i planted 4 seeds on 4/20 and 8 more the weekend after. the first seeds that were planted all sprouted and kept a healty look, so i kept them all. out of the eight that were planted the next weekend, 6 sprouted, but one looked deformed, so i decided to just get rid of that one early.

if you notice, there are two plants that have been topped, and here is the story behind that... i was planning on moving the plants to an easier location, so its less work to water them and keep up with them. so i decided to move them to a nearby hillside that nobody ever goes to. midway through the day, i realized i didnt fence them in at all, and immediately went back to do so. when i got there, three of the plants have already been chomped on by deer! two were left with leaves, but one was eaten all the way to the bottom of the stem. i thew away the completely gone one, and just continued watering the other two. its funny how well the deer topped it, while just trying to get some grub for themselves, haha.

so its been about two months since they sprouted, and im quite happy with how they are looking. i decided to keep them in small containers, in hopes to keep them small and not visible to the public...does anyone know if this would work? the four i planted on 4/20 are Grape Ape X Northern Lights, and the others are an unknown strain i got from a friend. i started them on nutrients about a week ago, and since then they have just been taking off! the leaves are nice and green, and no longer droopy. ive noticed a tiny bit of burning on the tips of some leaves, so i keep using a little bit less nutrients everyday until there is no more signs of nute burns.

i got to run now, but i hope you all enjoy my new grow log that is starting, and any input of any kind is welcome and appreciated.

You look like you did a real good job so far with your plants. Really excellent growth you've got there. Just make sure that you don't over fertilize because what you've got going right is certainly working. Keep posting and check out my thread I just started too. Oh and by the way what type of soil mixture did you use as of now?

looking good, you should transplant soon

is there any bad effects the plants will endure if not transplanted? as i said in the beginning of the thread, i want to keep them in the small containers, in hope that the plants will not grow too big, and be in clear view of the public, as they are being grown on my roof in a highly populated suburban neighborhood. all my neighbors on have clear views of my babies, but its not them im worried about, because i have a completely legal setup with under the amount of plants i am legally able to grow. im more worried about kids seeing them and trying to take them.

any response to this will be appreciated

ahh i understand your problem.

problems from not transplanting....no space to grow and mature. you should be giving your plant one gallon of soil per foot of plant, keep in mind your plant will double if not triple its size during flowering....hence the bigger pot container.

BUT, is it worth the risk to try and grow your plants and not produce much bud because the roots didnt have space to grow....or since your already taking the risk growing upgrade to a slighty bigger container..........3 gallon would be alright, 5 gallon would be great. you can bend your plants and (or) tie them down. seach for LST around here if you dont know what it is.

if they are already in plain view sight for the neighbors why not amaze them with a bigger plant?

^^^^ i appreciate the time your taking to help me out here. i understand what your saying, so i'll try transplanting them as soon as possible. im thinking of just planting them in the ground at a nearby hillside, and fencing them in to keep these damn deer away from killing my ENTIRE crop this time, lol. thanks for the advice, and i'll keep ya'll posted when i make the changes.

The idea of planting in the ground sounds best. I wonder, if you keep the plants going you know the strains of and cut down to just those plants, your yiels might be greater than keeping all of the plants. But, I hear the yield form the ground is so much better you wonder why you didn't grown in the ground to begin with!

Good luck and will keep looking to find results!

i havent been able to take pictures lately, but will update within the next couple of days.
i dont think i quite understand your statement. how do you mean it will be a bigger yield by cutting down the ones i dont know what strain they are? dont get me wrong, im all ears for anyone pitching in their advice, so please, elaborate. i am open to any ideas that will make my yield better and more rewarding come october.

heres a few pictures of them right before i planted some in the ground. im not expecting to be able to go through the whole season and still hold on to these, but i guess i'll just keep tending to them before the deer kill them all. i have nothing to keep them covered from deer, so i guess theres nothing i can do. whatever, fuck it...just another reminder to me of how much this world sucks.

i transplanted a couple of them a few days ago. one went into the ground, and one went into a very large wooden container. the one that went into the ground was already topped by deer, so we'll see how that goes. enjoy

heres a little update...pictures were taken today. i uprooted the plant i had in the ground, because i realized it was one of the plants i dont know the strain of, so i switched it with the healthiest NL x GrapeApe i had, and both seem to be uneffectd by the transplanting, which i was surprised at. so here they are, and enjoy. and i would appreciate any advice anyone has for when to start using the bloom nutrients. is it the end of this month? or mid august? any answers would be great.

some of my plants have begun to show asymmetrical sprouting at the internodes. doesnt this only occur when the days get shorter as they go into flowering? just wondering what this means, because i thought they had a bit longer till they started flowering. any help would be cool

heres another update with some pictures. i asked earlier what the asymmetrical sprouting meant without going into flowering yet, but i noticed the topped plant has just show its sex today...and its FEMALE! such a relief to know the plant ive been putting the most effort into has returned the favor as showing pistils. hopefully she will yield a good amount.

does anyone know if this means i should start on the flowering nutrients now? if so, should i flush out the soil first? or just go straight to bloom nutes tomorrow? any help would be cool, cuz this is the only part im not too sure on.

i'll return with better quality photos you'll be able to zoom in on and see the beginning of the flowers.

