In 2000, there was a group known as Democrats for Bush. It wasn't a big group, but they made their point, and a lot of them got appointments after Bush won the White House.
Now, with apologies to Orson Welles, there is "Citizens for McCain," an organization spearheaded by none other than Sen. Joe Lieberman, the independent from Connecticut who ran as the Democratic Party's candidate for vice president in 2000.
"Citizens for McCain is an organization within the McCain campaign for people who put country before political party and support the presidential candidate who has a proven record of bipartisanship," Lieberman said of this collection of independents and Democrats aligning with the Republican Party's presumptive nominee for president.
Their first act: "a virtual town hall'' today, a telethon of sorts, with Democrats and Independents discussing McCain's promise for the presidency.
