CFL on seedlings

I was considering putting a CFL light over my seedlings at night, just to maximize the amount of light they are receiving. Problem is, it's just a cheapo 23w CFL, and it didn't specify how many kelvins. It is, however, the orangey/warm light, so... 6500k range maybe?

Is this a good idea or would it stress out the plants? I should probably mention that this will be an outdoor grow once I am in the clear with mother nature...;)

That would be sufficient. I have my sprouts under a 48' 5000k Vegging light, and they are loving it. Just make sure the light is about 1-2 inches away from the sprout early on to prevent Stretching.

I personally like to give plants a dark period (18/6 vs 24/0) In my own experiences I think the plants grow better and are less stressed.

I'm using CFL's at the moment, and the 26w orange tinted "Soft White" or "Warm White" bulbs are rated 2700k and emit 1700 lumens. They are GE, so manufacturer specifications will vary. People recommend using both spectrums for all stages of growth, but since you are going outside soon... that should be cool for a seedling. But yeah, my orange-ish 26w CFL's are 2700k and 1700 lumens. Good luck. Happy gardening :thumbsup:
