Wings beat Pens, 3-2, to win Cup

There's no place like the road for the Detroit Red Wings, who won the Stanley Cup with a 3-2 Game 6 victory over the Penguins tonight at Mellon Arena.
The Red Wings clinched their fourth playoffs series away from home, as Henrik Zetterberg -- winner of the Conn Smythe trophy as playoffs Most Valuable Player -- scored the game-winner at 7:36 of the third period before a crowd of 17,132, the Penguins' 67th consecutive sellout.
The Red Wings won the Stanley Cup for the 11th time in franchise history and first time since 2002, overcoming Monday's triple-overtime loss to beat the Penguins, four games to two, in the best-of-seven series.
Detroit also had to withstand a frantic Penguins rally in the final minutes, as Sergei Gonchar scored a power-play goal with 1:27 remaining. Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood turned away several last-second shots, a backhand by Sidney Crosby and the redirect by Marian Hossa, to preserve the victory.
The clincher came on Zetterberg's goal, his 13th of the post-season and one that tied him with Crosby for the playoffs scoring lead at 27 points. Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped Zetterberg's shot, but the puck dropped behind him and Fleury fell backward and knocked it into the net at 7:36 of the third period.
The Red Wings took a 1-0 lead on defenseman Brian Rafalski's power-play goal at 5:03 of the first period. The Penguins failed to score in kind, despite a two-man advantage that lasted one minute, 33 seconds.
The Red Wings extended their lead to 2-0 at 8:07 of the second, when Valterri Filppula flipped a backhand rebound between Fleury's legs for his fifth playoff goal.
But Evgeni Malkin cut it to 2-1 with a power-play goal, slapping a one-timer through Osgood's five-hole at 15:26 of the second period. It was Malkin's 10th playoff goal, but his first since Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final.
