Hi!:)
I had a discussion with my dad today. He told me that he knows about 7-8 people who smoke, and claims that none of them have a job and that you are doomed to loose your job if you smoke weed .

Of course I know that all this is bullshit, but I tought that I'd make a poll to find out just about what the percentage is. I smoke myself, and the reason he was having this "moral-speech" to me is that I'm going to Amsterdam next week. But the thing is, he smokes himself... Both because my stepmom told me, and because I found both his weed and hash as late as today. But he doesn't know that I know.:D

So, lets find out how many of you have a job. The reason I made this thread is to prove a point.

I work full time as a supervisor in a restaurant. I am a very heavy smoker, I just make sure not to go in to work all blazed up. The majority of the people I work with smoke pot and do various other things, but no one really cares, as long as you show up on time and do you job correctly and courteously.

The restaurant industry in general has always been a safe haven for pot heads. No restaurant will drug test because they know they'd have to fire 1/2 of their staff!

I run a resource center for people on the Oregon medical Marijuana Program.
Essentially, I am a teacher. I not only use MMJ, it is literally part of my work every day.
I am posting this from work.
And I have one of the house bongs in my other hand.

My SO works too. In a hospital.
She refers patients for Cannabis Therapy all the time.

I used to wash dishes but due to bad management I quit. Now that I am unemployed and stoned, I kind of regret it because if I would have stayed long enough and brown nosed good enough, I could of made dishwasher supervisor.

Let's see...I work for a major health system, have a Master's degree, and am a adjunct college professor. I make 6 figures, have 2 beautiful kids and have been married to the same person for 15 years. And I smoke daily.

I'm pretty sure your dad hasn't met me. People are so brainwashed to truly think you can't be a functioning "toker".

I don't really know if he actually believes this himself, considering he actually smokes himself. Maybe he's just trying to scare me from smoking.

I told him that the absolute majority of smokers have a perfectly normal life, but he wouldn't listen. Hehe, and he has no idea that I know he's smoking.

I use medically on a daily basis.

Special education has a very high "burn out rate". Most aides don't last more than two years. I started working with special ed kids when I was in 6th grade as a student helper. I've done it off and on since then (took time out for my own kids, and my education, etc). I don't burn out and cannabis is one of the main reasons. Teachers fight to get me in their class! I'm THAT good at what I do! The kids introduce me to their parents as "the lady who got me through__grade math". I get lots of hugs. My pay sucks, but I love my job!

Besides my job, I play FREERICE.COM on a daily basis-10,000 grains every day since before New Years (jumped the gun on my resolution :D ), I do genealogy, I paint, sculpt in wood and clay, am a championship level hand quilter, raise all my own cannabis, give demonstrations at school (a civil war dramatization based on an ancestor's life, and quilting), I dabble at vegetable gardening, herbal medicine, poetry, and meddling in folks' lives on boards like these!

I've used as much as possible for the last 40+ years. Yep- Granny is 60! And if pot were going to make me lazy, it should have done it by now. Have your Dad click the link in my sig to see what 40 years of heavy pot use can do to your motivation, dedication and drive! ;)

Just blaze on up in front of him and say...."Have some it's yours," once he gets all pissed say I was just kidding I didn't even know you had some.

You two should be smoking by the end of the night. LOL

Haha, yeah I should've done that, but I don't think he's gonna admit it. He comes from a really conservative christian family, and his personality is a bit "ignorant"(in loss of a better word). But I think im gonna tell him that I know about him smoking, and see how he reacts.:rastasmoke:

I am currently a student at boston university double majoring in athletic training and physical therapy. I hold a part time job as well. Cannabis helps me live my life in all aspects. I use both recreationally and medicinally to treat my arthritis. It has changed my life forever and no I'm not and never will be some drug war stereotypical pothead. Most people hanging around this site are not.

