How should I apply my lime?

Hello ,

I'm having trouble keeping my soil's (FFOF) PH from dropping, last time my water going in was 8.5 and runoff was 6.5-6.6. So whats the best plan of attack? I've read I can disolve 1 gal of waterand1tbsp of dolimte lime and this should buffer it. is this right?

I haven't used lime in my soil, yet...ph stays around 6.8.

We'll my starting tap water out of the faucet is around 7.5 , I then have to bump it up to about 8.5 to get a runoff off 6.6 , and it was just barlely there and i'm guessing it drops as it dries out? So that's what leads me to believe I do need some lime.

I'm confused and stoned...

...Why would you have to "bump up" your tap water? I use 7.3 ph well water in MG Moisture Control soil and stay at 6.8 ph....:thumbsup:

and how would you "bump it up"?

FFOF is essentially a soilless mix from what I can tell. It's fine to run it a little on the low side; watch your plants for signs that thye are unhappy. IF the plants look good, keep doing what you are doing!

at about when do you see the drop in PH? How long in? Repotting is supposed to help prevent it, but it still seems to happen to my plants during flower.
I am wondering the same question as you.

I am sure that FFOF has lime in it to begin, but can more be added in the beginning, or should it be added with water later on in the grow?

When the drop happens is a funtion of:
-initial soil pH
-initial soil lime content
-fertilizer solution pH
-source water hardness
-re-poptting schedule
-pot size

You can add a little more lime, but I would worry about adding TOO much. Instead, potting-up into only slightly larger pots, once every ~5 weeks, and making sure that your nute solution is not too acidic, will make your life easier.