I'm in the same boat. :D

I would guess waiting another 2-4 weeks before doing bloom nutes, whenever it actually starts budding. Just a half ass "educated" guess.

thanks for a reply guerilla..seems like nobody throws in any advice anymore.

im using general hydroponics FLORA nutrients, and on the bottle it has a category for "transition to bloom phase", so i'm guessing i should start using the bloom nutes today...i think??? i mean, im sure it wont harm the plant if i start using it a little too early. so i'll start on bloom today, and see how the plants react.

i'll update with pictures in a bit.

thanks for the input. i'll start them off tomorrow with the amount stated for the "transition to bloom phase". how long until you think i should use a higher dosage as stated on the bottle for the "blooming and ripening stage"? the strain is Grape Ape x Norther Lights #5, so im guessing it will be done flowering in about 55 to 60 days, so i want to get as early of a jump on the bloom nutes as i can.

so i had an unexpected visitor leave my house about 20 minutes ago. i was walking to the kitchen when my mom says "why is there a cop in front of our house?", and when i go outside he is walking towards the side of my house where some of my plants are, so i go back inside and wait for him to come up to the door. my mom answers the front door, and the cop immediately asks "is someone growing marijuana on this property?". i walk up to the door and tell him it is mine, and i go to get my paperwork. i show him everything, give him my ID, and he calls in my number to dispatch. he starts asking me if i know the regulations of it, and i say i do. so he starts questioning me, and i answer everything to the best of my knowledge. so for about 10-15 minutes the cop, my mother, and myself are having a conversation about the rules and regulations of marijuana cultivation in the county.

in all, this was a great experience, because i was finally able to inform my parents on the subject, that they never wanted to sit down and have a normal conversation about.

so here is an update of one of the plants, and you can see the preflowers on the fourth picture.

Hehe... most of the county cops here wouldn't know a live cannabis plant if it hit them square in the face.

I charge 10% of your harvest as a finder's fee :p

Make some Blueberry x G13 Haze crosses :)

With buying seeds from a foreign country as with anything that comes in via the mail you're risking a chance that US Customs may or may not examine your package and find illegal contriband.

as with Customs, that sucks, but im sure the company wont just send them looking like seeds. ive heard of people recieving thier seeds in ballpoint pens casing, among other weird things. but all i can do from here is keep my fingers crossed, hoping all will be well.

"Free" as in you have to gamble a few hundred to a thousand or two. Worse part about it is the 5-6hour trip on an MD80 series plane, packed in like sardines. Last time I was on a plane that small before I took one of these trips I went sky diving.

the fourth picture is a plant that i put in the ground about a week ago. does anyone know why it wont perk up? its getting good sunlight, and being fed with nutrients every day. the one next to it was transplanted into the ground the very same day, and looks way better. anyone know what could be causing this?

just more pictures. this time of my biggest plant. since the plant has been topped, does that mean it will have less yield? or will the produce as if they were two seperate plants?

also, the picture with the purple dot in the middle of the leaf, does that mean anything, such as a deficiency of some sort? or is it just genetics?

thanks 215, i cant wait to see how they turn out either! it was only one cop that showed up, and since then, my parents dont mind me growing now that they know nobody can get in trouble from them... ive been able to put all my plants in the wide open in my backyard where they get the most direct sunlight, and since then, they have all been taking off!

i just ordered the blueberry seeds yesterday, and the website said for internation deliveries, it should take about 5 days, so im guessing they should be here next week. lol, just as i was writing the last sentance, i got an email from rhino seeds confirming that the package was just shipped today 7/31, so im guessing i'll have those by about 8/6-8/10. i'll let you know when they come in, and it shouldnt be too long after that for me to plant them. but first i need to get all the indoor equipment before they get here, lol.

hey everyone, its been a while since the last update, so i just took pictures a few minutes ago.

they are all on bloom nutes now, so in a couple of months i hope to have some nice fat colas

pictures as follows:
1- grape ape x northern lights that was topped by deer a couple months ago.
2- 3 GAxNL all different sizes, because i put them in the ground at different times
3- the biggest of all the plants, it is the one on the left that is in the ground. the leaves are bigger than my hand now!
4- the top of the biggest plant, where you can see hairs starting to shoot out everywhere
5- me standing next to the topped plant in the bucket for size comparison. im 6'2" so i would say the plant is about 3.5' and the biggest is probably about 4-4.5'.

That is not a praying mantis. Mantis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praying_mantis)

No clue what kind of bug it is exactly but I've think I have seen them on my plants also. Only bugs I really have problems with here are leaf hoppers, caterpillars, and every now and then grass hoppers.

Far as maxing yield LST and ferts. From what I hear/read anyway. Might want to post a pic of that bug under Plant Problems and ask your question about maxing yield once your plants have started to flower under Growing Information and/or Advanced Techniques.

5- i decided to LST the topped plant a little bit just so they are not crowding eachother, and so they get more direct sunlight to where they used to be crowding eachother.

Did U get that bug posted on the "Problem" plant grow site??? I think I'd do it ASAP! Plus, it will pull in some more Pro's to check out your site and give you advice! As well as, visit other sites and place yours in your signature--they can't help to look!

If you did not prepare the soil for the plant, prior to planting-from what I have been read and told on this site; that is most likely why it the 2 did not adjust to the soil too well!

You aren't getting the response most do, I'd like to see some other growers comments. You have some of the best looking in, but there are a lot of real pros on this site. Get yourself around a bit and get them looking in. Especially with your new grow, as well.

What county r u n? I am wanting to re-locate. To plant under a busy body neighbors window would be funny! You have balls!!! Like one said tho, I'd be watching for DEA.

From what I can tell, in my county; Your crop has to be well worth over $100,000.00 before they bother to do much! Please be careful. I enjoy your info and lurk around for all I can get! Nice going and they sure look good!!!! pr

You may want to add some more Nitrogen to your grow. Maybe if you can. Get some Carboload by advance nutrients. can help with nitro-deficiency during flowering. Thats what i have read. I have not tried it myself yet. Good Luck. all Im saying is that you have balls to grow and show your face online. Damn!

hey painretreat, thanks for the input! yup, i put the bug pictures in the plant problems section yesterday, but havent gotten to much of a response in there. i am in the bay area, and that is as far as i will say, for obvious reasons :smokin:

i dont have much worry for the DEA coming in and charging me for all of 6 plants, but who know, anything can happen in this country now-a-days!

i'll follow your advice, and make a signature with my threads in them.

