I will be coming to cali for a while quite soon..My wife and I are getting our cards, and looking for a outdoor grow friendly 3-5 acres...3-4 bedroom house on it would be right....Which county is more lax on outdoor growing, or growing your own in general?

I have wanted to grow outside in norcal for 15 years at least...so reading an EXHAUSTING amount of info, Humboldt, Sonoma and mendicino look the l=most promising for me...dont dig big city...wanna be out there a bit with my outdoor plants...looking to do the collective thing ya know? My friend, my wife and myself...thats already 300sq ft allowable grow area outside....woohoo!!! fuck amsterdam....lol
just the fact that i wont be freaking out stressed anymore is the greatest part for me...Im sure the dispensaries are cool, and i may go to a few...but i just wanna grow in peace, and provide for people, ya know?

Walnut Creek has a lot of 'out of the way' places and you may check out places south of Eureka! Plus, McKinlelyville (I loved it there) and Junction City, hard to find places and people know how to mind their own business and shut upt, since all are pretty much into the same things!
I've had the urge way too long to go there, I don't think I can wait either. Just gotta do it!. Be nice to start a commune of 420's there! Co-op gardens--Wow! A friendly smell, no matter where you go! O.M.G.==what a feelin! :hippy:

My next door neighbors just moved here from miami (los angeles county). They were very happy with the low humidity and how their plants grew quicker etc etc. I have been to humboldt b/c my ex g/f's dad grows 12 kush plants and sells most of his yield to the dispensories. Anyways, it was beautiful and lush... much like the bud I saw up there

SS; Sure hope you really check out North Of Eureka, (Arcata, McKinleyville and up)--you get into the redwoods there and large acreage! You will love it and wonder why you didn't go sooner!
Too bad we don't have a spot for people that want to strat Collective's on a large farm with all help living on property (Co-op, commune ('60's like -not Mormorn though): A spot to make business transactions to all contribute to purchase a site, etc. Surely, it would cost Can.com too much for lawyers, anyway:
All the luck in the world with you and yours! More to do there than just anyone would enjoy!
Just go there and drive around to find what you like. Stay a while, you'll be what you'll find For Sale by owner ( a descretionary one, that doesn't want anyone coming to inspect house that works DEA or something; could walk into a set up place!) I Was up there years ago for a long time and found more for sale by owner! Or word of mouth.
Please do keep up informed, we may be neighbors in a few years!

That is what I found up there! You just have to keep your head low In Eureka/Arcata there is a food Co-op. Man, I don't think I should write the rest! But, lets' say you can get a lot of info in the parking lot! I spent many months up there, as a vacationer, several years ago. The people are just different and pretty friendly. Not up right, but mix with the locals in any Co-op, they are all into health food and organic anything! You'd be surprised!
I doubt the fog has a lot to do with that particular area, but they do have a lot of it there, call it "tullie fog" or something like that! Plus, close to the ocean. There use to be a sandwich type place called, "Katamaran"! Might ask descreet questions there, in McKinleyville. Very discreet. Not saying I know anyone there or what they do, but if it is still there, they have been in the area a long time and I am sure would be helpful in finding a house to your needs. Or the parking lot of the Co-op! Most there grow their own vegetables also! If you had something going on, it isn't like you'd want a realtor listing it to let anyone in, anytime! Would you? It is worth checking out! Could tell you a lot of stories, but, I do hope this helps. I just love that area! Go slightly east of it and around and north! Mix with the locals! Good luck!

don't be mistaken in the belief that you can just start 'growing medical pot', still plenty of legal probs in CA, too :( ... just ask Eddy Lepp, and his 'grow Co-Op' that WAS in Lake County, (one of the most pot-favorable counties) ... if you start a large co-op, you can expect to have your property seized, etc., and lots of time and money trying to get it back ... I'm really not trying to discourage, I'd just hate for a well-meaning person to come out here, thinking this is 'marijuana-la-la-land' ... the current situation here, is to DISCREETLY grow your small number of semi-legal plants, and keep your mouth shut about it ... just the facts, ma'am :wtf: ...

