Hey guys, I only smoked weed like 6x, but from the first time I started smoking my friends always told me to take really big hits and to hold it in for like 30 seconds. My lungs kind of feel weird now and they feel wheezy. I also feel a little bit shortness of breath... This shouldn't be happening because I only smoked like 6 times. Is there anything wrong with me?

Please respond, I am kind of concerned, thanks. Weed for life. :rastasmoke:

The longer you hold in any kind of smoke, the more time it has for doing some harm to your lungs. Aside from that, there could be quite a few factors about why it might have affected your lungs. It's possible you could have an allergy to something within the plant material itself, which has it's share of bad chemicals that are released from burning it. The weed you smoked might not have been flushed properly before it was harvested, which can make the smoke much more harsh and has more bad chemicals that really shouldn't be inhaled.

I usually hold in the smoke for about 5-10 seconds. Once in a while I'll hold it in as long as I possibly can and when I exhale there is little or no smoke - that means all the bad stuff has stuck to my lungs... And doing that more often isn't good at all.

If you're not getting the full effect from smoking it due to having to exhale too soon, then you should really try to vaporize it.

Your friends are definitely wrong. It doesn't matter at all whether your hit is big or if you hold it in.

I agree with Turny. Been smoking for 40 years and have always held in a long time. My lungs check out fine.

I used to hold my hits in for as long as reasonably possible to but then I saw somewhere that it only takes a couple seconds for your lungs to absorb all the THC in the hit. I recently started smoking my weed like tobacco, holding it in just slightly longer than a cigarette and I didnt notice any decrease in the high, just less discomfort and coughing. Another thing to consider, if you smoke alone the longer you hold your hits in the slower you smoke and the longer your weed just burns.

Yeah, while I can't recall the exact figures it only takes somethin like 4-5 secs for your lungs to absorb some 95% of the THC content.

Stay high.

Somebody here recently said that you should hold in vape hits longer. Since I always held my hits before vaping, it comes naturally to me.

good to see the 18 and older screening process doing it's job :S2:

I hold my hits until I start to hear my brain cells explode. But that's just out of habit. I don't recommend it.

I've read it from the words of Jack Herer, perhaps in his book.

Trust Jack, holding your hits for excessive amounts of time is only oxygen deprivation providing a placebo effect.

About that absorption of 95% within the first few seconds, it sounds totally right to me too.

Still yet, that's absorption by Area, not Volume...
That's 95% of the smoke that has a chance to be absorbed in your lungs... Smoke hanging around within the middle space (volume) of your lungs won't get to come into contact with the lung surface (area) for long enough for all cannabinoids to be taken. But for the bit of smoke that touches the Area of your lungs, yeah, 95% of that much sounds right.

Big hits with a thick cloud of smoke are wasteful. Think of it like cutting the smoke with air for an efficient absorption ratio. So, take an average inhaled hit, hold it a few seconds, and blow it out. The "less is more" philosophy.

i agree with everyone here. i have some friends however that always get me to play what they call "baseball" where you have to hold in your hit til the pipe comes back around to you. i always thought it was geigh.

baseball, spff, i remember people doing that when i was a lot younger, i always said hell no, just blew my hit out and called them idiots

the less is more theory, i dunno, i don't believe in holding in the smoke forever, but something about a big ass bong rip gets me a lot higher, holding it for a second or two

No 30 seconds is plain stupid. 10 seconds is my limit when i hold it. But a lot of THC is absorbed pretty quick so holding it in just damages your lungs.

you hate it when people blow out thick smoke? that's weird, you hate weird things.

Holding it makes all the difference in the world about how high you get. I couldn't imagine holding it too long unless you're highly concerned about the adverse physiological effects. It's pretty normal for your lungs to feel kinda numb or tingly and wheezy after inhaling concentrated thick smoke. You'll be fine.

I never hold smoke in for too long.

However sometimes when I smoke with people they do. But if that's how they want to smoke it then thats their thing.