Hi there friend
I am loving what you got going and commend you for your fearless attitude but, I would suggest that you throw some Reed or other plants in there for blending purposes. I can send you a shot of a friends swimming pool where she spliced her plants between existing plants and then kept pinching them down to keep them from getting tall. Looks like any other pool in the Burbs.

If I may, I would defer from adding any more Nitrogen to girls at this point. It is my experience that it will slow down your flowering and could even put you back in Vegging. Flowering is based on a Hormonal ( I think that's a word ) change occuring in the plant and though that reaction is prompted by decresing sunlight, it is suspectable to outside influences such as Fert's.
FYI
I am in love with the Bay area and have been out twice in the past year, you guys rock and I hope the Feds back off while the legal air cleans itself up.

Peace and Luck

thanks MrJabonie.
i dont have much i can put around the plants to make it blend, but some of my plants are next to a grapevine, so i guess that will do for now.

i'll try to look up what you said about the nitrogen slowing down flowering, so i wont add any extra till i know for sure what it is going to do to my plants.

ya, the bay area is great! ive lived here all my life, and dont really plan on ever leaving.

Now, go visit some other grow logs and when you find someone that grows a bit like you, drop a note in and get some action here! Hope those bugs are gone! It may be a little late to plant Corn and Tomato plants around for security--but, you got the green thumb, you might put something around them, as suggested! Hello Gianca
Study up on the relationship of N-P-K to growth, budding and flowering, it will explain the mechanics. It ain't rocket science. And, painretreat and I agree, a little cover goes a long way. Remember, the girls are there 24/7, even when you are not.

the buds have grown nicely since yesterday, and i will take pictures tomorrow when i go out there to water them for all you guys who are keeping track of this thread.

and for all you who are keeping track of my thread, go ahead and add me as a friend, and be sure to subscribe to it, or whatever its called to keep updated.

just a random question. do main colas form by a bunch of buds joing together to make a massive bud? or is it a single bud from the beginning that just keeps getting bigger? i hope that makes sense

see ya'll tomorrow with an update

Depends on how crazy your neighbors think you are.... :D

Works for me. Some will try you up and you gotta put them in check. CYA, cover your ass.

I had a neighbor beat up my mail box, so I upped the ante. Only reason I can think of is he is just bipolar or something and would like to wave at me the day he did rough up my mail box. A fifth later and a few hours later he was still lucky to have running water to his house. Though I don't suggest doing that sort of crazy stuff.

If you have any neighborly problems, go about it legally. Strong fences makes good neighbors... Also have a heart to heart with your nieghbors. If they're obviously problomatic. Neighborhood kids, well corn and all this crap wont save you from them, but a protective dog will and a vigilant eye. Female dogs are generally more protective of property and persons than a male dog. Don't attempt to make your dog mean, it is a very bad no no.

Dogs are like anything else, they're mean when they need to be. Most of my dogs are very socalized with people and other animals. They are also very protective of me, my family and my property. You need to teach them your property boundries, by walking them the property line, anything outside of that line is to be ignored but anything within is fair game. Takes awhile but they'll understand firm "NO" and gentle loving "YES". Dogs understand body language and tones of voice better than most people.

Sorry for going off topic, I think you're OKAY security wise. Some of these folks I assume want to act like you're guerillla growing.

the only people that can see my plants are my crazy born-again christian neighbors, whom have already called the cops on me for thinking it was illegal. so i do not have much worry of them trying to steal my plants. i do walk around there a lot, constantly checking on the plants, and there is usually someone in the neighbors yard who notices me do this. but once again, i am not concerned about these people, whom actually that think this natural herb will condemn them to "eternal hell" (or whatever they were scared into believing).

gianca, first of all I have to congratulate you on your incredible-looking plants. They are some serious beauties, and are beginning to look even better in their early flowering stage. I can't wait for a smoke report on them, as I haven't heard anything about the Grape Ape x NL. I've heard and seen a lot about them separately, but never about a cross of the 2.

I wanted to try to touch on a few of your questions which I have noted along the way - I reviewed your thread from start to finish throughout my morning, where I've had time. It's a great thread, and it should serve you well on future grows to be able to look back at it to refresh your memory on certain issues.

My guess on the purple spot at the stem base of your fan leaves is that it is a genetic trait of the grape ape that carried over on the cross - just a guess. Also, I think you can slowly increase your bloom nutes every other watering, which should serve to pack on a bit more weight to your buds from here to harvest. I couldn't find an answer to your bug question. The picture does not meet my understanding of any of the common houseplant pests such as thrips, whiteflies, leafminers, mites, etc. It's a nasty lookin' dude, but I doubt it will do much damage, or will be anything for you to worry about, unless it brings a swarm of its friends with it and they all dive onto your plants for a buffet style hogdown. And, as for the bud development, my understanding is as stated by greengoddess420, the nodes become tighter and shorter, depending on the strain, with the resultant "bud" being a tight collection of calyxes from which spill the pistils/hairs.

I like your style of growing in the back yard. My outdoor growing takes place in my backyard as well. I have some houseplants, tomatoes, and peppers to provide some "camoflauge," but I figure if it is grown out in the open, people are less likely to suspect what's really going on. I'm surprised your neighbors knew what the heck you were/are doing, but am happy for you that you have your licensure in place. It bugs the hell out of me that there are people that feel the need to stick their noses where they simply don't belong. Why people can't "live and let live" baffles me.