Great, getting all the right people giving you info! But, nothing like going and seeing for yourself! Google Earth and Zillow, doesn't do it justice! Hopefully, Humboldt will cool down. But, Willow Creek is out of the way and anything between Junction City and Arcata are pretty neat places! Too bad we can't talk! Everyone, particularly, the ones that actually have lived there all this time! I visited for a long extended time and never wanted to leave and havn't lost the urge to return! Am in a spot, I plan to get out of South. Cal for sure though! Veggii seems to have been around there a lot. I have seen Placerville, worked with people that retire there (a few too many transplants there, for the wrong reason); But, wherever MH is, may be a great spot. It is way south of Humboldt! You will not believe all the open country and trees (if any are left) up there! Depending on your needs and substance, you can go anywhere. Right now, it seems rough all over California. Surely, there will be a let up for a good stealth person. Hey, I thought, because I was legal, I could grow in my front yard. So, I've come a long way reading this site. But, I will never forget my 5 mos in Arcata/McKinleyville and a few in Junction City around Willow Creek. In Willow Creek, you get around a lot of small Indian tribes and, well, they are 'fun' lets' say! Hope to get you more info and hope more comes in from the locals up there. Did u try Craigs list, to find a local that will talk to you, discreetly about 'relocating to Humbloldt or surrounding area" Once, you establish a relationship, you may hit the jackPot! A friend of mine did that when trying to relocate, somewhere else! Take care and be sure to take your family and green thumbs! You can grow all your veges there and it is awesome. Everyone is into it! You'll find local grown organic anything up there! AS EVERYONE SAYS, BE CAREFUL AND NOT GREEDY, STAY WITHIN LAWS-ON YOUR LAND! and like the people there, keep your mouth shut. Looking forward to more of this search! It is exciting to see someone doing what I should have at your age! Now, I am waiting for right opportunity!:hippy:

hey stealth crew I've followed your first led thread and am definitly subscribed to the new one too. I'm also out here in Cali.
I'd say if you want to move out to Sonoma co. Where Iv'e lived awhile in the past be ready to pay alot for a place. Did you say you were looking to buy. I now live in Shasta co. where they follow the states guidelines, but I love it here. Trinity co. (although ablaze like this bowl of PK i'm burning ) is nice and has a higher tolerance from the local law enforcement. Everyone knows Humbolt is great for it. Which ever county you and your wife choose Cali is great to live, raise a family, and grow our favorite plants. Just be prepared if you go the collective route even though you got your papers in order the FEDS don't care.

Sorry to hear about the JHXBB--do you back up your strains with seeds. Might be easier to cross borders to Calif. with seeds as opposed to plants! I think there are a few checkpoints across this state and from state to state! If they are open!

A couple of things to consider:
1. The cost of living is pretty high in Cali, research it and be prepared.
2. Consider a short sale rather than a foreclosure, it is a more responsible way of letting go of your condo.
Good luck.

You can try renting it for now and wait for the market to turn. Even if you rent it for a small loss you can factor in the tax advantages of it as well and also save your credit in the process.

just so you know, in the "emerald triangle" i think one or two of those counties dont even require medical cards, the law of the county is you can grow and smoke for recreation also.
i know for a fact that at least a few counties in cali are like this, i KNOW humbolt is like this and maybe medacino.
get a south facing property thats not too hilly and has good soil.
unfortunatly primo grow lots are basicly unaffected by the housing bust and are highly saught after in these ultra lax counties. everyone knows what you can do with a south facing lawn in humbolt ;)
the cost of living is high but id imagine its not TOO much higher than parts of florida. the three counties in the emerald triangle are the three poorest counties in cali because they are also very rural and there is not a lot of jobs in the imedient area (failing economy is part of the reason they are so into growing), so that brings local infation down. the high cost of gas and energy is offset by the fact that you can grow your own food and THE FACT THAT YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA!!!!! seriously, if america had free universal healthcare and they started letting us drink in the street the south of france wouldnt have shit on socal.

