View Full Version : After Harvest: one more light period?

A friend of mine suggested that at harvest time, I cut the plants down, then leave them in for one more 12 hour light period.

I have never heard of this and was looking to hear what others have to say, yay or nay?

I did some searching and this is what i've found around the board:

1.) light breaks down THC...therefore an extra light period after cutting them down would actually decrease potency, that's why they are dried and cured in darkness.

2.) some actually suggest total darkness for anywhere between 24 and 36 hours before harvest.

I guess that's pretty much all I've found.

can anyone confirm or deny any of this?

thanks,
Skeet

I have heard putting them in the dark for 24-48 hours before cutting them down, but I've never heard of anyone putting plants that are already cut down in a light period. It don't see what purpose it would serve to leave them in an extra light period after cutting them down.

Makes no sense to me. I also don't agree with the 24 to 48 hours of darkness before cutting. Granted the plant does a lot at night, but growing occurs in the presence of light so I believe you would give up any bud development that would occur without extra darkness. I'd rather let them continue to grow for those 2 days. No one has yet to my knowledge proven that extra darkness helps. I think it's BS.

my thoughts exactly. this post was more to humor my friend than anything. It was complete hearsay from a 'grower' who doesn't even care enough to check pH or flower with a HPS. A completely unfounded claim and i didn't even want to waste board member's time.

thanks again guys and gals.

Skeet.