I run an analytical chemistry lab doing method development on work that is so groundbreaking that if I got into the details, you'd be able to trace me right to my actual research group. You'd be pleasantly surprised to know how many professors and researchers go home at the end of the day and unwind with a dry academic paper and a joint. I know it certainly helps me focus and solve problems in more creative ways. People who don't know I smoke would never suspect it, and people upon finding out for the first time that I smoke invariably react with disbelief and say, "I'd never guess in a million years; you don't act like a stoner!!" To which I reply, "No, I actually DO act like a stoner. I just don't act like the STEREOTYPE of the stoner."

I have always worked. I have always smoked. I was at one job 15 years, and was " Employee Of The Year" twice. I started a new job last year, and last month I was " Employee Of The Month". I am always reliable and responsible. My employers have NO idea I smoke. I'm sure they'd be shocked!

I got 2 jobs and im high as hell all through the day. I show up every day and my employers have no problem as they know ill work my ass off to get things done. there are lazy bastards in every walk of life, not just pot-heads. I realize what hes trying to do but being so hypocritical is not really a good trait to pass on to his son either.

I am retired military, a business owner(Mechanical(HVAC) Contractor) with a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a minor in Environmental Science, and a Master Technician. The *ONLY* reason I am not working for somebody else is I am "grossly over qualified" for 99% of the jobs available(They don't want to pay me what I am worth), and I don't care to relocate.

I am currently putting together a seminar/class to teach new contractors the business of running an HVAC business, and how to make their businesses profitable. I am doing this in anticipation of not being physicaly able to crawl attics and such for very much longer.

Well... i dont know in what option to vote... like... i get my own money by myself (at the financial market), but i have not a job.
So, technically, im unemployed, but for all practical purposes i could say im employed, cause i do afford myself.
What should be my vote then?

I currently work two part-time jobs which basically equal to a full-time schedule. I smoke daily (when I have some) and it has yet to effect my job status, performance, or drive. In fact, I was recently promoted. I'll be attending my sophmore year in college this coming fall. I smoke year-round. Hasn't hurt me yet.

Keep toking and don't believe the bullshit lies.

I know plenty of guys who would probably be better off not smoking tons of weed but then again, if they weren't smoking pot they would probably have psoriasis of the liver from alcohol. I'm on disability from a nasty forklift accident that basically tore my left knee to shreds. If it wasn't for pot, I would be using the strongest pharmacutical pain killers 24/7.

But back to your original question, it depends on the person. Some people are just lazy and use pot as n excuse.

I have a job, but I don't smoke. I'm on probation, so of course I can't. I probably won't smoke again until I move to an area that's more cannabis friendly.

Just watch out for jobs that drug test. Almost all jobs do a pre-employment piss test, but some jobs test randomly. I had to quit from one of my jobs because they popped a hair test on me over a year ago. :/

Good luck!

people who should not smoke at work:

1) pharmacists (they will mix up the quinine with the quinidine and stop some poor fucker's heart!)
2) airline pilots (remember john denver's "rocky mountain high?" what was the pilot smoking? he was actually crashing on a jet plane not leaving on one:(
3) active-duty military personnel (if they smoke weed they might just see through the bullshit propaganda their country is feeding them and might not want to fight a war)
4) radiation therapists (oopse, sorry mr. cancer man, we accidentally fried the wrong cells around your cancer and now you have to come back and see us even more. We'll bill medicare)
5) george bush-- (he is stupid enough without weed and prefers cocaine and oxycontin, I'm guessing)

people who probably smoke at work:

1)call center representatives (they are usually idiots anyways--and call centers don't drug test, generally. who works in a call center anyways????)
2) automobile mechanics.
3) Donald Trump -- tell me you wouldn't smok fat blunts with all his money??
4) nurses who deliver babies-- i would have to be high to look at what they look at all day.
5) the idiot at the smoke shop who tried to hit on my wife and as a consequence got a stern warning to never do it again!

haha that sounds exactly like me! I say fuck shoes man and I had really long hair (16 inches) up until this past thursday, cut all that shit off. Its so much nicer having short hair, but i was totally living the hippie dream before and up until i quit my job, i was smoking every day. I'm done smoking until I find another though. The lack of money kinda affects my smoking habits.