I wish you continued success on your grow, and look forward to seeing your successful harvest pictures with weight and smoke reports. Be good out there!

just looked in on the last page of your grow, looking Good! Jazking has good advice. I only want to add, sometimes people use molassas to promote heavier buds. thanks for stopping by jakez and inbud!

i'll look into the molasses you were talking about.

i also thought the purple spots on the stem and leaves were genetic, but that is the only one of the 4 Grape Ape X Northern Lights that is showing that. but than again, it could just be varying(sp?) phenotypes.

so northern lights is said to flower in 7-8 weeks, and i dont remember how long the Grape Ape takes. so im guessing maybe 8-9 weeks? i need to get a magnifying glass within the next few weeks, before its time to harvest.

so what is everyone thinking? about another month and a half? or longer?

the yellowing of the lower leaves is kinda normal once the plant starts to flower. You still have to feed the plant some nitrogen tho. And of course an early bloom food would have that in it..
the girls will put on the crystals(trichs) after bout a month flowering...
cant think of a thing to help you with the oder......the neighbors are just gonna have to buck up and shut up if this a legal grow. I dont think the oder is gonna be that bad off only a few plants anyway. I got twelve and they are in three to four weeks of flower..and unless you are right in the middle of them.....you cant really smell them.
But i am sure they will get more stinky as the summer closes.

hey, so i was out all weekend at the Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park, so haven't been able to update, let alone even water the plants. but i watered them today for the first time since friday, and most of them perked back up within the hour, but the big, topped plant is still looking droopy, but slowly perking back up also. so here is an update for the last few days, and i must say, the buds are looking great!

3rd picture- i noticed a branch on the lower part of the plants looks as if something has bitten it. it was bitten at two different spots, but im just hoping the thing that bit it doesn't come back with friends.

Aloha, G.

The girls will start to become fragrant at puberty.
Some strains seem to release little bursts as the flowers fill in.
They will probably get a bit stinkier as they mature.
That's a good thing to pay attention to.

It's like baking cookies.
You can set a timer and watch them every minute.
Or, with experience, do whatever, and your nose will tell you when they are perfect.

As for the lower leaf yellowing, it's natural.,
Just means she's done with them and is recycling their innards before discarding them.
Leave them be until they are ready.

When they are ready to drop, they form an protective film at their base to seal the off main stem.
A gentle tug will tell if they are ready to drop.
They will easily snap off and doing so is advised.
If the dead leaves drop onto lower branches and are left there, they eventually get wet and invite mold.

Your ladies are lovely.

Good job, G. :greenthumb:

Don't know much about outdoor growin.:(
Suppose I could hazard a guess.
Lotta factor to consider, though.
Soil drainage and tilth is a biggie.
Too much water can hurt 'em.
I wouldn't try to flush an inground plant that wasn't obviously in need.
But you'll do better to wait for solid information from someone who really knows.

http://boards.cannabis.com/plant-problems/161195-something-eating-bottom-branches-my-plant.html#post1904424
i have been noticing over the past couple of days that a few of the bottom branches of my biggest plant have been looking as if they've been chewed on, and some are even completely gone. i'll include pictures, but does anyone have a solution to this besides a fence? at first i though it was deer that were eating at it, but seems unlikely, because its only one small branch that is tucked under the plant. there is also a branch that was bent by something. should i leave it and see if it heals? or should i just pluck it off?

i've seen on here that people talk about human urine working as a repellent, so i'll try it out, but im not sure if these suburban animals are at all scared of human scent. any help would be great, and would help me keep my crop safe through the end of the season.

here are the pictures, and i outlined in red the ones that are a little difficult to see at first.

just a quick question. is it bad for the plants to take flsh pictures of them at night? i have noticed that there are many night pictures (which seem to be better quality pictures of the plants than pictures taken during the day) with flash posted around this site, and got me to thinking, wouldn't the flash mess with the plant? just stoned, and thinking. :hippy:

But I think it was Opie that pointed out "Lightening doesn't seem to hurt them."
Still, might be good to limit the flashes to just before they get up, or right at bedtime.
The phytochrome timer will reset just fine after 12 or so hours of dark, so a flash or three shouldn't put 'em in a tailspin.
I'm guessing a lot of flashes, middle of the night, three night in a row? Probably not a good bet.:)
You wouldn't like it. Why would the girls?:D

i'll go out back in a bit to take pictures, so i'll be back for an update a little later.

i just got back from taking pictures, so here they are. this time im going to show every plant, and at what stage of growth they are at.

these first 5 pictures are of the smallest two plants.

gianca
08-28-2008, 10:22 PM
here are pictures of the topped plant.

it seems like it is growing at a much slower rate than the other plants. it is getting the exact same amount of water and nutrients as the other GrapeApe x Northern Lights, so i dont understand this. it is also the only onethat has purple stems.

maybe it has to do with the fact that its the only one in a pot?

gianca
08-28-2008, 10:27 PM
here is the biggest of them all. she is growing at a ridiculous rate, and the crystals have just begun packing on. i'm thinking this one is going to be ready faster than any of the others, so she'll be the first to be cut down. there are at least 40 different bud sites that i have spotted, so im thinking this is going to produce the most herb.

pictures as follows:

1- whole view of the plant
2- big branch on left side of plant
3- cola of big branch on left side
4- big branch on right side of plant
5- cola of big branch on right side

gianca

here is the plant that is next to the biggest plant, that are all in the ground. it is just starting to bud, but has been growing faster and faster every day.

gianca
08-28-2008, 10:41 PM
this is the smallest of all the plants. when i put it into the ground, it didnt adjust as well as the others, so it was basically sitting there, not growing at all for about 2.5 weeks. it has shown female, but has barely begun to grow any buds at all. this is basically the runt of the group, and i am not expecting very much from this one at all. i basically just want to keep growing it, because it has three main stems, so i want to see what ends up happening with that.

so i decided to try out taking some pictures at night. even though the buds are much more visible, every time i took a picture, i felt like i was doing a terrible thing to my baby by using the flash. so without a doubt, that will be the only night shoot i will do for these plants.

