A new television advertisement the Marijuana Policy Project introduced Tuesday in some markets of New York state supports the legalization of medical marijuana.
The Marijuana Policy Project also seeks "to replace marijuana prohibition with a sensible system of regulation," according to its Web site.
New York becomes the fifth state to see this type of ad, which feature sick and injured patients who urge the public to pass laws to protect them from arrest or jail time for using marijuana. Local versions of the ads were introduced in Vermont and Montana in 2004, Rhode Island in 2005 and in Minnesota this year.
Assembly Health Committee Chairman Richard Gottfried, a New York City Democrat, has introduced legislation that would legalize marijuana for medicinal use. Senator Vincent Leibell, a Republican whose district includes Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties, also introduced a similar bill.
New York's ad features Burton Aldrich of Kingston, a quadriplegic father of five who says marijuana is the only thing that relieves his chronic pain.
Commercials are a powerful marketing tactic of prescription drug companies and a popular method for discouraging illegal drug use.
Since 1996, 12 states have enacted laws that allow patients to use medical marijuana: California, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Mexico, Nevada, Montana, Colorado, Maine, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii and Washington State. According to federal law, marijuana use is illegal regardless of whether it's used medicinally.

This type of ad will definately help the cause for alot of people and I hope they continue on more of a national level. On a side note, best of wishes to Burton Aldrich and family.
Have a good one!
So now kids are gonna see above the influence commercials that tell them only losers smoke weed, and other commercials that tell them weed is medicine. Seems like the message here is that taking medicine is not cool.

Seeing all the posts you have 40oz I thought you would understand the cause. Commercials do not teach kids and if you feel that way I'm sorry you are wrong. Parents raise and teach their children what's acceptable and not. Just like your professional athletes are not supposed to be role models.
Well I really think that it is great that NY seems to be on track to be the next medicinal state and great pick up on your behalf Mr Corleone (THE DON). How soon can this take effect considering the state is now Decriminalized. What ever that may mean, my friend was just Picked up and charged for a 1/2 Lb and they are trying for a felony. Lawyer said no way but when I mentioned Decriminalized he laughed and said it is just for a single joint they will right you a DAT (Desk Appearance Ticket) I guess as long as the ball is rolling then it's good for fellow growers. It is unbelievable the way state laws override federal laws. Just a border can mean jail or a compliment on how nice your garden is doing. I do have to go back and see my lawyer cause I paid him for legal advice and consult time just to pick his mind god forbid his services will be needed. I try to always look ahead at all options. 40oz I have 2 boys and just cause their dad may smoke a joint does not mean they will. I raised them with certain morals and beliefs. It is very unfortunately that today most kids do learn from a television. It's not the TV's fault it's the fault of their parents. How many kids parents don't want to talk about birth control and the kids come home 18yrs old telling their dad's they will soon be dad's themselves. If you teach them they will learn. Perfect example "hey kid make sure you were condoms you don't want to start a family at 18 yrs old do you". Guess what they all answer NO but they are learning shit in a locker room instead of at home and there are tons of kids having kids today. I really got off track here I was wondering if there is anymore info on this NY politics coming anytime soon...
Thanks Great Post GLEE

awesome pick up by the don. GL420 I agree with you a good deal, its not the media that is mainly at fault, its the parents that dont monitor their kids (though the media could use a swift kick in the butt, regardless :P)

Oh no, I understand the cause. I was just making a point of how confusing all these mixed truths in the media must be on kids. Plus if commercials didn't have any effect, people wouldn't be spending millions of dollars on them. Parents can only do so much, it is up to the individual kid to let the lessons stick. I'm no parent though, so theres really no reason to listen to what I think about it.

Yea I agree, but don't forget that kids are influenced by other things than just parent's words of wisdom.

I also agree, thanks to Censorship which every record company and radio stations argues ( I'm not a fan either). You will not see that commercial on before 9 PM. My kids go to sleep @ 9 PM. The guy next doors kids stay up all night. His 6 yr old kid is blowing off Block Busters (FIREWORKS) and is up all night. That will be the kid you read about that hit someone in the head with a bat killing them.
Come on NY Legalize Medicinal.
Local Politicians just GOV
NJ Gov admits he is gay and steps down.
NY Old (2 Months Spitzer) GOV Screwing a Escort that lives in NJ
New Blind GOV swinging and having affairs on wife.
He is blind so he does not know what he is smoking or who he is doing.. LOL He actually seems like a cool guy not your average politician.

I agree, it doen't look good for this year.
My father, who was originally from upstate NY, used to blame the ignorant shitkickers up there for the voting in of the worst politicians, usually Republicans, resulting in decisions from Albany that hurt everybody in the state but the rich. That was long before MMJ was even an issue, and it's still happening.
Heres what anti-immigrant whackjob NYS Assemblyman Greg Ball, a Republican, said the other day:
"Instead of real accomplishments on jobs, taxes, and healthcare, the Assembly Democrat 2008 highlight reel includes the legalization of marijuana, turning hunters into criminals and passing a tax on the internet. The legislature in Albany is a taxpayer funded boondoggle and represents an assault on everything that is good and decent in New York," said Ball.

That is a very good initiative for changing the law and I agree, for the most part, with it - but it's for California. This thread is about the Medical Marijuana bill in New York State.