^ one more thing, take security very seriously when choosing a lot, if its too close to too many people its only a matter of time till some little asshole hikes/dirtbikes near your property and sees your grow and starts getting ideas. the further away from civilization the better.
also make sure the plot gets lots of sun, not just that its south facing. make sure the trees and hills dont block too much sun in the mornings and evenings, the sooner in the day the sun directly shines on your plants the bigger they will get.
there are only four things ganja needs to grow; fresh air, clean phed water, decent soil, and DIRECT sunlight.

US CA: Curb On Growing Marijuana Sought (http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v08/n549/a01.html)
^ thats a news article from earlier this year, and i know that the amendments to curb the growing didnt pass.
i KNOW thats not the only county like that, i read about them all the time (i read lots of legal journals and articles), thats how you know whos REALLY lax with the budha.
see in 2000 the cali courts ruled that prop 215 was the MINIMUM that cali resident are entitled to in terms of medical marijuana, not the max or a guidline like a lot of conservative area were trying to argue. at that time a good number of areas were fighting the medical marijuana movment.
but unfortunatly for them the courts reminded them that prop 215 IS actualy a REAL california statute voted into law by a majority of california voters that courts, cops, judges, and juries have to abide by.
see, prop 215 is vauge, it just says "yeh you can grow bud if your sick, at least this much, BUT INDIVIDUAL COUNTIES CAN EXPAND ON IT!!!" its that provision in prop 215 in so many words that allows for mendocino to allow for recreational growing.
mendacino cops = cant arrest you for recreatinal growing of up to 25 plants
cali state cops = can arrest you for recreational growing and/or if you are over your counties limit, but they wont unless you are obviously a kingpin or something, because prop 215 also allows you to get your card retroactivly to avoid prosecution, so its almost not even worth it.
dea/ federales = these are the dudes who you have to worry about, they LOVE busting commercial ops in the emerald triangle, but again if you are under the limit and obviously not making huge bank off it they probably wont even fuck with you. AT MOST they would probably kill all your plants. having a card WILL make a diference to the dea/federales more than if you just say "yeh in medocino you can grow for recreation so i just said fuck it."
if anyone wants to hire me as a ganja law consultant hit me up, seems like even people in cali dont know the cali pot laws.
i know for a fact that at least a few counties in cali are like this, i KNOW humbolt is like this and maybe medacino.
Well Mendocino voters just gave up the Measure G victory from 2000 by voting yes for Measure B last month. Measure B repealed the 25 plant limit and once again the state MMJ limits are to be enforced. Too bad, Mendo is a great place.... :(
I know geoluv means well, but you gotta check the FACTS before making statements when it comes to this stuff.... :wtf: He is right about security and south facing property, but is totally off mark about the LAW.

true sorry, that was pretty recent though i thought i followed the cali pot news pretty well.
plus right in that article it says that the cali courts overturned similar limits that were imposed in other counties trying to scale back the growing.
plus i have a hard time beleiving that 8 years ago they would legalize weed outright, but now they would seek to cap it. something doesnt compute....
i dont think mendocinos inhabitants got more conservative, i think it just got easier to rig a ballot box:detective1:
it would make sence that they would make the law tighter so they could harrass the area more, under pressure from the feds or state lawmakes trying to make nice with the feds.