this plant went into flowering the week of August 15th, so that would mean it is going into week 3 of flowering(i think + or - a few days). so im guessing about another 4-5 weeks to go. so this should be the time they really starts putting on some weight....hopefully

1st picture: wide shot of the biggest plant
2-5: the main cola of the biggest plant

Great looking shots of your girls. Try going out in the late evening and taking a few with a flash...i get real nice pics that way. Since we are growing outside in nature, i dont think the light is so critical as it is when you grow inside. The moon around here is sometimes as bright as a streetlight.

thanks for stopping by inbud. i'll try out taking pictures just as the sun goes down. seems like a good idea, by not freaking out the plant with a sudden very bright flash in the middle of the night, when it is the darkest. where my plants are, they are in complete darkness, with absolutely no light shining in at all, so i think they would be just as sensitive as indoor plants to light during the night. your plants are lookng great by the way inbud! hope you have a successful and satisfying harvest.

quick question:
every day when i go out to water the plants, i notice spider webs around the plants. is this going to be a problem? seems like the spiders would help eat other bugs, but i wasnt sure if it is going to be harmful to the plant. anyone have advice on this?

Great looking shots of the Girls.....I personally love real spiders in my plants. Means they are eating any unwanted bugs. The kind of spider you have to worry about is SPIDER MITE, and i am sure you dont have them by looking at those gorgeous leaves on your buds.

Side Question...I live way north of SF, but go there a few times a year. Never been to a "club" there. But would be interested in buying seeds at one. I have heard Humbolt despencerys have them but have never been able to find one that does. (i dont live in Humbolt Co.) So, if you dont feel uncomfortable telling me, where can i find a club that has seeds in SF? (i am a medical recomendation grower) If you feel uncomfortable telling me, i understand. No problem. Thanks anyway.

Nice plants Gianca. They look beautiful and should fill in nicely.

Don't worry about the spiders. They are doing exactly what you thought, eating other insects.
I even have some spider mites on some outdoor and they don't do too much damage because the cold nights and the other bugs regulate them.

Nice growing.

hey again inbud! so are you a medical user? or registered as a grower with a permit to sell as well? i have been trying to find the informaiton so i can get a sellers permit so i can supply to the local dispensaries, but have had no luck so far.

i know of a few dispensaries in SF that sell quality seeds, and i hope it is not against the site rules to post this information

i will post the name, but just look it up on yelp or something to find the address.

for sensi seeds, there is a club called grass roots clinic. i think they are $80 for a pack of ten.

where i got my Northern Lights seeds and where they also have DJ Short seeds available at a dispensary named CannaMed Care (CMC). the wide variety of Northern Lights Crosses they have are available for only $14 for a pack of ten, and the DJ Short packs of ten are sold for (i think) $150.

my best advice for this would be to sign up for weed tracker dot com where they have all the clubs throughout all of Northern and Southern California and forums for people to discuss what they have on the menu at the time, including clones, hash, seeds, edibles, ect.

hope this helps,

ive been picking them off whenever i see them, and will continue to do so. i have also been noticing a bunch of little tiny white fly looking things around the plants. is this a common fly attracted to cannabis?

i just looked back in the log, and an update on August 10th said they were fully flowering. so this would mean they started maybe sometime between Aug. 7-10, so they are in week 4, almost 5.
i was also wondering if the browning of the hairs this early is normal. its been pretty hot lately, so i just wasn't sure if this is because of the heat, or just the normal life cycle.

ya weezard, i really am happy with this camera! im using a Sony DSLR-A100, and am hoping to get a better MACRO lens to get some shots of the trichomes up close and personal.

any advice on the white fly things, or the browning hairs would be appreciated!

If they fly erratically, and are pure white.
Then it sounds like white fly. (which is actually a moth, or so I've read)
Next time you go out, give each girl a little shake.
If you get a cloud of the buggers, that's trouble.
They usually show up when there are yellowing leafs.
And are attracted by the color
That's why those sticky yellow fly-paper traps work so well on 'em.
It's a little late in the game for pesticides, so just keep 'em healthy and they're less likely to attract pests and better able to repair and resist damage.
And the browning of the pistils is normal.
They still have weeks before they are prime.
Keep an eye on the trichomes and a nose for their scent.
You've got a fine grow so far.

I do so enjoy it, maybe i should look into that aspect of growing. I will check into that site you mentioned too, weed tracker.

And of course your girls look great. I would also say you have four or more weeks to harvest, prolly closer to six. I give mine eight weeks before i stop giving them nutes, then i watch those trichs real close. I have browning pistles too now. Gives the bud a nice contrast color i think. I even noticed yesterday some pistles turning pink! Am gonna try to get a close up of that soon.

no problem. any certain seeds your thinking of growing or from a certain breeder? my next order is probably going to be some Querkle from Subcool TGA

and for the selling; i always remembered someone telling me that selling was possible to the clubs legally, and it was confirmed when i had the cop visit a while back. my mom was in the middle of saying "if we know he is selling at all, he is gone..." when the cop inturpts her saying "no, no, he can sell. as long as he has the right paperwork" so i asked him if all i needed was the selling permit, and he said ya. so that was a fun way of learning the rules, and will for sure be a great story to tell some years from now. :hippy::hippy:

Just stepped out on the lanai with my CT-1330-B light meter.
Bright, overcast 3:00 pm sun in Hawaii measures 10,950 LUX
To get that reading from my LED panels I hold the meter 6" away.
Of course sunlight has yellow green which we see quite well and the meter is weighted towards human eye response. I expect you'd get a higher lux reading from the same wattage of green LEDS
So , I keep the LEDs about 8" from the plants.

That answer your question?

Anybody care to repeat this with an HPS and an MH?

