i was watchin friends on sky the other day and it was thanksgiving and they were eating "yams" ive heard of them before,i was just wondering if someone over the pond might be able to tell me what they are? they sound weird

Actually yams are not sweet potatoes. They are totally different produce although people confuse them all the time.

yams are used frequently in west indian cookery very nice with goat rice and peas..

Most supermarkets and grocery stores here have them, mashed with regular potatoes and pureed parsnips they make gorgeous potato cakes fried on the pan, or oven roasted with garlic and rosemary mmmmmmm feel's like dinner time :rolleyes:

o yer i fort it was a moosy thing cos of this song on this program i watched wen i was about 4 about a yak eating yams in a yaught
Bubble n' squeak for those who don't know, is a dish of leftover mashed potatoes and vegetables ~ made into rounds, dusted with seasoned flour and fried on a hot pan with butter :p very tastey :)

I'm english and i eat and love bubble and squeak!!! I make it myself and you can even buy and order it from shops and restaurants! Each to their own is it not?! Wherever you may be?!
i make it aswel on the odd occasion.... ddnt realise you could buy it though.... bubble n squeak is traditionally a way to use up the day befores left overs.... best with ketchup :)

haha, jellied eels, gross.....
bubble n squeak are the left overs...... potatoe and vegetables, mostly mash n cabbage...... fry it all up in a frying pan.....
