Otherwise you're wasting your $$$.

Thanks, great insight Stinky! You know so much this subject you could start your own University! I will check to see if they are incompatible.

Hey there, I ordered Physan 20 to disinfect my equipment that was in algae affected res, and I have been trying to find if it would be incompatible with the Subculture that I have ordered. I can't find an answer so far! Also, do you think that I should order Hygrozyme too? My algae was caused when I closed my closet doors with 5 65 watt CFLS on in each closet at night on
my two DWC hydro set ups. Also, I had poor aeration in a huge res in one (one 8" bubble stone in an 18 gal res!!), and the same in a smaller res (8 gallons). I know, what an idiot! Perfect conditions for that stuff which attached to my roots and killed my seedlings. Right now, I have 5 G13 Ice seedlings, 9 G13 Power Skunk seedlings, 1 female Nirvana Snow White seedling, and 4 surviving Lowlife AK 47 x Hindu Kush seedlings that were transplanted from the algae infected hydro set up into a smaller set up that I will be using for now. Note that these two current setups have optimal conditions ( ph 5.8, two airstones per 4 gallon res, and are being grown in a 31.5" x31.5" x 63" homebox. I leave my closet door open and they homebox front is unzipped for circulation. Air temps are around 65-70 in there. I want to transfer some of the seedlings to the larger 8 gallon res in a couple of weeks after I have sterilized the algae infected equipment! Sorry this is like a long book, but I know that the more info I give, the better the reply! Thanks Professor of Plant Growth!

Noooooo!!!! Oh please no! The bulk of my career has been spent in academia in one place or another... and I have no desire to return! hahaha
Well, unless someone gave me a free ride including mortgage payments to go back for horticulture- THAT would be bad ass.
So dude. I Googled 'physan subculture' and what did I find, but a link to a great post by our very own resident garden chemical guru....

He claims it will KILL your septic tank flora if flushed- that means it will do the same for beneficials in other systems.
Also not labelled for food and drug use.
Sounds like a last-ditch defense.

Sorry i just now saw this thread. Very expensive stuff but the BEST I'm told for treating root rot.
How did it work for you?

Hey Stinky! That thread makes sense. I was dealing with an environment that was way too warm at night (85 to 90 degrees for 3-4 days in a row) and compounded that with poor aeration. Luckily I only ordered a small bottle of Physan 20 and I will only use it to clean my grow area and with a super light mixture. Currently I have 6 CFLs in my homebox and it is a cool 70 degrees. I should be getting my subculture Monday. My seedlings are healthy and no algae or mold to speak of (I will keep my fingers crossed!).
It seems common for people to overdue it in trying to fix a plant problem, but all seems to work out if those basics all of you stress as important are taken care of.
Thank you for the quick responses everyone!

it worked great!! i did the original flush as stated above, 2days later i changed out the res again, added the same chem mix, and changed out res to a flora-kleen solution for final flush 2 days after that. initially when i used the RE, the roots looked feathery and water was cloudy. one day after first dose of RE the roots and water cleaned up considerably. after second dose, visually everything looked 90% better, so i flushed to finish my crop. i think in the future, RE will be going in my mix every time as a prventative. i used the RE 1ml/gallon. as a preventataive measure i think i'll use 1/2ml/gallon.hope this helps everyone fight/prevent the 'root snot monster' Brown Algae. still don't know exactly what caused this stuff, i have a clean grow, no light to res, temps r little warm but not much. i can honestly say that Roots Excelurator is an awesome product, and is worth every penny.
p.s. Weedhound, i enjoy your contributions to this forum and keep up the good work!

hey Happy Camper
Are you talkin about the Roots Excelurator from VAN DE ZWAAN (in the aluminum cannister) if so, I too use this product, expensive as hell but worth every penny...
I used their hydro line and feeding shedule for my first try at hydro with excellent results, in a far less than perfect environment. while the plants I had in soil without the Van de ZWan/house and garden line didn't manage as well as the the ones with. You can find their recomendations on the roots exceluator and other products on thier website...
They recomend using 1.1ml per gal. of water through veg and 3 weeks into flowering on their feeding schedule...check it out on their website it's cool you just type in your reservoir size in gallons and each of the products change for your your specific grow...
And if you haven't yet found their product called SHOOTING POWDER I'd suggest you all find it, buy it, try it, and you'll love it...
just my 2 honest Abe's

Have you heard of ORGANICS XL from the ROOTS ORGANICS line from AURORA INNOVATIONS. I started a thread on it but don't think anybody's seen it. I tried this product with my last grow and I won't do another without it. it's a beneficial bacteria for the roots and DAMN do they explode... I would also like to try their nut's for hydro too ...
Just wondering if you or any of the others have tried this stuff.
Sorry don't mean to threadjack

Wus up HC
I haven't tried anything but ORGANISM XL from AURORA INNOV. it's a blend of 6 endo/ecto mycorrhizae species, 2 trichoderma, 13 strains of beneficial bacteria upon other stuff... I buy it locally in nor cal 530... The owner of the hydro store I buy from say's to use the ORGANISM XL and the RE together... Which I did with explosive results... But I have to give it to the nutrients I used which was the HOUSE AND GARDEN line from the makers of ROOTS EXCELURATOR... I followed the feeding schedule on their website... Thats shit is great, exspensive as hell but great...
The guy at the hydro store uses it and swaers by it, he sold me on it, with no regrets from me... He has a buddy that grows and has been using the RE for awhile and he just switched to the ORG. XL and he say's he's not going back, same results far less price. So now I'm looking into their product line for hydro nutients... you can find them both online or check locally. I'm sure there is a place in your neck of the hood that will carry them... I was born in Anaheim what a cowinky-dink

whats up? i finished that run of OG x Bubba. i included a pic of a couple nugs cured for about 42 days. turned out nice, frosty, tasty... i've run this strain about 6 times, this time i don't think the buds swelled as much as usual. most likely cuz of bad timing for 'root snot attack'. but all turned out well. after using up my nuts i plan to try some of the stuff you mentioned. sounds great from you and what i've read... right now i've got a Chimera Calizahr going outdo' it started inside and had some probs early on. now this thing is beautiful. i got a thread on it here under mutant calizahr or something like that. i also just put a few of Joey Weed's Bluberrry X ak47 cuttings in my new tub set-up. thought it best to just build a new bubbler. upgraded a little, i now have a ton of air and movement down there. i had 3/4 ton of air b4!! this bbak pheno is real sativa-like, so i've tied them down and 12/12'd 'em 1 week after roots showed. that's about it, besides a couple of projects for l8r on down the road... how 'bout you, got some pics to show??