Consternation turned to elucidation!:D

I looked it up on Wiki.
It says that "Bright sunlight provides illumination (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illumination) of approximately 100,000 candella (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candella) per square meter at the Earth's surface." It then goes on to state "a uniform 1 candela source emits 12.6 lumens."
So, if I do the math... 100,000 X 12.6 = 1,260,000.
One million, two hundred sixty thousand lumens per square meter.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

So that's what? 140,000 lumens per square foot?
Tell ya what, next time I get a break in the clouds around noon I'll see what this meter calls it.
Though translating to any spectrum other than sunlight is difficult.
Hmmmmmmm, indeed.

(Edit) Sun came out!
At 4:13 pm HST I read 65,000 Lux.
I'll get another read some future noon. :)

i just got back from watering them about 10 minutes ago, and when i got down there to the biggest one, a bunch of branches were all tangled up. i untangled them, and none were broken. i then noticed a branch hanging much lower than usual. i dont think it was caused by weight, because it isnt that heavy yet, but it is not broken either. a little confused, what could be doing this? a small animal like a raccoon or skunk? but how would the tangling of the branches be explained? anyone know?

thanks inbud! i love taking pictures of them, and the help people can give on this site is wayyy better than anything you can read in a book, so its a win-win situation :hippy::hippy:

but there wont be any picture updates for an entire week, because the camera has been taken to south america by a member of the family. i can always take pictures of them using a much lesser quality camera, but i feel it doesn't do justice to the flowers. we'll see what happens.

i wasn't able to get any last shots before the camera was packed up, but the buds are really putting on some weight now! the buds under the main cola are now a little bit bigger than golf balls, and dense! the plant doesn't smell if you just put your nose up to it, but if you touch a bud, than smell your fingers, it smells very strong. very much like a berry smell, that reminds me of fruit loops cereal. i'm guessing the smell usually alters as the plant matures, right?

thanks to everyone who has been helping out with my grow, and even people that just lurk around watching the plants grow, your more than welcome to keep lurking :D

hey everyone. the camera finally got back home, so here is an update to make up for the last week of no pictures. the plants are all doing great, and packing on those trichomes!

PLANT # 1
one of the two unknown strain. this one is smelling very much like original flavor bubble gum. very sweet smelling. this plant is about 4 feet tall now

pictures as follows:
1- view of the entire plant
2- a look inside, at all the branching and buds
3 to 5- the main cola

more to come...

gianca
09-15-2008, 09:30 PM
PLANT # 2

this set of pictures are of the second of the two unknown strains. this one is smelling very citrus like; kind of a lemon smell.

it was topped, and branched out nicely. very compact, and there are 9 different colas, all looking almost as big as the main cola

more to come...

gianca
09-15-2008, 09:35 PM
PLANT # 3

one of the four Grape Ape x Northern Lights. this was topped by deer, and grew as a double plant, now know by friends as the twins. this plant seems to be the farthest behind, but the buds are finally starting to produce. seems much more airy than the others, so if it doesn't come out as dense and nice as the other 3, than i'm pretty sure the whole plant will be turned into hash.

pictures as follows:
1 and 2 whole view of the twins
3-left main cola
4- right main cola

more to come...

gianca
09-15-2008, 09:39 PM
PLANT # 4

smallest of the four Grape Ape x Northern Light. was topped by deer, and grew into triple main stems. they are now starting to fill in, and trichomes are beginning to crowd in.

more to come...

gianca
09-15-2008, 09:46 PM
PLANT # 5

one of the four GAxNL. filling in nicely. this is the second most mature of the grape apes.

more to come...

gianca
09-15-2008, 09:51 PM
PLANT # 6

this is the biggest of all the plants. TONS of trichomes everywhere, and buds just keep getting bigger and bigger! very berry like aroma. starting to smell just by standing next to the plant, but if you touch her, your hands will be smelling for at least 10 minutes after your done. i have high hopes for this one, and cant wait to be able to chop her down, and begin the drying in a few weeks.

more to come...

Excellent Pictures of your girls....the camera is back from vacation and working overtime! Like mine dosent, lol, I think I am up to about fivehundred pics so far for my grow this year.
The buds on your plants look like they are bulking up real good. I am spending about an hour each night taking dried leaves off the plants. The ground is just littered with dead leaves.
Again, looking great!

i haven't thought about how i am going to dry yet, but i probably should. but i don't think i'm going to do full plants intact drying, because of how long it will take compared to chopping it up into sections. im thinking of just chopping up the plants into moderate sized branches, wrap them in newspaper with holes in it, and stick it in my basement with a couple fans to hang dry. i'll have a better idea of how i am going to dry it in a few weeks when it gets closer to harvest.

WOW!!! Your Girl's Have Blown Up!!!! Great Job!!!!:jointsmile:

ya, they really have been picking up weight in the last week. i cant wait to see how much they have gained in about 3 weeks when they're ready to come down.

question for anyone:
does anyone have any knowledge on water curing? i heard about it a few years ago, and have always wanted to try it, and see the difference. the water is supposed to clean the buds of all the toxins through osmosis, i think? and than you have to use a dehydrator to get all the water out. does anyone have any personal experience with this method of curing? im very curous, and am willing to sacrifice a branch or two to compare to the other bud that will be cured the good ol' fashion jar way. any help would be great.

thanks for everyone who is stopping by to check my thread out, and even more to the people throwing in ther advice to this young, new grower! :hippy::rasta::hippy::rasta:

if this goes well, i'm thinking of upping the scale, going indoors until next season, and making this a source of income to live off, and support myself. i have been researching all that i can on what is needed to be a seller to a local dispensary, and its all looking good so far. Does anyone know from personal experience what the average price, per pound, a northern california dispensary will buy from their patients?

im taking botany classes right now, and have already learned so much in regards to plant ecology, metabolism, and the evolution of major plant species'. so i hope with this better understanding of plant life, this will help me produce superior bud that everyone can enjoy.

take care everyone

Good Morning,
I talked to a couple friends about water cure (on the net). This is the gist of what they said.

