View Full Version : Slow Blue to Red Transition?

Let's say I am using four cool lights and one warm for vegging.
Because the sun transitions slowly, it would seem (to this ignorant poster) to be gentler (healthier?) on the plants to switch one blue out for one red every so many weeks, yet the standard here would seem to be to instantly switch to four warm and one cool (or all warm?) simultaneously with the switch to 12/12 lighting.
Anyone ever done a comparison or any experiments in this area?
Separate question. Any folks here use the same light spectrum (say a 4100K) all the way through with no change?

you can certainly phase in your lighting change gradually, if you care to ... however, in my experience, it never made any difference to the plant, and just further extended flowering time ... no advantages there ... :smokin:

I didn't know the sun changed its spectrum around.....weekly or otherwise.
Less than ideal conditions/lighting....less than ideal finish. What's wrong with following YEARS of proven results? Think they're trying to put one over on you??? :D

Nothing is wrong with adopting what is known to work.
However, ALL improvements come about either by accident or by stepping outside tradition and doing something different. (Am not suggesting my question falls into that category - just trying to learn.)

Sorry but it just seems like everyone thinks they need to reinvent the wheel and I sometimes wonder why.......good growing techniques are constantly being improved or updated since there are many growing ganja who want to grow the best/most efficiently or whatever so im pretty darn sure many many things have been tried.....more than once.
To me it seems odd to spend a lot of energy on such things while still trying to get a grasp of the basics since most likely knowing the basics would have answered your question for you. And I DO apologize if that sounds rude....I honestly did not mean it to sound that way but its true and I really don't know how else to put it. So again....I agologize for the rudeness but stand by it.
Growing is about having fun too so if changing one bulb around at a time makes it more enjoyable for you go for it!
Good luck in your future grows.

I believe I killed all of my first batch of sprouts with too intense light too soon (it may have been alkaline tap water). So I am a little 'light shy'. :)

Well thats a different story.......are you using hid lighting? Can you run through the process of what happened? Be as specific as you can if possible.
