i had a thought stimulated from a different post that i wanted feedback on.... i would love to hear what you think about it. here it is:
"God" does not have a name... imo
names are words and words are nothing more than vibrating waves interpreted and used to represent an idea or object to the human mind.
each people group has given a representative set of vibrational patterns (aka a word like Jehovah, Allah, Krishna, etc) to represent their own idea of god. none are the TRUE name of god, but only true to the group whose minds associate that particular vibrational pattern with the CONCEPT of god. there cannot be a true name of god, only a first chronologically speaking in relation to the first spoken language and attempt to "name god."
what does your name tell about you? nothing at all really... some names might tie you to a nationality or ethnicity (Muhamed or Patrick O'Flannigan) but does that describe anything about WHO you are? no... who you are cannot be encapsulated in a single word like a name normally is. I am Joe. The word "Joe" cannot describe a complex conscious being. does your name give me a clear picture of who you are?
what purpose would a name for god serve? nobody would have been around to give that name so it would have to be a name that the creator chose personally. is any finite human language even capable of beginning to describe the creator of all?
it is the essence of god that matters, no matter what you call our supreme creator and source of all that is and is not. names are semantics and it is such semantics that divide humanities effort to find the answers to the mysteries of this physical existence...
who am i? what is my purpose?
who is "god"?