1. I have and was really dissapointed! It removes the taste of the weed and ruins the bag appeal. You soak it in some water for 7 days changing the water daily, you can let the buds float on top of the water.

Not real good sounds like... and

2. I've tried it with a small amount and didn't really care for it. the smoke was super smooth but had hardly any taste.

If you are gonna sell to a co op, i sugest you sell them what they are used to selling/using. Just my opinion. Would love to hear what you have found out about selling to a despencry. I have a friend that sells to one in another county than where i am, as far as i can tell they just give them a sample and they tell them the next day if they (Co op) wants to buy some. As for price, i have no idea.

i didnt really think about the fact that it will get rid of the taste. it makes perfect sense though, since the water is extracting everything that is water soluable, only leaving the plant matter with the crytals. i have heard that it is an unbelievably smooth smoke, but i wouldnt trade that for the taste. i'll still try it out on a few buds though, so i can know from personal experience just how much of that wanted taste is extracted. should be interesting to compare the smoke reports at the end. looking forward to it!

here is a update for all you that are keeping track of this grow. i checked the trichomes on the biggest two plants, and basically they were all cloudy, so im guessing another 2-3 weeks, until they turn 50/50 amber to cloudy. the smell is finally starting to strengthen up, as now when i go into the backyard to water them, i hit a "wall of dankness". I LOVE IT haha

PLANT 1

this is a small one, that is unknown. budding very nicely. smell: very citrus-like

gianca
09-20-2008, 07:38 PM
PLANT 2

another unknown strain. the tallest of all 6 plants. i can look at this one eye-level now. the smell has changed from first smelling like original bubblegum, to now having a sort of musky smell. doenst smell too pleasant, but at the same time it does, haha. very sticky to the touch

gianca
09-20-2008, 07:41 PM
PLANT 3

this is "the twins". topped Grape Ape x Northern Lights. filling in a little bit more, but still looking much more airy than the other 3 GAxNL, which are all very dense buds. again, if this plant doesnt fill in like how i want it to, i will probably end up putting the entire plant through bubble bags. this one is much more leafy than the other 3 as well.

gianca
09-20-2008, 07:50 PM
PLANT 4

the biggest and most mature of all the plants. filling in very nicely, and the buds are very dense and smell like berries. tons or trichomes everywhere, but i also noticed a bunch of those white fly things when i gave the plant a little shake today. anyone know anything i could do to get rid of them, and if i cant, will they destroy the plant? i would rather harvest her early, than watch her get eaten alive before my eyes.

Yet.:)

Get some sticky yellow cards and hang them around the plant to catch the adults when you shake.
Then hand rub the leaf undersides and blast with a hose.
You need to remove eggs and larvae.

Only one plant having whitefly says that plant may not be happy.
Whitefly swarm sick plants.
The yellow card attracts them like yellow leaf.
Give us some close-ups of Fly-girl

Or, could be the terpenes in that strain do not repel them.
Whatever the cause, no need to slaughter the victim.:D

You can even harvest with spider mites, kinda.
The only reason I'd 86 a daughter would be mold!
That, can hurt you.

Lookin' great otherwise.:greenthumb:

hey, thanks weez and southerng. i am going to get those sticky yellow papers soon. but today when i went out, there was not a single white fly to be seen, even when i gave her a little shake, but i'll be keeping a close eye on her for that.

the biggest plant went into flowering the week of August 9th, so i'm guessing that it should be done within the next 3 weeks (plus or minus a week). does this mean i should start flushing her soon? im still giving all the plants nutes in their water everyday, and they have all been loving it.

i havent gotten this far in growing, so any help with when to start feeding with only plain water would be very helpful.

i'll take pictures in a little bit, so another update on the way

Would be interesting to note if her scent has changed.

hey everyone, here's another picture update.
so it is definitely true about what they say with the last 2-3 weeks of harvest putting on the most weight. i was gone this weekend at the Treasure island Music Festival, and when i watered them this morning since not seeing them since friday, i noticed they look way more swollen than when i left them. so another 3 weeks at most for the first plant, and i cant wait to see how much she swells up with these last weeks.

anyone know when i should start watering her with plain water? i want to get the best flavor out of my buds, so do you think i should start in a few days? its also going to be tricky, considering she is next to 2 other plants that will still be taking nutes for about a week longer than her

and the picture update starts.........now.:rastasmoke:

PLANT 1

these first two pictures are of some purple stems i have noticed on my unknown strain.now that i look at it closely, it seems like it could be from the cold temps. at night. on average, we'll hit a low of about 52-55 degrees fahrenheit in the night, so is that cold enough to cause the purple stems? they are only purple on the fan leaf stems, and absolutely nowhere else.

The purpling on the stems may be from the strain. I have some purps that have the purple leaf stems. From the same batch of seeds two other plants have all purple stems.
And as for cold turning the plant purple, the leaves get lightly purple at first and gradually darker as it gets colder at night, kinda spotty. I dont think 53 degrees should be turning the leaves purple. I had 44 this morning, and they are definately slowly going purple.

Your buds look great .....

thats what i was thinking. my plants have been through colder temps. than what we are having right now, with no sign of purple on them until now, and absolutely none on the leaves, or anywhere else but the fan leaf stems for that matter. so it must be genetic. thanks for that inbud.

