Getting a little more growth now. :rastasmoke:
sunshine mix #4 with blood/bone meal For starting few weeks of organic feed. Also used a dolomite soil conditioner to prep soil and even out PH and adics in soil. I put about 3 inchs of small gravel at bottom of each hole dug. Now feeding 20-20-20 till Aug Then will start my bloom feed. Strains are Couchlock Black Velvet Kushx some strains from friends to try outdoors and a mix from Vancouver Seed Bank. Most are female from clone and there are a few going from seed. Just pulled out 2 males today. They were about 4 feet tall allready...

Nice pix, enjoying them a great deal---as I aspire to grow that well! When you pinched, did you happen to demostrate it? I read this and think it has been shortened somewhere, but I have read so many and subscribed to few, I am screwed up!

Hey I didnt take any pics of the pinch or topping i did do. But have recently done a little pics doc on "bending" And have some plants on my belcony That i can show and show how its done. CRAZY amount of bud sites by just bending and not having to "top" or "pinch" most the ones in these pics were just left and not many were topped or pinched after put em out from clone. Most are from clones I selected but have another spot with about 30 more from seed that im doing a breeding project with. I will also upload some pics of that spot.:rastasmoke: most the plants are now 3-6 feet tall theres one thats allmost 8 feet tall allready... still got 2 months of veg :P Thank god for the 25 foot bamboos around the spot :D

Been watching and enjoying your hard work and grow. Plus, learning a lot--thanks!! Appreciate all the info you post, for my future outdoor grow. doubt I'll ever know enough, but I'll get a camera first, then learn how to use it and I know where to go for help!
So far, your first grow seems to be going seemless; hope to follow in that wisdom!

Yeah its all a learning experince. Can never learn it all and you can pick and choose the info you feel works best for your growing conditions... This isnt my first grow actully. I actully posted my grow last year on here also. This is my 7th outdoor and 5 have made it 1 hasnt "thiefs" hope this year turns out! never had em this big at this time of year... good season so far forsure! Every year i try something new or try a new tech Its good way to increase yield and product quality allways trying new ideas and methods.. you will learn what works best and what doesnt...

Here is some pics of my "bending" tech Works great for keeping plants short and bushy

I've never seen bending, it's pretty interesting. so do you just pinch and bend the stem while it's well watered so it doesn't break and/or take your time bending in one certain point until it sticks?(stays bent)

bcgrown
07-09-2008, 06:13 AM
Well with the bending I do, I like to pick branches that have got a certain size and have good nodes to pick your bend.
Also pick a hard wood branch soft wood will just snap and die.

Bend in between the nodes so they are both "exposed" they will then brach up and you can bend those also once they reach that height and "hardwood" and have the nodes you like to pick to branch up. I like to allways bend them away from the center so that the inner center branches get light then and grows up to fill in nice and bushy.

I like to hold the branch in my fingers, then bending it down kinda like fold it over your finger "dont pinch it" VERY gently till the bend makes it go "limp" let it hang from there and let good light and air movement get on the plant from there on... this will heal "thicker stem from that point" it will start to go up "towards light" the inner parts of that branch will now grow out creating more branches "bud sites".
If you do this right you can create alot more bud sites and side branching and "force" them to grow in ways you want. Works great for people growing in shorter spaces also..

Here is how I do it :rastasmoke:

Hope you understand all that haha.. I'm mighty stoned right :wtf: now..

This is so bitchin! I've read a lot of threads and it seems all feel we know bending, lst, and tying! I am an idiot that needs a good photo to get the message! Your demonstrations are rad! I have to set up a printer to record how to, until I learn! You have no clue how much help you are being! I know it is a lot of work and want you to know how much I appreciate your help-u R a gem! Keep it up and please don't drop off! I need this info! Not just in growing, but stealth, etc! and how to protect in the outdoor environment.

There is so much reading to do, I may read forever before I try to wet my feet again. I think I said, I put some old bag weed seed to gro and got nothing! I know what went wrong now. Now, I will plan much better and learn through you experts in progress!

I just love looking at how to do it and how healthy you plants are! I have had gardens in the past and just get a buzz from veges (tomato) or anything growing. So, I think this will turn into a hobby, i hope to control within my legal limit. I tend to get carried away with pretty plants! Turns me on! Appreciate your sticking with us and the easy instructions! I need bush more than height, due to fear! I have received a generous dose of err of the side of caution and now am planning much better! Thanks to you and a few others! Please keep it coming, if it isn't too much time and trouble!

