Male or Female

Hello to everyone,

First time here, just have a question regarding the sex of the plants. I have 3 here that are in the flowering stages, about 24" tall. From what I can see on them I am scared to say they look like males. My question is that being as though they have only been in this flowering phase for not even a week is it too early to tell? Do the females have little sacs that develop at the nodes also? Like before the pistils come out?

Wishful thinking friend, but no. The females have hairs growing at the nodes, and males as you would think, have the sacs.

yeah, sorry dude, def sounds like males. i had to cut down a big male my first grow, so i know the heartbreak and and frustration that brings, but you're better off just killin it off and gettin a new one going in it's place. the females will almost always have telltale white hairs growing out of their preflowers, so if you're having a hard time telling the difference between the preflower shapes (i sure as fork did) just look for the hairs, my plant had miniscule, almost invisibly thin white hairs coming out before i really noticed any discernable preflower shape. if i had pics i'd show you but...sorry

Thank you so much everyone for your replies. I took them down. I do have another small one that is about 5" tall that was part of the flowering cycle... this one looks like it has small pistils at the nodes already. So I put it back into veg to see what happens. I think that one is a girl.

For the record, its hard for others to make an accurate assesment w/o seeing pictures. Many have had what they thought were males, only to find they've killed a female. It does sound like you had a male, but here's a good way to get an idea early on: Find an upper node w/ secondary growth (and alternating nodes if possible). If you see a small growth farther away from the stem past the green stem hairs (evey node has 4) and in the space between primary and secondary shoots, look closely at its shape. If it looks like a tiny hershey's kiss (cone) w/o any stem stuck on, then its likely female. However, if you see a small "newborn" bundle of green, with a small lift off the stem or node, then its likely male. watch it closely for a few days- if it stays the same or gets larger w/o any tiny white hairs, then its male. One other thing- if you have been flowering to sex that female, do not put it back into veg- it will stress the plant and possibly make it go hermie. Re-vegging is OK if the plant was only showing preflowers, but once the larger pistils and clumps show up, its too late without risking it.

Rule of thumb I follow is clone for sex 3 weeks max Earliest I've had is 11 days I have been able to Identify. T5's definetly show sex w/ pre flowers w/ 24 hr but definitely under 18/6. Usually males grow larger then females IMO. I would never throw or destroy a plant for sure till sex is 100% determined... I had a couple of times were I almost chopped and said ahh give it just a few more days and pistols Popped... IMO Males show sex sooner but then You need to wait for the females anyway... Normally 60/40
