Well, I'll be going back up to school this fall, and I'm going to have my own apartment (in a 3 story house with other ppl, but my 1/4 is just me). I will have a living room/kitchen/bedroom and most importantly... a GUEST bedroom. My buddy just mentioned these things called "grow boxes" - accompanied by a hefty price. What do you guys think I should do with the spare room? I want to keep electricity down, but I want to produce quantity of high quality pretty much non-stop. Not saying I want 100 plants or anything, but I want to be able to have a good enough bit for me and my housemates to chill off of in-between harvests. I googled 'grow box' and came up with this first: Discount Hydroponics | Hydroponic Grow Box Systems | Hydroponics (http://www.homegrown-hydroponics.com/)
Is this website reliable? I like the idea of a grow box A LOT because I can move it easily, I also suck ass at building stuff, and it seems fairly inconspicuous. There was something on there about one grow box having a 25-3 rotation, with 3 mother plants and 25 clones(?) I suppose? Basically, I don't know where to even look, altho I have ordered some highly recommended books (both Bibles and a cervantes one). Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

I also saw this site... Hydroponics : Hydroponics Systems (http://www.4eversun.com/turn_key_units.htm)
is that the same "sun" company that I saw mentioned on here a ways back... something like sun.ca or so? I'm basically just looking for a reputable in order to spend this fat wad of cash... jesus. I just don't think that if I did one myself it would be nearly as good :( and I want to be able to move it back home when I come back.

Sorry if this seems like post-whoring, but I can't find the damn edit button and I've never used these boards = /
Can a DIY of something like Hydroponic cabinets and hydroponic systems from Supercloset (http://www.supercloset.com/proddetail.asp?prod=supercloset001) really eliminate odor as well as the retail version? I'm going to be living with others... and they'll probably know about it, but I don't want someone to be able to walk into my place and know that something is growing because it reeks = not looking too get robbed. Sorry if my questions are retarded, the idea was just sprung on me tonight and I've never really considered it before. Thanks for any help

Don't bother..
Don't bother what? Growing? Getting a grow-box? Why shouldn't I do either? Do you know anything about grow boxes?

Yes I do know about grow boxes. I built my own grow box and have ran a 6 week perpetual harvest for the last year.
People will know you have a grow box.
There will be odour and you really need to manage it effectively.
A college house and you expect no one to find out about it. (Rule#1 in those grow books you ordered).
I would expect that with much reading you will be able to grow decently. My "don't bother" is a statement meant to discourage. You are risking a lot.
I didn't watch the whole grow box video but I'd expect that they are quite expensive. For the cost of this box you could pay 1/2 of your tuition.
On the other hand if you are gangbusters and really want to risk everything, don't get the box, pick up 4 600W HPS convertable to run both halide and hps, pick up 2 500CFM extraction fans, 4 oscilating fans and 4 carbon filters. set up 2 4 x 8 tables and pick up 50 5 gal buckets. Read those books cover to cover like you would a textbook and study.

I thought grow boxes were supposed too help minimize odor, or is that ever possible? The ppl I'm living with and the college I goto make it about as least sketch as possible to be growing in a house... and I'm no stranger to sketch environments... up there it's fucking fairy tail land compared to where I live.
One thing I was concerned about was the electrical cost of all that equipment you recommend. Do certain grow boxes have a potentially lower power usage than DIY? I only have access too 1 small meter, not the whole house's worth of electricity. Like I said before, I'm also not very good at engineering or building things, but I can learn something and make it probably

you only have 1 meter of room? the electricity you pull has nothing to do with the size of your space. how much physical space do you have? how much money do you want to invest? how much electricity do you want to use? is your room private?
definately do something about the smell. it's a minimal investment for your setup. don't skimp on the things that can help you NOT get busted! the box would have to be air tight to contain the smell. even then your gonna have to open it.

Well I say you should go for it. sounds like a great opportunity and grow boxes really do help control the odor. But definitely don't buy one, make one yourself. Tmoney might have intimidated you with all the equipment he told you to buy, (4 600W HPS convertable to run both halide and hps, 2 500CFM extraction fans, 4 oscilating fans, 4 carbon filters) but you really don't need any expensive equipment. I built my grow box out of old bookshelf wood that I found in my basement, and built a lil hydroponic system into it. the whole thing cost me less than 60 bucks. Well the wood was free, but besides that all I needed were two CFL's (those are the compact fluorescents they sell everywhere to replace regular incandescent bulbs, they cost like 4 bucks each), a 20 dollar water pump, some vinyl tubing, a couple electric timers, and some silicone gel (to seal the holes), all of which you can buy at lowes or home depot. The other stuff like the rock wool and hydroton is also very cheap, but a little harder to find. But you won't even have to worry about that if you're just growing in soil. But yea I say go for it, and definitely build it yourself, itll be a fun project if anything
Im including a few pics of mine, taken before I started growing anything. Mine is tiny, made for only one plant, but making a bigger one shouldn't be too hard. Same basic principles.
