I have a question about lighting.

I was considering growing a good 2, maybe 3 plants in a nice sized walk in closet. The room will definetly support 2 - 3 plants plus MANY MANY more, but i still don't want to go overboard, even though i have the space

I was thinking of a 250 watt HID light, that should EASILY cover 2 plants, that will grow at max, maybe 2 cubic feet.

My question is, would this be a good light to go with for the setup i am currently going for?

T5 Fluorescent & HID Grow Lights for Plants from ACF Greenhouses (http://www.littlegreenhouse.com/accessory/lights2.shtml)
Here is the link of the website, but for those who dont want to go there, ill just copy and paste exactly what im looking at:

Mini Sun 250 HPS (28,500 lumens) Price: $165

The Mini Sun lights are among the most economical lights available, but you still get the quality you have come to expect from Sunlight Supply. These lights feature a 95% reflective (top in the industry), spectral pebble insert that gives you better light distribution than painted reflectors. HID light comes prewired and completely assembled.

Includes: built in ballast, 250 or 400 HID bulb, and mounting hangers. Size 24" x 12". Requires 110/120 volt outlet. Weight: 250 is 26 lbs., 400 is 30 lbs.

Anyway, any thoughts? I definetly plan on maximixing the potential of all my light, and don't plan to waste any of it. so on 2 plants, 2 ft in size max, would this light be sufficent?

Also, it says it includes a ballast with the light, all prewired, so i assume that would save me tremendous costs, for someone who wants to just grow 2 plants for personal use.

Thanks in advance!

I was really leaning towards a T5, not because im am sure heat will be an insane issue, but because i will soon be moving out of state, to a rental 4 bedroom home. So i don't know the exact setup on what my room will offically look like until i am moved in.

So i have no idea if heat will be an issue, my proper ventilation would just be a nice fan, and the closet door being opened from time to time, so heat definetly could be a problem.

Anyone have a link to a nice 250watt HID T5 light?

Ok guys, this seems to be the winner!

High Tech Garden Supply (http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=47981)

Let me know any input you'd like to give on this. it seems the perfect setup, 400 Watt HPS as well as a 400 watt MH. Timer and Ballast included. All for a good price, which is the only skeptical thing about this.

It seems to good to be true, I've seen similar light setups that cost more then this whole package does, so tell me what you guys think.

Also i heard 250 watts is enough for 2 - 3 plants easily, this is a 400 watt package. While it is more wattage, its still a great price. So do you think it would be fine to use 400 instead of 250 when im not growing any more then the orgininal 2 - 3 plants?

Also, I wanted to minimize wattage because of high power bills i may experience, that being said, would this 400 watt be expensive to run? If so, would the 250 be any cheaper?

Most of the Video Tutorials i run across seem to show the setup of professional grow rooms, rooms that house up to like 40 plants. So they make the power consumption alot more troublesome, then someone like me, who just wants a few plants.

THANKS GUYS! :rastasmoke:

Make sure you get a digital ballast, otherwise heat will be a problem

I got a 600 watt for 4 plants and 3 ended up males so right now i got one lonely lady under a 600 watt

what a waste of electricity >_<

Would heat be a big problem if i had a nice sized walk in closet, but just a small 2 - 3 plants? I mean it shouldnt be a cramped space, and opening the door from time to time to air out is NOT a problem at all :) I dont need to hide the growing from insiders, i am just worried about smell to outsiders.

JUST MY 2CENTS. Save yourself the time & money, fuck the T5 & grab an HPS from HTG or wherever, much better use of watts vs lumen imo. If you go with the T5s you will probably buy end up buying an HPS(400-600watt) for flowering or just growing in general in the not too far future.