You are quite the teacher my friend. I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to answering my question. Yes that was a perfect/flawless lesson in bending. The pictures say it all, very nice tutorial. I believe it should be made a sticky for further the educating of fellow growers here.

Thank you bcgrown, you have the bending technique down pat lol. I will be sure to use this method in the future.

Here is a update from today July 21. Starting to bud and will be going onto the "Dr. Hornby's Big Bud" Ferts I think its a 0-15-40.

A few strains have yet to start budding but will switch over once they start. :rastasmoke: There are a few plants that are about 6-8 feet tall.
:rastasmoke: Starting to clear out the lower branches so that the top colas get the juice and can produce more BUDS.

And also will attached my breeding spot pictures.. They are a kush cross "about 20 seedlings 3 female clones mixed in of a widow cross." and I got a nice 5 foot blueberry "female" in there that im gonna knock up also. Should get some nice seeds from this batch and will try em out indoor over the winter.

ENJOY!:rastasmoke:

Question about bending.

What if your stem breaks open on one side when you bend it?

bcgrown
07-23-2008, 02:52 AM
If it does this it means you have picked a soft tissue stem or to hard of a tissue or you have maybe bent it a little hard and snaped the tissue open, it may heal but would suguest to try to prop it up so it doesnt break off completly.
Try to pick the more hard wood branches but not to hard of a tissue if they are to soft they will break and snap and if there to hard they will also snap and the bend wont be as affective or the branch part above the bend will just die from shock. I think its best to try it a few times till you know what to feel for.

IF it fails try try agian. :rastasmoke:

All is well. I decided to LST and/or bend my plants. I even topped a few 2 or 3. They're all doing well today. :D

The one that I thought was doomed had a vertical split on one side edge of the "bend". Its about .5cm wide and 2cm long, the area of the damaged stem.

Now I just wait for the bent stems to heal.

bcgrow - some of my stems that I bent the other day have rehealed, have a big knot in the stem where I bent them over, AND standing STRAIGHT UP as if I never bent them.

Should I keep them tethered down while the bent section heals or just keep bending the stem(s) in new spots?

Thanks.

Yeah this will happen sometimes you can do another bend but try not to on the same branch. I would just leave it tied down and let it go that way. Can you notice the diffrence on the part above the bend?

Try try try agian. You will get it. But i think the way you have em tied down in your pics i saw on other thread you have. That way works fine also. Go with what works best for yourself.

I just leaned(didn't bend) them over and used aluminum wire to stake them to the ground. Wrap one end of the wire around the main stem and the other end of the wire in the dirt.

They're not really hurting, maybe some rubbing but not much. I made the wire loop around the stem and wide enough so that its not constricting the plant. The wire isn't really easily noticed so I'm not worried about that. :)

BB can be finiky, but BB does well outdoors for myself "In my region" but mine also is a crossed up BB so that might explain. Genetics meh.. lol. Indoors she preforms well also. Please keep up all the good info for us noobs that are dying to grow like you!

Basically, I have read many strains grow slow or fast: In your opinion, it depends a lot on the grower?? Technic's etc?

Those bending pix are awesome, I would never bend that much, if you had not illustrated like that. My experience, with a tomato plant, it died when I did that-accidently! I think with your instructions, I think I can do it right--on purpose!!!

Hope the bending gets posted, will try!

Thanks PR
About the question you askd about strains grow slow or fast, its all about gentics, we as growers can only do things like "trick" plant into flowering quicker some ferts or nutes say they speed up the bud production giving you a quicker flowering product, But ya we as growers can do little things to speed things up but not by much and somtimes this means less quality and height, weight in the end product. It all depends though on the method, strain etc..

hehe little pic of myself from behind also so you guys can get size idea. I did a little over fert on last feed so, I did a straight water this time to give them another week to recover. I will do a half feed next fert and will switch to bloom ferts for the plants that are going from preflower to flower. Yeah I wanted them to grow taller I'm not worried about how tall they get, it is just a pain when checkin the tops/buds when they are budding. I have a log I prop up and stand on to check the ones that are over 10 foot. But yah for the areas were its needed to keep them Lower I top/bend.