please be VERY careful with these statements. You have made a few of them that make it seem as if there is no risk when you are not a "kingpin". This is inaccurate, and i am from CA and i DO have personal experience. I do know people who have had their homes searched and seized for growing within the medicinal limits. I do know people who have been tied up in court for over a year because they were growing medicinally.
The fact is in most parts of CA the Sheriffs will do WTF they want and let the court settle it when the smoke clears. And if they dont have the balls then they will bring a few federal officers along with them.
I just don't want people putting themselves and family UNKNOWINGLY at risk

did any of those people go to jail or loose thier house? because unless they got raided by dea or feds if they were under the limit and had a perscription they cant loose thier house or go to jail under state law unless there was also evidence of dealing to people without perscriptions.
plus when were these raids and what instigated them? its 2008, if they can have billboards for delivery services like "1800gotkush" i find it hard to beleive they would actualy be able to send people to jail for growing 6 plants.
but you are right about how some cops like to arrest everyone and figure out if what they did was legal later. and its hard to sue them for fuckign with you even when you were all nice and legal (although iv seen a succesful suit in CO where the cops didnt return a dudes weed before it died after a raid so they had to give him money to buy more weed). but this is kinda a given, there is always a supercop out there looking for a quick promotion who thinks a quick un-warented grow arrest is the ticket. then the case ends up costing the county (and defendant sometimes) thousands of dollars and ends in dismissal or aquittal because the young supercop decided a possable promotion was more important than the ACTUAL LAW.
im just saying this because even the federal medicinal growing cases i see always end up with some slap on the wrist, at least these days. if you dont have guns and arent doing anything else wrong how is a cali jury going to send you to prison for growing weed? even bush, the president of the united states said in 1999 that states should be left to regulate medical marijuana themselfs. the feds only prosecute people making profit from weed. this is evidenced by the fact that when they raid dispensories they prosecute thier owners but when they bust a co-op with 15,000 plants being grown by hippies they only kill the plants and dont arrest anyone, because the plants wer (usualy) going to be given away to thier respective owners, not sold.
i should revise my statement; there is a chance you could be fucked with for growing even in cali, but as long as you are within the limit and legal you will get off unless they bring down the federal hammer. its the law. prop215 is a STATE LAW and the state is not required to enforce federal law. police can arrest you all they want, doesnt mean the charges are going to stick.
know your rights... knoledge is power. if you know your rights you have just as much power as the police or any judge or jury, you have the power to plan your actions in advance so you are always unquestionably in the right.
sorry i was a month off with the info on medocinos recreational growing law, but how many people reading this thread even knew that mendacino had that from 2000 till 2008? that always boggled my mind, that in mendocino weed was straight up legal and every last resident could have 25 big ol bud bushes chillin in the back yard. bud must cost like 50 bucks an ounce there.
the dea busted a "commercial" grow op there that was being run by an unofficial contender for county sherif.

I appreciate your research and knowledge. I agree with a lot of what you are saying.
ALL i am saying is that unless you are a KINGPIN you probably dont have 15,000 laying around for a lawyer, which even medicinal growers sometimes need to hire.
The cops confiscating your medicine for a year, coming into your home, and throwing you in jail for a even just a night is not a slap on the wrist, and happens quite often.
You are so right, know the law, and follow them...and try to have 15,000 for a lawyer...

thanks for all your imput guys...I have been reading the SHIT outta all the laws over there....county, state, and even federal records of raids...I know the risks, but to me, the benifits outweigh the consequences...Maybe Im retarded, lol...I plan on staying under the limit, and wont be doing single, large outdoor grows...Ill have a few smaller ones, but not just one giant crop...clones, seedlings, and veg will probably be inside, with the plants going outside for flowering....just some ideas. I didnt say I was thinkin about moving there, I AM moving there....heh.
See all you Californians soon!!!!

Trinity is a place I have spent a little time! It is very wooded. Has a river and a few creeks running thorugh it. Depending on where you go. Long way to nearest city, but who cares! The people are nice and fairly isolated. Mostly mining areas. Choose wisely, lots of rocs and snow in the winter. I personaly like Junction City! Just not the snow, doesn't snow as much as it use to. Check it out! The type of town you grow up in and just never leave! Everyone works at the local lumber mill!
