Not sure, but I'll look into it.

With that said, are you logging in first to the message boards?...

If you bookmarked the Chat page, that will not work. You must login to the boards first, then click the Live Chat link.

If you are logging in and doing all of that with no success...then try logging out and then logging in again...then retry getting into chat.

Let me know if any of the above helps...if not, are you getting the chat page at all - if not, exactly what error(s) do you get.

I've tried all the above and it still don't work!! :( what happens is when I click on the chat link the page comes up but there is just a grey box where the chat space should be and there is a coffee icon in the top left hand corner, at the bottom of the page it says java has finished loading but the chat service is still not working!

Sounds like you are logged in perfectly fine since the chat is loading.

However, from what you describe it sounds as if your Java either isn't compatible (less likely, but possible) or more likely you are running a firewall program that is blocking some ports on your computer.

From my understanding, the chat program uses a non-80 port number for chatting - such non-80 port connections are blocked by some firewall programs.

In short, do you have a firewall program and/or anti-virus software running on your computer?

If so, try checking the connection logs (most such security software logs connections) for error messages about ports/connections being blocked around the same time you tried the chat.

Hope this helps.

Still curious about if you're running a firewall/anti-virus...

But you did say that sometimes you can get on the chat...so port blocking may not be it.

Perhaps the problem is the connection itself...are you on dial-up?

Regardless, next time try waiting a few minutes after you see the Java is loaded message - perhaps the chat just needs a few extra moments to fully load and establish a connection.
