am i doing this correctly, and where now?

hiya all, ive just started growing, and was wondering if i am doing it correctly, ive got my seeds, and have put them in a pot of soil, the pot is about 2inches wide and about 4inches tall,
one of my seeds has rised to the top, it has a white shoot coming from it, but is now basically laying on the top of the soil. is this right?
and also how much should they be watered? i live in the uk and its summer basically, they are in a greenhouse, i am waiting for them to be about 3inches tall before transferring them to the ground in my garden, i will mix the soil they are already in with the soil from the ground, so they dont get to upset, is this right?
also i water them about once a day, i water them when the soil has turned dry, is this correct?
and also if you could advice me on anything that would be brilliant, thankyou!

start seeds in a seedling starter mix and add some xtra perlite for added areation. if you mix up your own soil make sure theres no nutes in the soil til the plant has gotten around 3-5 sets of true serrated leaves. the plants shouldnt come out of soil and lay on the soil. they should reach for the light. make sure they have a good root system before transplanting to help reduce shock. water when soil drys out. if the soil doesnt dry out suffeciently between waterings it can help cause a higher risk of mold/rotting conditions

that white 'foot' coming out of the seed shell, is the taproot ... it needs to be pointing downwards into the soil ... planting them 'pointed-end' down, under about 1/4" of soil helps this happen ... do not touch that white taproot, or expose it to light, it is very sensitive ... also, keeping the soil too wet, invites Pythium Wilt (damp-off), a seedling-killer ... its a delicate balance between wet/dry, the first couple weeks ... do NOT feed ANY fertilizers for the first 2 weeks ... :smokin:
