I have a family member that works in the legal field that involves criminal offenses.

One thing I really dont understand and find completely outrageous is the sentences that some people get for violent crimes vs. non-violent crimes (like ones involving cannabis).

Rapists, even ones that use a weapon, on average get a sentence of 2 months in prison, and are usually released to a half-way house within 1 month of serving their sentence.

And I'm talking about real scum-bags, and that it wasnt their first offense and definitely wont be their last either!

And yet, people that grow their own (I mean small amount of plants) or possess a large amount of the material, or even crimes that involve things like fraud, embezzlement, where no one got physically hurt, and their life was no way in danger end up going to prison for a lot longer.

How is this logical? How is this sane in any way?

So grow a few silly plants, hurt no one, and you go to prison.

A person rapes someone, violently, and destroy their life basically, and you'll get a slap on the wrist.

Has humanity gone insane? Have they lost their logical thought processes? Or compassion for that matter!

I pulled this from another website. Its the yearly cost to the government (aka taxpayer) of having someone in prison:

$110,223 (maximum security level)
$71,640 (medium security level)
$74,431 (minimum security level)

I dont know, but I personally would like to see my tax dollars being used to lock up violent criminals and rapist scum, and I would much rather have those caught with cannabis (excluding organized crime) be set free, or at least pay some sort of tax to grow or buy and just be left to live their lives in peace.

I don't know about Canada's penalties, but convicted rapists in the US usually serve years, not months, in prison.