I wanted trees this year ;) :rastasmoke:

Yeah the chem is not safe to myself/others and the environment. And since I'm doing larger grows now I feel its only right that I switch to a total organic. I Do like to flush like a mofo a few weeks before just to be sure they burn clean no chem tastes. But growing strains with unknown flowering times this might be a problem as I wont know exactly when to flush.. Playin it safe though forsure :)

Next update this weeknd. They have packed on some SERIOUS weight in the last 2 weeks :D

I will bring the tape mesure in there and have a look at how tall that one is now haha.. I'm guessing around 18-20 footer :wtf:

Thanx for the learnin! U Roc with all the nice pix and illustrations! Plus, it seems like a lot of sneaky fun! The kind I loved half a life ago! Dream of now! As you age the fun you have now will last a long time! Keep it up! PR

Health issues and environmental issues. Doing it organic it will be 100% natural and yes organic bud just tastes better... I go for quality i couldnt care less about weight and using these chem ferts "I grow in ground now" so its not safe to the plants/animals and lakes/rivers/streams that run near or around grow locations. Once it floods or rains hard all that chem ferts that are dumpd in ground will wash away and effect the life around.:hippy:

bc: when that timber falls we will feel the earthquake in California!!! I am still laughing at the woodchuck lol so funny!

How did the little birdies do? Guess they are having babies now! It was cute!

Your pictures are so awesome, translucent, just makes me wanna toke!

In an earlier post, you mentioned trimming the lower portions. I was curious, did you clone them or toss um? Like post # 89 around there!

Once heck of a Halloween party in BC!!!

Another little question. You mentioned bamboo! I have a good source for some and my property has some rough terrain. So, I thought I would plant bamboo all around the parcel. Any advice to get it to grow fast? Or would you even advise me to use it? About how long to get them at least 10 feet tall (unlike your 20' plus logging trees) I have somewhere between 3 1/2 - 5 acres, heaven only knows for sure. Yes, it has been surveyed, but the county likes to take chunks and all the parcels are being sold around me and they like sticking their spikes inside mine! Since, I am sort of on an island, I don't care how much they take, as long as they stay on their side and I don't pay the taxes for it! Not really, I just got tired of trying to fight it. I have the area I want! Whoops, a bigger ? than I thot!

Those 20 footer's, how big is the cola? How hard is it to cut them down? Chainsaw or ? Just curious!

I keep going back and looking at your pix and I think I'd like to take a nap in the middle of the grow! Bet, it would be the best one of my life!!! haha ya that woodchuck would piss me off.. eat my home grown food lol get the heck outa here!!! live trap it and release it 100 miles away lol

The bamboo I use grows from ground around may "spring time" it starts and will grow till nov "it flowers like marijuana and drops seeds also dies off " I try to research the plants/trees around were I will grow as they can play a big role in cover/smell knowing when they die off and start to yellow helps know whats a good area and whats not.. There are diffrent types of bamboo and some grow very tall and lanky and some grow thick/bushy and fast like the ones around my area. They are perfect cover and blend nice with the plants. Also the soil around them is great for growing with just adding a few things to the soil to make it right. They like lots of water so a water source near by that they feed off of cause man they love water lol "keep that in mind cause you dont wanna have to worrie about watering bamboo to keep your plants coverd ;)

Those lower branches were cloned off . No waste goes on here :)

They are starting to fill in nice I will take pics of them this weeknd. haha a few are starting starting to fall over. Going to have to tie em back to the bamboo around "another reason I like having it right near bamboo they make wicked stakes and tie offs for your plants ;)
colas are getting nice and thick on the 20 footer and there is one thats about 15 feet and all the buds are totally purple now "the black velvet" I will take pics of that one also forsure. Cooler temps are bringing out the colours :D I will chop the big ones with my machete btw hahaha. gonna be a hack job forsure.

Glad ya dig the pics. Will take pics of breeding section also.

I do my trimming it in 3 stages.. lol first fan leafs let it dry a day or 2 then do the mid size leafs... then at day 5-7 I do the small/tiny leafs. Then goto seable jars/containers for at least 2 weeks air it out every day 2/3 times for 10-20 mins at a time. I like to test it out till I cure till its nice and smooth depending on strain..

You need to do more reading. All your questions can be answered by reading the basic growing stickies. I recommend reading more before starting a grow. There are other things you should know before starting (other than male vs. female, hours of sunlight, etc.)

look for a more recent thread than 2009 to ask your questions, like 2011.
