I'm growing 7 plants, hoping to get a mix of males and females so I can selectively pollinate certain branches of the females for seeds. I really need seeds this season, but I'd like some relatively seed-free bud at the same time. I was planning on growing in pots so I can move the males away from the females when the pre-flowers start showing and then only pollinate specific branches manually. However, I keep hearing how well plants do that are in the ground... so now I'm having second thoughts about the pots.
If I do plant in the ground, will I be able to transplant the males from the ground to a pot (to move them away from the females) without killing them? Has anyone ever done this before? I guess I'd have to dig very carefully... it seems like it could be done though. Thoughts?