As for the flush, it is personal preference. If you use Chem ferts it is highly recommended. If you are organic it would be sufficient to flush for a week or less if you choose. Not really a set practice from my understanding. I say better flush a bit longer if unsure because those plants still look green enough that they can pull some food from the fan leaves. Hope that helped, or at least made some sense.

thanks for stopping by again ari,

ya, im starting the flush on all the plants tomorrow. ive been giving them a lot of nutrients (half dosage every day), so for the last 2-3 weeks they are all going to be getting fresh water. hopefully it will bring the best flavor out from my girls

im using General Hydroponics FLORA nutes. dont really know much about them (my sister gave em to me a few years back) but im sure they are a chemical nutrient, right?

i picked off a TINY branch that had a little nug on the end. i looked for the smalles nug, that didnt look lik e it was growing much.

i picked all the leaves from it, and my fingers were VERY sticky after that. i tasted my fingers, and they tasted just like Fruity Pebbles

smoked it, and felt a good high for a while. so i cant wait till i get to chop it all down!

Fruity Pebbles, been a long long long time since I tasted those. Sounds like you will be harvesting soon. Some of my plants came down this week.

hey everyone,

been a while since an update, but will post pictures tomorrow. the biggest plant got chopped 2 days ago, and i have been trimming for 3 full days. today was the first time i took a break, and it was to go buy a sack of herb at the club. i ordered a bubble bag kit today. i got the 1 gallon 8 bag kit, for $140, but they rape you on tax and shipping for a total price of $180. but it will be much worth it, especially with all this sugar leaf im throwing in the freezer at the end of each day!

hey eve, long time no see. i dont know what to do about this rain coming in tomorrow, but i dont think it will do much harm.....hopefully.

thanks for stoppin by inbud, did you do anything to tarp you plants for the rain? should i be worried at all about it? it loos like it will only be raining for 1 day, and probably not a majority of the day either. EDIT: just started raining a bit ago

i'll leave ya'll with a pic or two, until the full update. this is only the first plant.

Glad your doing well G. I have been checking for updates and have not seen any. This time of year you never know if its busy trimming or if something negative has happened. Hate to be the paranoid one, but....any how what matters is your safe and those herbs look yummy.
I chopped the ones that were too big to tarp today, and tarped the rest. Been raining here most of the day. The buds are real dense and i am worried about water getting stuck inside, especially because they have some time left on the stalk.
I'll update with some photos one of these days.

Glad to hear you are trimmin' and didnt disapear. Takes forever to get that bud trimmed up how i like it. I spent lets see....one plant, twelve hours, one ten, and the the first eight. One didnt get trimmed as close as i wanted, so i am gonna be trimming it up when dry. I was just burned out on trimmin' by then.
YOUR BUDS Look so good. I love a nice long kola like that. I didnt get a long one yet. Most of mine harvested are like eight inches or so, the center bud.
The rain sucks, gonna have to watch for mold.
Glad to see you back.

hey inbud! thanks for stopping by
its been a while since i was last on here, just been busy away at trimming, and before that i was buying all the needed equipment for a bubbleponics setup in my closet for the winter.

i noticed those Fiskars trimming shears on your table inbud, and had to go out and get me a pair. and geeze, they work like MAGIC! no pain in my hand, and they are so precise, i dont have to worry about accidently cutting a nug in half, haha.

so im gunna get back to trimming now. im almost done with the first plant, and the next one or two are getting chopped within the next few days i think.

thanks for everyone stopping by. and anyone who was wondering what happened to me, i appreciate you concern, but things couldn't be better.

Thanks for the link...now i know what to look for.

And..
as for the question about flushing. Yes, No nutes for two weeks, before harvest and flush the last week, is what I do. So sorry I didnt say so sooner. You are past that I guess.
Sounds like you are gonna have fun in the closet this winter...lol.

I have talked to a couple friends, and dont put that moldy plant parts in your hash trimmings. They both say, Toss it! Do not ever smoke moldy bud!

As for taking your plants early, I dont know. I am taking all of mine this week, as we are gonna get some frost comming up for a few days. All of my girls are cloudy with a bit of amber.
As long as they are somewhat cloudy, you can smoke it and get a good head high. Or do like you said, save for hash.:D

ok, will toss. thanks for doin some homework for me:D much appreciated!

i went back out there today, and none of it seems to be spreading, but when i took a closer look, every single spot that had mold on it, all had a small caterpillar in it. so it got me to wondering, is it the mold that brought the caterpillar? or was it the caterpillar that brought the mold?. i got rid of every caterpillar i saw, and did a somewhat thorough inspection of the rest of the buds, so hopefully that will be the last of it.

my bubblebags arrived in the mail today! so i took the sugar leaf from the first plant that i had stored in the freezer, and strained it through. im gunna dry them out for 48 hrs. on cardboard just like subcool says, so i will have a smoke report in a few days. im very happy with the result, and was surprised to get this amount from a little less than 2 oz of wet trim. these are the 1 gallon sized bags, and is the full 8 bag kit, and for anyone on the fence about getting a set or not, i assure you, THEY ARE WORTH IT:thumbsup:

the first two dont seem very pure, as they look grainy with a little bit of plant material still. the when it got to the fourth bag, thats when it became sticky. i cant touch any of the last 4 consistencies without them sticking to my fingers.

what do ya'll think?

more pictures coming...

more pictures.

the one that says 25 2x is when i strained the water through the last bag a second time after the first run.

hope you enjoy,

it smokes great! not harsh at all on the throat, but when it gets to your lungs, its a complete different story; the taste is awesome, but it feels like someone is punching your lungs from inside your body! haha. i dont mind coughing a bunch, and this is exactly what it did. but after all the coughing, i was left with a great high, that lasted long enough to be considered a legit high, so i am extremely happy with my very first batch of homegrown, homemade hashish:hippy::hippy::hippy:

and for you being on the fence about getting a kit inbud, i have just one thing to say about that; ORDER YOURS RIGHT NOW! lol, but seriously, you will LOVE them, no doubt!

so does everyone let their hash dry without pressing it? i really want to be able to crumble my hash in the next run through, and have it be full melt.
