I was seriously ill for about two weeks, so I lost my outdoor plants to neglect and insects (no biggie ) ... my 2 little indoor strays are still alive and doing OK ...the Killa Queen is healthy but kinda puny, and the Sour Jack is doing just fine ... this was my first indoor grow, where I shortened the vegetating period, like a lot of people do ... (3 weeks of vegging, instead of my usual 6-8 weeks) ... I won't be doing that again :D, while the plants are healthy enough, their size and yield is greatly compromised ... a waste of electricity this time around, I think ... I have experimented a LOT over the years, and every time I veer away from 'Nature's way' of doing things, I am not impressed with my results ... once again, I swear by 18/6 and 12/12 light schedules ... 6-8 weeks of vegging, and maturing until the first amber trichs appear ... no SuperThrive, except in early stages of cloning, BLUE wave lamps for vegging, and RED waves for flowering ... I also don't freakout when something looks wrong with a plant, I just wait it out, most of the time ... Mother Nature did a lot to protect her plants, and I am firmly convinced more harm is done trying to 'fix' a plant, when just waiting it out usually suffices ... since I ain't too sharp, anyway, I just light up a joint, and let 'Her' do it for me ... Killa Queen on the left, Sour Jack on the right, both in Day 35 of flowering ...

You DAWG you! pimpin....
Never fear, I'm doing an F2 backup on the genetics so they are never lost- although the catpiss is out of the bubblebag, and NCDG will definitely be sticking around these parts for a good long time. Remind me- was C99 the male in the cross, or the NLxG13?

I have quite a few F1s rat-holed, myself :D ... Mommy was a Joey Weed Cinderella 99 x Northern Lights, and Daddy was a Cinderella 99 x G-13 multiple backcross from Motarebel ... and, I was the water boy :S2:

no, no ... I start my seeds in RapidRooter plugs, in a homemade bubble-cloner ... outstanding for seeds, too ... drop seeds in the RapidRooters (pointed end down), and just plug it in  ... I use plain tapwater (chlorine helps prevent early bacteria growth, theoretically ;)) ... I use ONE DROP of 'Superthrive' per gallon, when cloning ... I don't use it for starting seeds ... when cloning, I give 24 hours of darkness, then an 18/6 schedule of mild, low light, until rooting well (yeah, I know, I do it differently than most) :wtf: ... for seeds, I just set the lamp on 18/6 schedule, let Nature and the bubbler do the rest ...

I just now checked my tapwater pH (haven't checked it in a year, or two :wtf:), I only use it to pop seeds ... anyway, it's a 5.7 today ... seeds seem to pop well, whether 1 yr old, or 5 yrs old, in those RapidRooter plugs ...

nice cloner Reaper, how big are the holes, 2 inchs maybe?

also, do you let the stems dangle or is the bottom of the cutting inside one of those plugs?

the image reaper

on my first lid, I drilled 13 1.25" holes, too BIG, that's why the toothpicks thru the plugs in photo :wtf: ... in my newer lid, I drilled 1" holes, they worked better ... the roots grow thru the plugs, down into the reservoir ... last crop, I vegged 6 plants in that box for over a month, while waiting for a vacancy in my flowering cabinet ... got pretty crowded, lotsa roots grown all together, no biggie ... I snipped them apart with scissors, and trans-planted ...

my Sour Jack is doing VERY well, my Killa Queen is somewhat stunted :wtf: ... I didn't get the roots spread out well, during her transplant, hard to do by yourself ... oh well, shit happens :D ... these are day 48 ...

Damn, that looks nice dude. What nutes are you giving them?

I may just have to borrow your bubble-cloner design. That's just beautiful in its simplicity.

help yourself to the bubbler, I copied it from Opie Yutts  ... I don't feed anything to newborns, and use chlorinated tapwater to help prevent 'pythium wilt', etc. the first several days (I have no idea if the chlorine helps, but it seems logical) ... the cotyldons contain everything the seedling needs for its first two weeks ... two weeks in, I will add a 'weak' dose of Fox Farm 'Grow Big Hydroponic' version, etc ... as an aside: I do NOT use 'Superthrive' for anything, except some occasional cloning (over-rated, over-advertised, swill) :wtf: ...

painretreat, when you're talkin' about 'experts', ya gotta be talkin' to Stinky, not me :D ...
... I think I took after my Mom, who 'fixed' everybody else's 'problem plants' ... she could make a brick sprout flowers ! ... after watching her work miracles all these years, I finally decided to pick her brain: "Mom, what's your secret to healing sick plants ?" ... answer: "no secret, I don't know anything about plants, but I watch the 'plant experts' make their plants sick by always screwing with them ... I just sit them in the windowsill with a few drops of water, and ignore them ... when I look at them again in a few days, they are doing wonderfully !" ... true story, and the basis of my growing theories, 'keep it simple, stupid !' :D ... thx for the compliments, too ... good growing

Anything that's better with garlic is even better with more garlic.

I know what you mean on overthinking plant stuff. Plants don't need us to grow. I mean hell, just look around in the uncivilized places. No one's watering those plants. No one's carefully measuring the pH or nutrients they have.

Plants have been growing for a long time without any help from us so it stands to reason that a lot of the problems our plants would have would be from us treating it like something that can't survive without our direct supervision. It's not an infant.

Think of it like the tiger at the zoo. You've got to give it food and water because you've relocated it somewhere and want it live there reasonably happy, but it's not a helpless creature. Thousands of tigers live their whole lives in the wild without anyone bringing them food or water.

But for the most part we aren't that good at taking care of other living things. We try to treat them too much like a helpless baby. People fuss over their pets, and wind up over-feeding them into obesity.

It's like you said - what many people forget to do for their plants is to leave them the hell alone enough. My plants are my friends, roommates. They've got their lives, I've got mine, and we hang out now and then but I don't intrude on their privacy.
