:weedpoke::weedpoke:Hello! I am long time patient, getting ready to invest in my first grow system. As a qualified patient, I would like to take advantage of my legal right to produce for self-medicating purposes. Unlike the operations of co-ops or caregivers, I just want something simple to satisfy my own medical needs.

I currently live in an apartment. I have no legal issues, because I have my legal right as a medical patient. However, I would like to respect the privacy of my neighbors by keeping my system discrete. The landlord is perfectly ok with it, as long as it stays discrete. I have concluded that a ??stealth? growing closet is the best way to go. I want to keep the sight and smell away from any neighbors. I have narrowed it down to a few different choices, but I have several concerns that I was hoping some of you could help me with. I do not want to build my own. I??d like to keep my price as affordable as possible?but I don??t want to ruin my crops with poor equipment. I only need enough to satisfy my own needs. I prefer to get a self maintaining cabinet?and I want to avoid a build it yourself closet operation.

I am a first timer with this, so I would really appreciated your help. I just bought the book by Jorge Cervantes, and plan to follow every step to ensure the best growth.

I have a few questions for you individuals who are filled with hydro/cannabis wisdom.

1. Is there a certain Grow Cabinet you suggest?
2. How much space (height-width-diameter) does a plant need in order to mature properly?
3. How much medicine can one plant produce in dried buds?
4. Do you feel that any of the choices below are good for me?

Do any of these choices look good enough for someone trying to satisfy their own medical needs? I??d much rather spend money on something pre built, than risk the problems and work involved with a build your own.

All of your help is much appreciated! Feel free to list additional suggestions and other items!

Thanks!

don't get the v3. no room, no cooling, just cooks plants. of your choices, i'd go with the DELUXE. cloning, vegging, flowering chambers are all there.be sure light cannot leak from veg chamber to flower chamber! honestly, i've DIY'd stealth cabs much better than those for around 1/2 the cost. with DWC, 400w digital, cfl's( for clone/veg chamber), and great ventilation. inside temps never get more than 3*F over ambient temp. I even DIY'd carbon filters to remove exhaust odors for under $35. i'm not trying to show off my skills, just letting you know that it is pretty easy and much more cost effective. with the money you save, you could get enough killer genetics to keep you with a nice variety for years to come. however you do it, just follow the advice here and you'll be on your way to medical independence. Stinkyattic is the bomb-diggity, listen to her and you'll be growin da dankness in no time.:)

Thank you, Happy! I definitely appreciate your input! I will look into a DIY option due to the cost effectiveness. Are there any resources on how to build one from scratch? I don't mind the work as long as I have detailed directions. I'd hate to spend 2,500 bucks on something I could make myself for half the cost. Any help is much appreciated!

:thumbsup:Thanks, again!

I think that a DIY version of the SuperCloset would be a nice choice. You can get standing tool closets at any department store, either plastic or particleboard. Some weatherstripping and a 4" hole saw will get you well on your way.

A 2-chambered system is ideal for keeping a mother and clones alive while you flower in the large section. Keep the mother section on the bottom, because of the heat generated by your lamp, and expect to run an air-cooled hood or 'cooltube' in the flower chamber.

Those pre-fab systems are expensive but make great models to copy from. Don't skimp on the blower for your flower chamber exhaust! This, more than anything else, will make or break yoru grow.

thank you, stinky! I am definitely considering a DYI cabinet. Are there any resources online on how to build one step by step? I don't mind the work as long as I know what I'm doing.

Thanks again!

here's a couple of pics of cab's i've built; first is a wardrobe from ikea ($200, i needed something that looked like nice furniture) the others are a stanley tool cabinet from home depot. hope these give you some ideas. i would go with dwc(deep water culture). i think its easiest in small cab's. just get a rubbermaid storage tub, able to hold 5 gallons at least. paint the outside black so light can't penetrate and grow algae in the nutrient reservoir. use ahole saw to make holes in th lid for your net pots. inside put airstones enough to oxygenate the nutrient solution. you almost can't have too much oxygen.(more bubbles = less root problems). make your light hanging system adjustable, so you can maintain the correct distance from plant tops. the most expensive things you'll be buying are your tds meter, lights, and vent fans. don't skimp on any of these. when planning your set-up, think about safety( electrical things off the floor away from possible spills), ease of maintenance, functionality. keep reading posts here, every thing you want to know is available. good luck, let us know how its going.

^^^EXACTLY!!!^^^
Plus the added benefit of an excuse to get blazed and wander around IKEA looking for the Swedish meatballs that smell so good. The colors! The textures! The screeching unattended children! The crazy Scandinavian design concepts! Oh hells yeah. I wish we had one near here.

Too bad this thread died down a bit...
I too am looking for an integrated closet/cabinet. Price is not really a huge issue, just looking more for convenience. Anyone seen the grow cabinets from BC Northern Lights? They look awesome, check em out (http://bcnorthernlights.com)!

If you know of any other "integrated" grow boxes - cabinets - closets - wardrobes, whatever post a link what you think about it

:DI too like the original poster was looking for a simple answer to lifetime need. I think all of those DIYers out there have the right idea with cost, hower cost effectivenes and the the Preassembly of the Super Closet Deluxe was the draw for me. If I wanted or had time to build one I would... but this system is as easy as it gets and it has improved. Not only is it light tight but its airtight and the have added fans to have a greater cooling effect. I I have many friends that have their own growth systems and mine triples their harvests.

Oh and that three year guarantee and customer service, it pays for itself. And if I made it I would have to go online and figure it out.

Love my system, would reccommend it to anyone!!!

bumping in hopes of finding updates and current info on these contained units. The Super Closet and others are pricey, but buying a secret jardin, lights, fans, etc...is it that much cheaper in the end?

It's hard to overestimate the allure of having something preassembled and delivered to one's doorstep.

Just ordered a SuperLocker made by SuperCloset. Was initially interested in the larger units like those mentioned at the top of the thread, but as it is for personal use I figured I could go smaller. Should fit nicely in my bathroom. Four plants at a time will be enough...true subsistence farming!

There was a Thanksgiving special and I can pick it up nearby for no shipping cost.

What really tipped it for me is I have surgery coming up and will be one-handed for some time so construction isn??t in the cards right now. Won??t get it unti the end of the year though, but I guess the holiday season will be busy enough without starting a new project.

My prob is it is MUCH easier to buy something a few pieces at a time and put it together than to save up the $ for the full thing...

The hydro store I go to has the Homebox line, looks pretty sweet how they have the XXL set up in the store so you can see all the components.

There are many choices out there for those that want to purchase a turnkey grow box for their medicinal needs. Many factors go into choosing a proper pre-built grow box, such as available funds, size of unit, cost to run, etc. A good choice when weighing all factors might be The Scrog Box. The price is right, very inexpensive to run, and the yield per unit size is spectacular!
