are vapor genies close enough to electric vapes to be worth 50 dollars? or are they just half pipe half vape?
do they emit as little smell as a vape?

Just got my genie last Thursday. Early impressions are great! It is an absolutely functional vaporizer. All vapor. So for the price it can't be beat. I'm hardly a seasoned pro when it comes to vapes, I've never used the really high end models like the Volcano and what not... I'm sure it's not as clean and smooth as those but, again, for the price you're still getting an honest to goodness vaporizer that is well made and has a whole lot of advantages electric vapes don't have to boot.
The smell is very incognito. When you travel with a loaded bowl, you can't smell it at all. The smell of the vapor dissipates very quickly. I have noticed though that when it is carrying vaped herb, it's starts to give off an odor, so it may not be a bad idea to carry a small plastic bag or find a place to dispose of it.
It's really cool that you can travel with this in your pocket, with a lighter, and vape just about anywhere. I decided to put it to the test a couple of days ago and vaped at work, right at my desk. Of course I knew I could do it and not get caught or I wouldn't have tried, but that's exactly it, all of the sudden I can pull off crazy ass stunts like that when I wouldn't have dreamed of it before...
Not that I plan to make a habit of pushing the limits of what I can get away with, but the $50 I spend on it is already well spent.

Tobacco pipes are terrible for herb.
I'm guessing this vapor genie has a learning curve because you have to find your heat setting.

The learning curve is grasping how important the rate of inhale is to getting the right heat setting for vaporization. With conventional pipes if you're inhaling, you're getting it. The concept that you should inhale slower if you're not getting anything is counter intuitive to many...
I'm still lovin' the genie. I figure with a genie, a lighter, and one of the old dorm and livin' with the folks days fabric softener tubes, you could vape detection free in just about any public bathroom stall (best if no one else was in there of course). The tube diffuses the vapor so it dissipates very quickly, and as ineffective as they are for covering up smoking, it absolutely devours the scent of vapor.
