I have heard that cedar is a natural way of ridding a plant of bug problems? Just lay on top of soil around the base of the plant and the cedar has some natural chemical in it that detures most bugs.
I was wondering if anyone has tried or heard of this. I would like to try it if anyone thinks its a good idea. Also I was thinking that it is a good way to retain moisture?
Any thoughts or input on this?:D

Umm, I'd say "some bugs", but not most.
Yep, that's how cedar closets in older homes work- cedar repels, in particular, moths.

Ah yes, Thank You rhizome! I will go ahead and put a little on the top of my soil and see what affects the cedar has on fruit flies and other kindsa bugs. I dont think it will hurt my plant any?... Do You?

Id' avoid putting any type of pine shavings in contact with your soil.
Do as in a closet, and hang pieces of cedar from strings in among your plants instead!
